Well... Pretty much anything I guess... It depends why I'm listening, where I am and in which mood I'm in..

I like music from all periods, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Twentieth Century, though I have a preference for the impressionists like Debussy.

Outside of classical, I enjoy film music very much and some anime soundtracks are nice as well. I don't listen to much popular music though. Except for when I find an anime song that I particularly enjoy.

classical- anything from late beethoven onwards

non classical- anything where they actually play their instruments rather than all this backing track shite and computerised sounds

I listen to all kinds of music incept maybe rap. I am not a big fan of rap unless it is pop oriented. In other words artist and groups like Black Eyed Peas or Outkast. Mainly they sometimes refer it as hip hop but I find it more of a subculture then a music genre.

Anyway I listen to everything from Classical music to Heavy Metal or Power Metal. I love Power Metal especially artist like Blind Guardian or Rhapsody of Fire. I also like Viking Metal, Melodic Black Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Black Metal, Death Metal, and pretty much all Metal incept I HATE Numetal. Can't seem to get into that genre.

I also like Goth Rock, Punk Rock, Psychobilly, Gothabilly, Rockabilly, Dance, Techno, Trance, EBM, Future Pop, Alternative Rock, Bubblegum Pop, Industrial, and so on.

I am not entirely picky but I can be harsh and a bit of an elitist.

I'll listen to anything as long as they can play their instruments well, whether it be voice, rock, jazz, or even some hip hop that actually involves instruments.

That pretty much leaves rhythm-synth led stuff that I don't like. That stuff takes absolutely no talent.

Well, I like to listen to the classical songs that are remixed on games like DDR, video game music, and j-pop. I hate the singers in this country, I don't like their music at all. :P

Hmm... it's not that I can't stand jazz, but sometimes it's too... what's the word? Stoned? ;)
But yeah, if you ask me I have pretty weird music tastes. I like things that are really annoying (Hamster dance! ^_^) when I'm feeling goofy, or metal&hardrock whenever I'm feeling sullen, or soul music when I'm calm, or various piano pieces whenever I'm in a piano mood... arabian music when I feel like belly-dancing ^.^, Evanescence when I'm feeling emo, j-pop when I feel like listening to happy-go-lucky fanatics (An Cafe ftw!), Visual Kei artists... everything. I guess it goes with the mood, really. Right now I can't stand Linkin Park but tomorrow I might be plugged up to my eyebrows with them. *shrugs* Film music can be cool, especially if said film happens to be called A Nightmare Before Christmas... :)

Hi Noir! XP

*checks iPod*

I like classical music (especially Baroque (especially Vivaldi (especially Le Quattro Stagioni/The Four Seasons))), some film scores (STAR WARS! I have all the soundtracks except episodes II and V which is a shame because episode two had great music and episode five has Darth Vader's theme), J-Pop(Utada Hikaru in particular, she's in my avatar), J-Rock (yayness!), anime music (Gundam SEED, .hack, Japanese Sailor Moon, and various other anime songs I can find from series that I've never seen before and that will usually get me to watch the series), rock in general (songs with really cool guitar solos!), techno (a lot of which is DDR music), Final Fantasy music (Estuans Interis Ira Vehemiti SEPHIROTH!!! dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun SEPHIROTH!!! and a lot of other songs), Kingdom Hearts music (Hikari got me into Utada Hikaru), video game music in general (Sonic the Hedgehog music is good.......), annoying game show themes (if you listen to nothing but the Match Game theme for a day, you will go insane), totally random songs (NUMA NUMA SONG!)...yeah, that's all I can think of right now.

In my opinion, country is the lowest form of music (I don't consider rap to be music, because it's just people talking in rythym about hoes and guns and bling and crap like that)

"Rap music is actually just poetry. Of course, it's kind of hard to find something that rhymes with "hoe"...

I love Jazz music first and foremost. Follow by Rock and Hip-hop/Rap. J-pop/J-rock, I also love, and some Pop artist, but I don't really like Pop that much. Marching music is cool too. And Certain classicals style, from different eras.

I especially love Anime and Video Game music, too!

Yay for music stereotypes!!!

I like all music. I have to stand up for old skool rap though because it wasn't about "hoes and guns and bling and crap like that". I don't listen to rap that plays now because it is all "hoes and guns and bling and crap like that". Rap does however show interesting rythyms that could be incorporated into other genres.

*Cough*

It's music theory, and common sense, proves that rap isn't music; and don't ever get me started on why.

albinoechidna
August 21st, 2007, 01:15 am
Music theory is constantly changed, the musicians I most respect are those who have stepped out of the bonds of what people would call theory at the time. If people stuck to the "rules" of theory, I'm sure there would probobly not be any extended chords, dissonance, or any other harmonies for that matter when you think about it. Music has changed so much ever since man first beat on a drum. Look throughout the history of music and you will see many respected people who have changed the rules of theory.

As for common sense. It was common sense that made people think the earth was flat...

*Cough* When I say music theory, I didn't mean 100% by the book, sir; and I wouldn't think a modern musician wouldn't get that either-wow.

My favourite Composers consist of Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy and Rachmaninoff, so I think I know EXACTLY what I am talking about when it comes to "breaking away from the rules to create anew."

But then there is Rap. What's so "new" and "breathtaking" about it to be called a good rebellion of the "old ways?" There isn't. All it is are s****y rhymes (sp?) and (in rare cases) chords and riffs that are so worn, they have arthritis.

I won't even answer your PM, since your obviously stupid; I know you know better.

I wasn't calling it a "good" rebellion of the old ways. Besides, in my original message, I was not talking about rap as it is today. If I was talking about rap today, I would totally agree with you. Seeing as how it is mostly a group of samplings of other songs. But you can't bundle all music considered rap under the same bias.

Sorry if I seemed stupid about the "100% by the book" aspect, but I have this thing against extremely strict theorists, who I don't think should be considered musicians.
