I've been getting into a lot of ancestory and into my heritage lately; I am getting really curious of the understanding of my old culture, just to achieve a really good understanding of who I am.

It's a fun subject to talk about, and share- so I came up with the idea to make it a thread! Hope you have fun with it.

--

Me, I learned recently that I have a bunch of Prussian ancestors who mainly dominated most of Europe in the 1000s. Mainly gave birth to German cultures, and many other Euro.

Also, I have a lot of Serbian and Russian (Eastern Euro) influence on my looks and genetic characteristics ie. dark brown hair, 'striking' brown eyes and also (with the hair again) extremely thick hair as well.

I'm still researching a lot lately, and I DO know more than I posted here, but it's too much to say at this moment. ^_^

Cambodian-Chinese, so no Islamic blood in me.

My brother says that my family is of the natives, I say that were from the Indians that sailed to S.E. Asia.

My great-grandpa was from china : ]?

Hey Hubby, good idea for a thread!

I'm Italian/English/Swedish, but I look like my mom (who's Italian), so I have dark features and curly/wavy dark brown hair.

My dad's great-great-grandparents were immigrants from Sweden and some of my mom's English ancestors came over to America on the Mayflower. I don't know too much about my Italian ancestors, although my great-grandfather could barely speak English...but he died when I was really little.

Im british, we've only just started tracing our family history in the last year.
Apparently we have french aristocracy in our history. But the relative in question ran off with the stable boy We are still trying to find out her familes name. As for the other half it apears to be british so far.

As far as I know, my great-grandparents (both sides of family) came from a little island off the coast of Hong Kong. So basically, we're all completely Chinese. Not sure about great-great grandparents, etc. They probably lived there too, or just in Hong Kong, I guess.

My grandad tried to trace the family history. On my dads side it can only be traced for a few hundred years and it's all British blood.

First, you could use your families last name. Your moms maiden name, your grandma's maiden name and so forth, to see where all the links go to.

You could, though flimsy, see where your family lived, where people in that area came from and so forth [north Cambodians were predominantly from the more Chinese area's, S.E. Cambodians have islamic blood]

About... 5 generations back I think it was, I have scottish blood on my dad's side. Other than that, it's English alllllll the way (or as far as we've traced, which is about 300 years on one side of the family and not much on the other)

as far as i know i am a full blooded cuban on both sides of my family. my great-great-grandmothers (on both sides) were alive when i was born and my family knows most of our history by memory. if i try hard enough i might find that my family mixed with something else but not the ones that resulted in me and my brother. so of course i have the darker characteristics such as slightly tanned skin, dark hair and dark eyes.

I don't know alot about my father's side, but he and his parents are from finnland... That's as far as I can trace at that side...

My mother's ancestors (16th centuary) live in a small village called Teg, which now is a part of the city mom moved to from finnland about 30 years ago and where my family and I are living. She didn't know that before she started to research her family, which was just a few years ago. Isn't that a coincidence?
And some politicians' (both swedish and finnish) ancestor are our ancestors... :heh: No wonder mom's a politician :P
And some of the people I was in first to sixth grade with are tha same, their ancestors are our ancestors :heh:
It's a small world we're living in (at least scandinavia's really small, since it's not a big chance moving to almost at the exact same place where you're ancestors actually lived without knowing.)

I know alot more, but I had a hard time explaining that in english, so... :heh:

No offense, but theres a lot of families who have stories of being related to people on the mayflower, and not just people the famous ones. I'm not saying you aren't, but I'm just saying a lot of people say they are.

But generations grow big. You would be surprised to see how many current day white folks are related to the real Pocahontas.

Apparently there was a big affair in my family (Oh the drama is heatin' up!). I have an ancestor, Gari Melcher, who is a pretty famous artist in Detroit; his works are displayed outside some buildings and museums too. He had a large amount of artistic talent to show his celebricity in the art world (Well, the smaller one. Lol). This is where most of my Prussian ancestory comes in, since this other girl, Emma, met Gari and had an affair. Well, they obviously weren't married, and Emma got pregnant. Gari then flew away at the moment he knew. We also proove (other than we know they're Prussian) that they're Prussian because most of the neo-Prussians were very 'neat' and had that type of 'proper' status publicly; if anything like that affair would break out it's like a crucifixion would be planned.

Now, my grandparents generation to my great-great grandparents have relations to these names, but deny any relationship to that story. For example, my grandfathers name is Gari, and so is his son.. and so is his son. So 3 generations of that name. Also the original Gari Melcher looks EXACTLY like my cousin (the third gen. Gari).

But since Gari Melcher was such a huge artistic talent, we know how my family is really creative in certain forms of art. Music is actually from about 50 years ago, but Visual Arts have been given since the original Melcher.

Pretty neat story I thinks.

(Oh yeah, I might also be Norweigan. Lol)

German for sure. My grandpa on my dad's side is really into this. Sondag is actually scandanavian, but the ended up settling in germany a long, long time ago. So while I may have some scandanavian blood in me, a good percent it german.

Irish is apparently the other from my mom's side. Her maiden name is McGuire, which I think is Irish. I haven't traced it much, someone on my mom's side said that we might be Scottish. I was like woah, because I though that Mc was Irish, and Mac was scottish. Either way they're from the same neighborhood.

Now I may be taking a gander at this, but... What the hell is Jerman and Irsh? Is it one of those tiny Former USSR countries?

I'm British, Eskimo, German, and Finnish. Don't ask me how a German and Finnish person ended up marrying... because I have no clue! Further in I find more Brittish and then Irish and French. So I guess there's nothing all that special about me.

German, Irish, Scandinavian, and some people who stayed in France for a bit (generation), so I don't count myself French. I could've been Japanese, because my grandpa ( God rest his soul. : Sniffle : "I'm not dead yet!") was in Japan for World War 2, met a really nice chick there, too, I hear.

Everyone who thinks they had important ancestors: dream on.

Me, I learned recently that I have a bunch of Prussian ancestors who mainly dominated most of Europe in the 1000s

Would you mind telling who they were? Surely, if they ruled most of Europe they should be in the history books.

I'm Jerman, Irsh, American Indian, and English.

No, you're stupid, dumb, Texan and retarded.

Always the pleasant one. ^_^

As far as I know, I'm purely Chinese.
Or if you want to get specific..
My father's father is from Shanghai so when asked where in China I'm from, I usually say Shanghai. But his mother is from Chaozhou (the US/HK spelling is Chiuchow), and my maternal grandparents are both Hakka people. So technically I am mostly Hakka, and Hakka people live all over China and have no designated origin, accept that they "came from the north". But my maternal grandparents are both Hakka people from Guangdong, so I could say I'm from Guangdong, and Chaozhou is in Guangdong too!, so three quarters of my blood is from Guangdong. But I don't speak Cantonese or Hakka or any other dialect from there. Furthermore, I only speak a little Shanghainese, I mostly speak Mandarin. This gets me so confused, I'll probably just tell you I'm Chinese and I won't elaborate on it. Tho' specifically I'm one quarter Shanghainese, one quarter Chaozhouren (Chiuchowyun) and half Hakka. Or one quarter form Shanghai and three-quarters from Guangdon! Or just a full-blooded mainlander!
I totally did not have that rehearsed. xD
Or something like that. I really don't understand most of it.

My mistake; I meant to say who the Prussians (in general) were. . .I didn't meant to come across as saying that I have ancestors that were key to the Prussian Empire. XD (Hope I made myself clear this time.)
