I apoligize if this isn't in the right section!

Um, my music teacher set us a task to do. Which is, to compose a 16 bar composition in b minor using chords 1,4 and 5.

She said something about passing notes (which i kinda understand...)

Anyways, i was wondering if anyone could HELP me, not do the task for me. That's all im asking for! HELP.

Like...as sample of a bar using passing notes with chord 1 or something.

Thanks a lot! =)

OK, can you only do passing tones, or can you do other non-harmonic tones as well (such as suspensions, apoggiatura, changing tones, neighbor tones, etc.)?

passing notes are basically just notes that help the music move into the next chord without it just being boring block chords

what i would do is find a decent chord sequence using the set chords then decorate it with other notes (as long as they fit with the harmony)

so could u do the b note to d note and then f sharp note, then back down to d note and then c sharp note? (sorry if that sounds really confusing!) then do you have to move back down to the b note?

wat exactly is a passing note? i need an easy and simple explanation

im really sorry that i sound so stupid! ><"

^Check here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonchord_tone). From what I've heard, it can't be done if it's not seen visually.

Are you allowed to use 7ths chords? That gives you some extra leeway in chordal tones in the melody, though they would need to resolve down in most cases.

Yeah, unless it's a common tone. Passing tones are basically when you have just chord tones in the same part that are a third apart, and you add the note in between as a passing tone, usually as an eighth note. Make any sense?
