Why fear something such as death? ive never understood how anyone could fear such a fundamental part of life, you cant have the life we experience without death.

I dont know if i have any fears as such. i disslike going into hospital, but i dont fear it.

Im most affriad not being able to care for myself... i couldnt cope being total dependant on another

There's nothing to fear but fear itself (I think a dwarf said that in a film or game. Might of been from dynasty warriors)
It's true though. Mind over matter can stop fear.

Actually, it was an American president. Roosevelt, I think. *goes to check*

Edit:
Yes, I was right. [Franklin Delano] Roosevelt's first inaugural speech:
"..the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Oh God, was that a joke? If it wasn't, I hope you're not American, or our schools are failing hardcore these days. :heh:

When it's dark and nobody's around, I fear that I may lead a worthless, depressing, or otherwise bad life. D:

But then the sun comes up, and I'm fine again. Heheheh. ^_^

I'm afraid of eternal boredom...

I also have an irrational fear of deep water. I can swim and dive in 12-13 ft (around 4 meters to you non-americans)(never tried anything past that), but I have dreams of being at swimming pools with around 100 ft(33 meters) of water. I actually love the water, but it's those dreams.

Don't worry. I'm English. It was also used on the ps2 game dynasty warriors 4.
The spiders native to England cannot kill humans, also very few snakes are venomous. Pigeons scare more people than spiders do, over here.

Lol. This thread takes me back to the good old days - Dessie made this topic when we first joined, nearly 3 years ago. Therefore, I think a duplicate thread can be forgiven cos I can't be bothered digging through the archives for the old one.

Anyway, I fear spiders, and I have fear of being in the dark outdoors - I can't see in the dark and not being able to see anything sends me into a panic.

I'm claustrophobic (that says alot, i guess) and I have this irrational fear of spiders, since there aren't eny dangerous ones here (though there are two types of spiders, that's really small I can handle without screaming, fainting or crying). And heighs... I can't even stand on a chair without almost freaking out... and... and balls, and to be by myself in more than two hours... I guess I won't say anything more, since I think i got some more fears that just stupid (all of these I written are, even the claustrophobia...)
I so hate it, al those fears... especially the claustrophobia, since I can't take the lift, though there are some places I can go without panicing (like the lift in the house our apartment is in and some bigger ones when i'm with my mother or older sister, though I'm still very afraid)

I'm afraid of eternity, (not really death, but what may come after it,) I sometimes have dreams of just being alone on Earth forever, and I just wake up and have the need to see another human, (which reveals my other fear of being completely alone.) My other biggest fear would be to lose my knowledge, or ability to learn, or to get some disease (like Alzheimer's) that makes me slowly forget things until the day I die. I really hope there's a cure for that before I get old.

Elwe
June 5th, 2007, 08:40 am
I'm pretty afraid of getting scared. If some guy were to murder me, I'd be more afraid of seeing him pop up out of nowhere in a dark alley than the actual "Hey, I'm gonna die!" part. I guess my fear of fear also leads to a fear of windows at night. Eeekk! So I try to avoid them, lest I end up seeing someone. =[

Aside from that, I agree with Murder's fear of eternity as well. I always get this recurring image of a dirt field and random dead trees. Scattered on the cold, gray ground are coffins--illuminated by bright moonlight--protruding from the earth with their lids all lopsided and whatnot. And then there's myself, standing alone under that cold, white moon and an endless black sky. O.o Makes me want to watch some ARTHUR. XD

Telephobia. Yep. I'm afraid to use the phone so much. It rings and it's like someone's killing me. I can't call anyone unless I know them VERY well. (usually only family. Not even some family.).
I fear death also. I'm just afraid of staying in one place forever, and ever, and ever, and ever... and no way of ever getting out. EVER. That scares the shit out of me. I don't even like thinking about it. >_<

I'm acrophobic, plus I'm kinda scared of losing my best friends. For movies, if I know a scary part is coming but the rest of the movie is good, I just get up to get a drink or something and come back when it's over. I see no reason to fear eternity, really. Sry, I'm randomly jumping from one thing to another.

I forgot to mention my autophobia, didn't I? I usually can't stand being alone more than 1 hours before starting to feel a bit panic... It's really annoying because i don't want to tell people around me about it, since I don't want to burden them. Though one of my friends tend to get annoyed when I'm following around when she's about to leave me in an empty corridor or something...
And I'm really afraid of sharp things. It's because my brother accidentaly threw a knife that hit my head with the part you usually hold the knife with... and that's just one of many things he has accidentally thrown at me. At first i was only afraid of him holding sharp things, then I realised it could happen someone else could happen to trow them at me and got scared of any sharp thing that was being held or could fall so it could hurt me and then I got scared of all sharp things, since i got older and needed to start preparing my own food and cut myself... it's really annoying since I always need to ask other people to cut things to me because I'm too afraid to do it myself.

... it's really annoying since I always need to ask other people to cut things to me because I'm too afraid to do it myself.

Same here ... heh ... when I started reading this thread, I got scared ('cuz I'm all alone in my basement)and ran STRAIGHT upstairs. I hate being alone ... it's ... scary. I have really irrational fears. Like ... being alone for a long period of time. Or zombies ... and monsters ... :heh: They're scary to think about! And I have the same fears as Elwe ... being alone by a window ... that scares the hell out of me. Like my little sister had a dream that this guy cut off a handicap's head, and she found his body by her window ... *shudders*. Now I'm afraid someone/thing is behind me, but I'm too afraid to check ... 'cuz I'm all alone ...
I feel a little bit better, though, because I have a movie on ... and I don't feel SO alone ... :heh:
I also get scared around smokers. They're so creepy and greasey looking ... and ... yuck! I feel like everytime they see me, they think dirty thoughts about me.
lol ... and last night I was REALLY jumpy. Like, I was brushing my teeth, and our bathroom door closes on it's own if you don't stop it, and I had just opened it, and it touched me and I freaked out. And then I got my tooth brush out and my brother appeared at the doorway my brother appeared and I gasped like crazy. He looked at me and then left. XD
I hate being somewhere, like in a basement or upstairs, and then hearing noises above or below you ... because I don't know what they are. It freaks me out.
And I can't sleep alone very well. I either have to have another body in my bed, be it my dog or my sister. But if I don't, I can't sleep for HOURS. It sucks ... because none of my family wants to sleep with me, and when I'm at my dad's, we don't have a dog ...
And I do not cope well with scary movies. I RARELY watch them because when I do, I get scared out of my mind for days, even weeks. :( I wish someone was with me right now 'cuz I'm scared!

I have two teddy bears I have in my bed. A small one that's really old (I got it when I was 3 so when my autophobia started i had it... yes, I still remeber a life with out the fear of sharp things like knifes, autophobia and claustrophobia, though i can't remeber when or why i got auto- and claustrophobia...) and a bigger one. If I at least don't the small one I can't sleep at all, since I'm really afraid... Sometimes I go to my mother and ask her if it's alright if I sleep in her bed with her (I'm actually 17 in the beginning of august... I'm like a child :heh: ) because I'm afraid of being alone. But a teddy helps a bit... At least it's better than nothing... I hate when I overnight at someone elses place because we studied too long or anything since I don't have my teddybear  But i can't ask my friends to sleep in the same bed as me... They wouldn't understand I'm autophobic, I'm sure x_x

I'm actually mortified of roaches. I mean, normally people would be afraid of it, grossed out by it, or something along those lines. But I actually FEAR them. The roaches in Hawaii are pretty huge, especially in the valley areas (where I live), not to mention they FLY. I scream, cry, cower, and can't rest until I see it dead. Literally. I don't sleep unless it's dead.

Some might say that's pretty irrational because roaches don't really harm you or anything... most of them don't bite, they're not poisonous, etc. etc. But they're just so freaking creepy... <.<

Other than that... I fear inadequacy, isolation, and the inevitable death, I suppose. Although I'm more afraid of the pain of dying rather than death itself.

I don't see how anyone can be afraid of water, unless you can't swim. Though, you can always fix this problem by taking swimming classes. Spiders and snakes are feared because they're unknown factors (i.e. too many legs, no legs, etc.) Unless they're poisonous, there is nothing to worry about. Also, HOW CAN ANYONE FEAR A FRICKIN' NUMBER!? It's a number, fer Chrissakes, that's like being afraid of 11 because that's the day September 11th happened on. Numbers are used for math, not telling when the world is going to end. If you fear numbers because it reminds you of the math class in eight grade where your moustached chick teacher barely passed you, that's fine. But not because of someone alluding to it in a book. (i.e. Bible)
Ah... Rant over.

Driving over a bridge terrify me a lot too, for one I feel that the car is going to swerve over the edge, and then theres no where to look that can make it look like I'm on land. Driving up 101 is freaky because theres cliffs [i hate driving on cliffs a lot] and at the bottom is just huge waves and the ocean.

Well thats if I want to do it if I ever were to be swad by Satan. Yes, I could but I don't plan on going back to my sinful ways. I do intend to stay a christian for the rest of my life, but i would fear ever drifting away from God and then to never be brought back to Him. Thats my fear.

I think my fear for spiders got worse in Finland... i'm even afraid of those i wasn't now... @_@ There were spiders everywhere at grandmothers house... I even had one beside my matress, though I didn't know it until the night before the last... I was scaring an ant who had thought it could come in my bed by poking on the floor near it so it ran away, when it suddenly stopped near the heater and the this huuuuge (okay... I was at most 7 mm, but it felt really big) spider came down from nowhere (behind the heater) and started to spin the ant in the net... I moved the matress in an instant and when I looked again, the spider was gone... and the ant... it was really scary... So now I've seen to much of spiders for a liftime...

I have the fear of being unintentionally annoying. It also scares me to think that it's so simple and easy to lie. Simply because some questions will get you the same answer regardless of the person's opinion. For example, I may ask someone: "Do you really care about what I say?" A true friend will say "Yes," but so will a fake one.

Fear huh?
hmm dont got too many
lesseee
1. bugs
2. getting old
3. asking people out

hmm not afraid of death cuz ive seen people die, peacefully and violently... ive seen too much death...
You're not afraid of death because you've seen "too much death," yet you're afraid of bugs and getting old? Do you live in a place with no bugs or old people or something? I've seen my share of dead people, but I've definitely seen more bugs and old people.

ahhhh children.... Age is of only a matter of which man created, you may still remain a child throughout your life. It is only a matter of how you act. Though at times, it is necessary to be of age and tend to important adult matters.

What I fear is myself, I fear that I may drift too deep into darkness and inflict others with pain and sadness. Of which I have done many times, and wish not to do again. I care not of what should happen to me, for my life is of no value, As I have vowed "I suffer to server others" I shall live to protect those of whom I care for, and of myself there is none left but a mutilited body, and a corrupt soul. And whatever left of that soul I put to use to help others, for their cause comes before mine.I fear not of death, If death should arrive I will embrace it, for I would be happy to exuent this corrupt society.

Eheh sorry for the speech, just felt it had to be that way. And no I'm not going to commit suicide, I'm a christian so I won't do it. But it is true, I will live the length of my life to aide others.

As for the people with fear of spiders... I saw on tv a documentary about a spider in Brazil that is as big as a kitten and is as strong a bull. The australian guy who was explaining got a steel rod, and poked the spider, then the spider freakin grabbed the thing with its FANGS and the dude had a huge struggle getting the rod back. Heheheh thats kinda funny to me, o and beware of black widows people, they like dark places......

Yeah, come say that to me again in 80 years, when your knees no longer bend, you can't sleep at night because of incredible back pain, you can no longer learn because of Alzheimer's, and you can't get too excited, because the breathing tubes keeping you alive can't take the stress.

If you're Christian, how can you say your life has no value? Didn't you learn that everyone has infinite value in God's eyes? Are you doubting God's wisdom because of his opinion of you? And why would you vow to suffer to serve others? Why not just serve them with a smile? And you shall 'live to protect who you care for?' Doesn't God want you to love yourself as well as others? After all, God loves you just as much as he loves everyone else. And why would you embrace death? God wants you to live! Forever!~

Heheh, that was my Christian reasoning. If I were talking to another Agnostic, I'd have just said "Cheer up jackass, there's no reason to care about anybody but yourself! You're awesome! Care about other people only to the extent that it'll make you happy!" XD

I think I've already mentioned this before in this thread, but I'm afraid of leading an uneventful, boring life. Eg, being a loser who never gets anything done, and keeps on wishing that he'd done things differently earlier in life. Those kinds of people depress me so much! X3

no i just hate the fact that you get old

lol, I know how you feel. Being old must suck. I'm praying desperately for robot bodies/hdd brains. Please universe, don't let me become old and disgusting like so many men have become! D':

Being physically fit does not resemble the characteristics of being young. For it is the mental mind of which I was talking of. Those of whom still act as if they were still merely a teenager still do. Such as a senior having a party. Which is very common among elderly. Or trying to get into the modern teenage style.
----------------------------------------

I may be christian but not all christians and if not, all of them thoruoghly follow the rules of God, and abide by his wishes. All trail off somone in their life for they are human and as I have said sooo many times before as well as others, no man is perfect. Some may follow God's road, but at times they must have independance as to feel they have freedom to think as they wish. I mean, God doesn't wish for us to be so monochrome and be like robots. And I know that just throwing my life away is just plain stupid, but if you were to live a life such as mine you would understand. And I do find pride and happiness whenever I help others. That is what keeps me so lively.

Fear.

What do I fear?

I'm scared of the dark. don't ask me why, I don't know. But every time I'm alone in the dark, my heart starts pumping like I'm running a marathon.

My second fear is of clowns. The way they have that fake smile painted on their faces. The way they try so hard to make people laugh. It scares me.

I don't see why people think that's scary, is it because of that "It" Movie? I watched it again and I laughed my ass, off I was scared when I was little but it's like a comedy to me now. Whenver I see a clown I feel annoyed....

Maybe people have clownphobia?

I have an extreme fear of needles, sharp objects, blood, pain, doctors, and hospitals. Actually, I fear everything about medicine and the body in general. Whenever I have a bruise or even get my hair cut, I start freaking out, and I've never been able to go to a hospital or vet office without fainting. Surprisingly, I don't fear death at all....except maybe a death by lethal injection....but that's just the needle part, not the death part. I really wish I could get over my irrational fears, but it's hard to face them when you're passed out!
