Does anyone have a key and/or mode that they like?
My friend likes Mixolydian.
I personally prefer Locrian D with Aeolian D (D Minor) taking close second. I also despise Ionian (Major).

I don't really know any "modes" other than the Pentatonic Scale, so I can't give a mode, but my favourite key for Piano is C Minor, and probably D Minor for an orchestra/band.

Medieval Modes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_mode . Just follow the half/whole step formula for each, and you'll get it ;) .

Well, I'm starting to use modes... a bit.

:P But I really wish I could develop Perfect Pitch. Why? Well, when I compose on a Piano/Keyboard, without intending to, I compose in the really, really weird key of Ab Minor (7 flats?- which, surprisingly, is easy for me to do on a Keyboard) @_@ . If I just compose on the computer, A Minor is the easiest.

OFFTOPIC- Which reminds me, after all these years (1, haha) that I believed I had perfect pitch, I'm having a lot of doubts that I actually have it, I think I have more of a really good Relative Pitch. :heh:

Generally, A minor (Aeolian A) and C Major (Ionian C) are usually the easiest for most people since they have no sharps or flats apart from any accidentals. Here are the modes with the starting note if the scale is to have all natural notes:

Ionian (Major) (C)
Dorian (D)
Lydian (E)
Phyrgian (F)
Mixolydian (G)
Aeolian (Minor) (A)
Locrian (B)

I might be off on the starting note or the name, but the idea is still easy to get.

I prefer aeolian C and dorian E, myself. Dorian E is used in a lot of Irish fiddle music. :)
