Drawing hair is really fun! It's kinda like doing really skinny curved zigzags.I like doing long hair the most. Its still kind of hard for me to do short hair because i cant seem to get the head shape right.

I usually make a conglomeration of wispy lines, using a more heavy amount of these lines where I expect the light won't be shining.

I usuaully thought that some artists use simple hairstyle such as bangs, then add in more details later on to make small hair strands.

O_o http://www.cablenet.ne.jp/%7ejapanime/tutorial/tutorial.html It was pretty useful to some extent. I think the best way would be to outline where you're going to draw and fill it in later.

Also, don't you mean Oh My Goddess?

Here's my tip to you Crimson:
Go to www.portalgraphics.net/en and download Open Canvas. After you do that, go back to the portalgraphics site and look for an event file that has hair you like in it. Watch the event file and learn second hand. I find it's the easiest way to learn how to draw anything. :3

Yeah I was trying to remember if it was Ah or Oh. But I thought Ah sounded more sensible.

Yes, of course. Open Canvas > Gimp as an illustration tool. It also has the even files, which are amazing to learn from. :3

When drawing anime hair it's okay to go over the eyes, for a realistic picture too much hair in the face can cause the person to look emo.
Another important thing is the shape of the the head, remember that hair can be poofy but sometimes too much can make the head itself look lopsided or strangely shaped like an alien from star trek~

Yeah I know that part, it's just the small detailed strands of hair that the pros use. That's what I'm having difficulty with.

Oh yea, Dead Panda, now that I think about it... How is thinking like a palm tree help?

Yeah, I don't think thinking of palm trees will help you. :heh:
Think in clumps and work more and more detailed. Kind of like painting. :3
Or exactly like painting if you're painting the hair. Hahahah.

I'm implying to the hair type as the image below from death note. I've been trying to learn how to make small strands of hair bundled together to look like actual hair.

instead of drawing strand by strand start off with the shape, then slowly from the top layers draw to the bottom, and shade according to the light.
I think copying pictures specially for hair isn't the smartest thing, you should let your pen or pencil go to where you think the strands should be~

I tried that, and it only wakes the hair a mess.

Well I think copying pictures is a good way to get the idea for the logic behind the strokes you decide to make, but after some practice, I'd say it's good to go off on your own and experiment yourself to see what you like. You'll get it if you practice enough :)

yea that's what I've been thinking. I'm one of those type of people that sometimes don't get a clear picture in mind.
