What do you think about the military and/or someone joining? I'm just curious...

I...would never join the military. I hear it can be quite fun though, and an enriching experience. I wouldn't join during wartime though; dying sucks. = \

I think it would be fun. I would only join if I was to get to blow things up.

To further this point: You're a moron. That's a murder's mindset when going into the military.

As to joining the military, if you feel you want to, go ahead. Personally, I've seen too much done to my cousin to actually consider the thought of joining myself (the lies they tell you when you're in a recruiting session is utterly amazing); but if you want to, by all means, be proud and patriotic.

I wouldn't join. I mean, for one thing, it's dangerous, and it puts your life in peril. I may be coward, but hey, I got a brain. Plus, I'm not even patriotic.

As for people who want to join, know that you can very well die (or be injured), and it almost always affects people psychologically (sometimes it's very subtle, but the mark remains). Also, know that it can be seen as selfish towards your loved ones to put your life on the line. So long as you know the risks - hey, go ahead.

Coward or too smart to be roped in by the Armed Forces lies, I'll let you decide, although with your intelligence I still can't fully trust you to that.

Let's face it, if you are dumb enough to actually get into that, then maybe it would be for the better. If you can surpass that thing caring about human lives thing, then you would have no problem killing someone. We may have to give you the death sentence when you start trying it in Texas, but until then, go ahead. Really.

And in case no one noticed, I wouldn't. -_-

I joined back in September, and leave for basic in June after I graduate. My MOS is 98X, linguist. The military is someting that I've always thought of for my chance to get out of this town and make a life for myself. I have several reasons but I think the main reasons is that it will give me a chance for something better than Sonic Drive In after high school and a chance to just get away from all the troubles in my town. I don't want to screw up my life anymore than I already have just because I was stupid enough to fall in love.

And no offence cody/mccollaum but the only reason you said you would join is because you know me from school. You just wanted to get my attention. Please stop making an ass of yourself...

In my opinion, war is all about politics. Politics is what causes war...

I've had cadet training. Was fun shooting real guns in target practice. There's a lot of stuff you need to learn though and its pretty physically demanding. I wouldn't join the army though as a job as you move about too much depending on where they station you and the obvious threat of death.

The thing with joining the military is if you're interested in the field but you have a large fear of dying, you can still join without facing those threats directly. I mean sure everyone has a chance of dying, but my friend has recently graduated highschool and is moving into the field of computer tech, where he hopes to join the military and get into the computer parts of it. Military isn't all about killing each other and taking orders while out on the field, I mean just like everything else, it has people behind the scenes helping those who are out in the open.

I personally am too afraid to get into the field because I have problems with being yelled at ><. Also, the pressure given is hard for me to cope with, but if i had the courage to actaully face every fear I have, I would definitely enlist, for even though this war may be " a waste", being in the military itself always has its benefits. A couple of my friends are leaving for the military this year (two already in training and one at the US Embassy in Italy) and I am definitely going to miss them, but at the same time I admire them for going through all that training through their own will when they could just as easily be staying at their college dorms and playing games with me.

I've been approached by recruiters so many times, and yea, I've heard the lies they give. It's a little disappointing how they tend to do that to get supporters >< Have they always been that way, or is it just because of the growing distaste of the war?

Only reason I'd join is because of a draft most likely. I wouldn't hate going to it, but I would be in the mindset of a patriotic soldier serving his country.

But this probably wont happen, since I'm gonna go to college as soon as I can. :heh:

I'm the only son of my family, so they won't come at me unless they institute the draft, so I'm thankful to be the only son. It helps me... appreciate things in life a little better. Besides, even if that happens, I have an ace up my sleeve even if they do institute the draft, so no worries either way.

^Is your ace "moving to Canada"?
That'd be mine. X3
Plus I'm flatfooted and have asthma. I hear that helps too...

^Oh, nevermind. I have two aces then... First off, I'm bi (which I can easily play off as full blown gay) and if all else fails, I'm moving to Canada!

The ignorance of some people here just amazes me.
First off, joining the military does NOT mean you are going to fight and kill people.

The military has four branches: Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force. At our current war, the only way you are going to personally kill some one, is if you are in the army or marines (or if you are a navy pilot). And as someone stated earlier, you can go into many different areas of the military. I gaurentee you, (unless you are a pilot) if you join the airforce, you will NEVER set foot in enemy land. My dad has been in the Air Force for nearly 30 years and he never once ever had to go fight.

So really guys, if a draft ever comes, just volunteer into the air force and you'll be fine.

I have a heart condition (pulmonary valve Stenosis for the medical school people) so even if I wanted to, they wouldn't let me in. The main thing I hate is when people say "if you don't support the war, you don't support the troops". The troops and the war are two different things, and it's possible to say you support one but not the other. This is mostly a US problem, what with liberals and conservatives and all. I'm independent. However, if you want to go and join, go ahead. no one is stopping you. I'll support you, unless you don't want me to. Just don't brag about how great the military is, because most people have their minds made up and you won't be able to sway them at all. And it get annoying for people who can't join either way.

I can't stand people saying the military is so bad or that it's great, so if that becomes the topic of this thread, then don't expect me to post here often.

i agree! i mean, the whole point of joining is to serve for your country, isn't it? it's not all about blowing up things or killing people. if that's all you want to do, then i suggest playing Battlefield 2 to get your kicks.
