I've gotta go with nintendo. They've come up with some good games(not to say that the others haven't) that have those characters that are really lovable and...well, you know.

MoetheChicken

Nintendo's definetaly good. You know what would make Nintendo destroy all till the end of time!?! If Nintendo would buy Square! THAT would be some company...Yep! Not that 99% had already thought of that... I just had to put it out there...

Nintendo, on principle

though i do love the games on PS2

MoetheChicken
August 17th, 2004, 10:20 pm
Sure Sonys got some good games but think about this! The Playstations have practically no games on it made by sony. So all the sudden sony could hire some fools to make some games all the sudden totally screw the playstion series! But Nintendo makes almost all there games so we know there not going just screw up! Go NINTENDO!!

I agree with Shiggers...

I'd say Nintendo.. always loved their stuff... The SNES is unbeatable. Xbox is just a PC, I already have that. M$ should shut up and stay out of the console market >.> Sony's okay, especially considering they have the least powerful hardware at the moment.

MoetheChicken
August 18th, 2004, 05:24 pm
Yeah... Microsft is inexperienced while Nintendo and Sony are STILL good. The only reason why X-box isn't dead yet is cuz they got Halo! And sadly they'll stay alive as long as they make it... :(

Dyablo
August 18th, 2004, 06:01 pm
Halo isn't the only reason X-Box is great. It has a lot better games than GC. I use to like nintendo but most of the games that came out for the GC are for like little kids and most of the are stupid and boring.

Neko Koneko
August 18th, 2004, 06:22 pm
I so find that the most annoying comment I hear about Nintendo.. they are always called kiddy. Why? Because they don't show blood and gore. Feh, I don't consider Super Mario kiddy at all. Maybe he doesn't slash his oponents with a katana or smash their brains with a hammer, but the games are extremely decent and challenging.

Nintendo means, in my opinion, fun and quality.

Nightmare
August 18th, 2004, 06:23 pm
That's not true at all, that's just a general stereotype. Second, saying Xbox has better games is just a matter of opinion. Don't forget GameCube has a few good titles. Like the Sonic, FF: CC, SSBM, Wind Waker, and its coming out with the new Zelda. I don't get much games for GC myself, so I don't know many of the M-rated titles, but I'm sure there are plenty out there.

I've always liked Nintendo and I feel they're the better company because they actually do commit to making innovative games and hardware. That's what I dislike about Sony, they aren't even in a position to further the game industry in terms of innovation because they make very few games. Almost all of their games are made by third parties so they don't have much say about what's on their system. I liked Microsoft more when they first came out with the Xbox because they were taking many chances on innovative software and hardware but ever since Ed Fries left they've been cancelling interesting new games and avoiding making any commitments on the Xbox successor, opting to look at the PS3 before they finalize anything.

Either way, I'll always follow Mario, Zelda and Metroid because Nintendo has one thing going for them. No matter what, they'll always have the best game developer making games for their system: themselves.

Edit: To anyone who thinks mario is kiddy, find me a single six year old that can beat Super Mario Sunshine with over 100 shines and I'll agree with you. Nintendo's games aren't kiddy, they just have broad appeal.

Dyablo
August 18th, 2004, 06:57 pm
The only reason nintendo is still popular is because of it has Mario, Zelda and Metroid. If it didn't have those nobody would even care about nintendo, but they haven't made any good games that are as intertaining as those three.

--In my opinion Mario Sunshine wasn't that fun, they made it seem way better than it actually was

Elite666
August 18th, 2004, 07:19 pm
So let me get this striaght. You're condemning a company because it makes the best games on the market. Of course we shouldn't mention all the other good games like Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness or Super Smash Bros.

Konami hasn't made another game as entertaining as Castlevania:SotN. Capcom only delivers on the Resident Evil Series with any consistency and if it wasn't for Megaman who knows where they would be. Where would Square Enix be without Final Fantasy and Dragon Master? If it wasn't for Halo maybe Xbox would only have one or two million sold instead of ten million. None of this matters, the fact is the company did make these games and should get credit for it, not be looked down upon because of it. The fact is Nintendo consistently delivers the best and most fun games on the market nad never falters in quality too much. That can't be said for any other large development house (maybe Blizzard but Nintendo gets its games out the door in less then four years).

Dyablo
August 18th, 2004, 07:22 pm
I didn't like Fire Emblim, Castlevania (any castlevania), and the only Resident Evil I liked was Nemesis but that was for the playstation and not nintendo, and Final Fantasy X was good but X2 sucked in my opinion.

Elite666
August 18th, 2004, 07:24 pm
I'm not telling you to like it but considering how many people do there isn't any denying that they are good games.

Dyablo
August 18th, 2004, 07:28 pm
Yeah, FF games are good but Fire Emblim was trying to be like FF and it wasn't that good but that's just my opinion and I know some people that like that game.

Elite666
August 18th, 2004, 07:34 pm
How was Fire Emblem trying to be like FF? It isn't even the same genre and the Fire Emblem franchise is almost as old as FF. Also, it's story is far more reality based and avoids dealing with every single cliche about love and the world's destruction. Also, it has no towns, a completely different battle system and is really completely different. If Fire Emblem didn't have levels there wouldn't be a single similarity between them. There are at least 200 games that are more similar to FF than Fire Emblem.

You're still missing the point though. It isn't likely that any company has as many games that people like as Nintendo. You even have three franchises you like from Nintendo and since you seem to hate every game out there, that's an accomplishment.

Dyablo
August 18th, 2004, 07:38 pm
I don't hate every game that's out there, <_< and of course nintendo has the most games out there it's one of the oldest game systems. I never said that X-Box had more games than nintendo, so I guess I'm still missing your point, because I'm not sure what point your talking about.

This is my point. You're saying that if Nintendo didn't make these games no one would care about them. I'm saying that can be said for any game company and it's stupid to say what would happen if they didn't make the games because they did make them. They should be judged on what they have done, not what they might be like if they hadn't done it. The point is Nintendo is popular because they make good games and that doesn't make them bad.

Maybe you're not getting my point because I'm misinterpreting yours.

This thread is not for the "best system", but its for the smartest/best company. You keep refering to how you don't like one system becaues of the games. For one, the best system is based on opinion, and secondly, you can't prove a point simply on opinion, which is what it appears you are doing.

I agree with Angelic on Nintendo being the best, I loved the whole Mario series...although i'm stuck on 3.... the games were really well made for their time and were fun and challenging...

There are a few more games for the SNES that i loved, like chrono trigger and rocky rodent, but thats beside the point, Nintendo has strived to stay near the top and they are just perfectly great in my opinon.

True... The question was what's the best company. This is what the company is doing; What games are they making. How are they spending their money, What plans do they have for the future. I asked about companys cuz I wanted to be general. Like maybe a company doesn't have their best system they've made or they have unsuccesfull games right now. It's an all around general question of Nintendo's, Sony's and Microsoft's past, present, and future...

Yeah... There still not a big selection of 4 player games... at least we still have Nintendo to rely on. This is what I think about the systems...

Gamecube-Good for multiplayer games and pretty general
PS2- Great for RPGs and just locking yourself in your room for days
X box- King of 1st person shooters and sports games

They all have somethin good...

Ya know what they need to do? Combine Sony and Nintendo to make the ultimate system with Mario and Cloud and RPGs and Fun for the whole family games! That would be Shweet! Screw Microsoft though... Sony really needs to change their controller...blocky, uncomfortable, stupid it is...

I'll say Nintendo. Although their games might not be as 'graphical' or 'deep' (like some final fantasies, xenosaga and some other stuff @_@ and some.. graphic novels).. they were the very first company (I think :heh:).

They've gone so far in developing, and still up to now -- their games are fun and challenging ^_^.

How is the PS2 "consolewise" the best? Its by far the weakest of the three. The DVD player isn't that good, and its the most expensive here in Australia (PS2 $280, Xbox $240, Gamecube $140(!). And for software, PS2 undoubtably has the best.

EDIT - I cast my vote for Microsoft.

Also I understand it's entirely under personal preference what kind of games you're into. Sony is known to have the better and more exclusive games, though.

The stuff and why it's good and bad!

Cube
Controller-Best, Super komphertable!
Console-The collest looking, Spring loaded;da best, actually four controller sockets!
Games- Average got some good and some bad

X-Box
Controller-Small are seconed best but the big are the worst
Console-A DVD player is good! So bulky...
Games- Only good stuff is Halo and Fable, Microsoft is inexpirienced...

PS2
Controller-Garbage, Only thing worst is big X Box controller
Console-Umm why is the "on" button in the back...TWO CONTROLLER SOCKETS! you think they'ed fix what they screwed up on their last system, Why would I whant to stand it on its side so it won't fit in the TV stand or it can fall off the shelf or the CDs could fall out the tray on the ground or while the tray's open my brother can walk by and snap it off!
Games-Biggest selection Many good yet so many bad!

Conclusion-Go Nintendo!!

I say NINTENDO! I have a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), a gamboy color, a (broken) gamboy advance, and the GameCube, as well as the Xbox and the Playstation 2.

I think the better company would be Sony. Not because of the PS2 but because of all their products in general. I'm a Mac guy, so there's no WAY I'm saying Microsoft. They're just too huge to deliver quality products. Look at Halo: they had to buy Bungie to make a great game, and Bungie was a Mac company, too!!! Nintendo, on the other hand, has been in the business a long time, and they have a lot of experience with video games. I would say that, out of the three, Nintendo gets my vote.

I perfer Nintendo although the other companys are very respectable. Microsoft is the strongest system out there. What I don't like about it is the lack of good games and other details such as controller... also X-Box has the ability to save data directly onto the system. I've found if you do that it actually slows down the system itself. I love the cube but it also has its flaws. One of the main ones is the lack of a DVD player. And yes, I don't think DVD players are that necessary; I mean it's a GAME system. Although... technically the cube does have a DVD player... just not in America. It's called the "Q". Only released in Japan. :crybaby:

So... one name for each version?!

I really liked what Bill Gates said: he wants to make XBox the ultimate multimedia center, replacing computers with it. So you work on computers, but play, watch video, go online on XBox - intersting idea...

When Gamecube was just coming out, i say a picture of a sleek silver one, with a lot of buttons and a Panasonic logo - i think that was the version that could play dvd

MoetheChicken
February 14th, 2005, 08:16 pm
Yeah that's the one! It's silver and has a funky lil duhiky on the top for sensing the remote. On the Q there is a electronic disk tray instead of the cubes spring loaded. It doesn't make any sense why they wouldn't release it to the US. It would help them out a lot. There is the problem of translating the DVD types (Japanese DVDs only work on japanese DVD players) but it would be well worth it!

i don't care about companies, i care about games. many people say sony is evil, but their platform has put out more games of interest to me. nothing on nintendo, sega, microsoft, has ever amazed me enough that i'd want to shell out enough to buy another console. if someone bought a console for me and supplied me with games, sure i'd play them...

OS X> Windows

I see more people using Windows, even if it is worse.

GC> XBox

I see more people playing Xbox.

Wii (will be)> Xbox 360

Lol, you can't say that until it actually is released.

Nintendo.

Microsoft is bad at EVERYTHING.
OS X> Windows
This is a copy of one of my post in another forum (hope nobody minds)As far as I know (no experience in OSX or linux so all im saying is from things I have read/heard) the 3 OSes have diferent users in mind.

(look at darqs sig for an example)

Linux is for people who want to tinker and learn, even tho lately I hear some distributions (Ubuntu) have been focusing on hardware compatibility and useability. As far as I know its still not ready for primetime and most users are intimidated by it. Then again some say its not a question of the OS being functional but how willing the user is to work the way the OS does and not imitate other OSes functionality. The good: Customizeable, your OS does what you want it to do and only what you want. Bad: Can be confusing for alot of people.

Windows is everywhere from little timmy who loves to OC and runs games at max res squeezing every ounce of power form his components to grandma who only knows how to check her email and use MSN messenger. Plauged by viruses due to it being allover the place, but its general knowledge that safe browsing habits and a good AV, spyware checker and a Firewall will keep yopu out of harms way. Good: its everywhere, you can go to a store and just buy software to your hearts content. Bad: Viruses, unstable to some.

OSX is based around the idea of having fun with your computer, its simple and intuitive and upto now there has been very few viruses (if this was due to its security, its low market share or a combination of both is unkown to me)
Good: its pretty and can handle most things Bad: limited to apple hardware, to some the one button mouses might pose a problem (easily solved through software or a non apple mouse) and very limited gaming unless you use boot camp.

@ OP:

Macs cant run windows aplications, macs can be partitioned to dual boot Windows and OSX, the good and bad parts of both OSes remain.

Bang for the buck= PC mainly because of the number of vendors competing amongs eachother. To some however Apples design, the chance to use OSX and still maintain windows for gaming is a blessing.

Depends what you really want, if you want a nice looking computer with options (the X1600 is a pretty good gamer from what I hear and OSX is something Ive heard mixed reviews on) then I would go mac.
I for example would give the mac a go (if I had the chance) just for that reason, to try something new but still have windows to fall back on.

If what you want is a regular PC for gaming and or work at a very reasonable price then go PC.

lol theres probably a crapload of mistakes in there so feel free to correct me. teh linky! (http://www.notebookforums.com/thread166156.html)

Nintendo.GC> XBox

Well this depends on many factors, to some extent your age, your gaming preferences and your play time.

I've had both, they were both cool, both had great games (Halo and SSMBM anyone? that almost anyone could play) then there are the diferences, Xbox would play my CDs and DVDs in my room (so I didnt have to buy a DVD player ) The gamecube control was alot more comfortable for my brother (4 at the time, handled himself pretty well in SSMB ) on the other hand I found the Xbox control to be alot more comfortable.

Games:
Halo and SSMB were bothe good, I didnt have ALOT of games but when I think of GC I think zelda and mario, Xbox on the other hand brings images of Halo and Project gotham racing.

In one hand you have the GC with alot of "family/fun games' such as mario kart (never actualy played double dash but if its half as good as the original it should be a blast) and SSMBM. Great for an afternoon of gaming with my bros and heck even my mom. Games are easy to pick up and fun to play.

In the other you have Xbox with halo, PGR this was more of a chalenge for my yougest brother, the games were alot more realistic, the strategies alot more complicated, the AI smarter (altho this is possibly due to the games I had)

Nintendo.Wii (will be)> Xbox 360

Nintendo Wii > 360 in terms of originality (IMHO) the Wii is aiming for a new way of gaming, i say dont fix what isnt broken, on the other hand a little fun never hurt anyone.

Nintendo Wii could pwn the 360 but this is really up to how well the developers can inplement technologies such as the motion sensor, and how cool/fun/nice the games will look/be.
