Hi guys, I'm new here. I have been lurking for a while and finally decided to post a topic of my own. To start it of here is a work in progress, I know it isn't that good but I'm a real n00b when it comes to composing. I won't show you anything older than this piece simply because they suck even more haha :heh:
C&C please!

If I were you, I'd try to bring out the melody a bit more - I couldn't really tell what it was at times.

I'm assuming (s)he uses Finale Notepad, so (s)he can't control it.
There was something with the rhythm that didn't flow well.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes, I started this piece with Notepad but I will finish it with Finale 2007 :)
I will try to bring out the melody more and see what I can do with the rhythm.

Ah, my bad. Maybe another possibility would be to consider having a less dense accompaniment so as not to bury it.

That's true, but I'm working in Finale 2007 now so I can just make it so that the melody is f or something while the accompaniment is p or something... I don't know, any suggestions?

not bad so far...the melody actually has this haunting feel to it...but the bass line could be better
i got a stupid question...how do you get those red notes? i've had finale for about a week and i've seen other people with red notes in their compositions, so i was wondering how you get them...
and btw, about those red notes...the red sixteenth notes look kinda hard to play...for me at least...idk about the more experienced pianists out there...

The red notes is the second voice and well, to acces them you simply click on the little button down to the left marked 2 :) There are four of them so you can add a lot of voices.
Yeah, I was thinking about those sixteenth notes... I know I can't play them, so I'll see what I can do about that.
Thanks, I like the melody too :D
About the bassline, what's the boring part, the small octave chord progression, or the well eighthnote octave walk :) Maybe both?

I would try writing a MUCH simplier piece to "get" better at composing. An example of simple is Mozart pieces.

Yeah maybe you're right. I might lay this piece aside for a while and try write a piece that's a bit more simple.
