Probably Pokemon or Chibi Maruko Chan. Or some other anime from Chinese Channel. Does Sonic The Hedgehog count? If so, I would say that was my first anime I've watched.

Sailor Moon-I thought it was some kind of science program so I wasn't so interested. Actually, before that the first time was an early morning when I was in France. I couldn't understand a word they were saying-I just remember a bunch of girls with magic powers...pretty cool when you're seven and there's nothing else on. To this day, I can't bring myself to hate it (no matter how cheezy and girly it gets):lol:

I think the first anime for me was "Vision of Escaflowne." I happened to be changing the channels and came across the American dub. Don't watch the dub! Don't do it! Dilandau sounds HORRIBLE! I highly recommend the subtitled version in Japanese.

i think it was Kimba: The White Lion. it's a translated version of Janguru Taitei. i watched it all the time with my grandma and my mom when i was kid...or so i'm told. :P
but i think the one's i used to watch when i was first getting into anime were Escaflowne, Teknoman/Tekkaman, and of course, Sailor Moon. when i was a kid, i didn't know what anime was, so i didn't classify Kimba as anime. lol.

@ GP- Yeah those were my first animes too. Pokemon came first while I was like 9 and the DBZ when I was 11. I can't believe Pokemon is still going on. After the 5th season the show got dull. I couldn't believe Misty had to leave. Well she was my Pokemon crush and then Android 18 was my DBZ crush.

@pianocrazy90: Pokemon was dull in the first season, I was just too into it to realize it. Always the same thing in every episode: Walking, Meet someone new, Team Rocket, -Get's owned, More walking. I'll admit that sometimes Ash fights a gym or catches a new Pokemon... Other than that, it's the same thing. For DBZ, I NEVER understood what was going on, because I stopped watching after he beat Freeza. No idea what happened after that, and nobody try to explain it, because I'll just get lost.

Oh I do remember Monster Rancher. That was a crazy show. The only character I remember from that show was some yellow monster with one eye and a tenticle that he walked on. I also remember some other show, I think it was called Robots Rebot or something like that. I also remember Gundam, that was a cool show. Then later came SD Gundam. It was okay. Oh there was also Transformers, but I didn't watch that show.

I liked Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. I didn't want to watch the Big O though. And there was Yu Yu Hakasho which was really good. I never did get to see the last season of it though.

It was Hellsing (wich is why I have this nickname) and NOIR.

The one that got me hooked was Naruto. I watched Inu-Yasha whenever I went over to my friend's house because she sleept with the TV on.

But~ they are not the reason I watch animes... I started almost three years ago when Inuyasha was broadcast on tv. I really liked that, and that was the beginning of it all.

My first was neon genesis edited on Cartoon Network and that started me up watching basilik and stuff.

I'm not going to count Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh-because they are both animes that were too "americanized". But Death Note was the first series that got me really into anime. Death Note lead to Bleach and Blood+ and then I discovered Noir, then Black Lagoon, Chrono Crusade, Trinity Blood. Death Note was the first manga series I ever bought. Now I'm also getting into the D.Gray-Man manga and the Bleach manga.

Pokémon or Sailor Moon... I think Pokémon. Back when I watched those two, I didn't know about anime. I just thought they were more cartoons (with better art).

the first anime I ever watched (when I was 4) was pokemon...when i didn't even know what anime was..then I moved on to things like zoids and yugi oh..things im embarassed about now..what got me hooked was fruits basket.

I dont count Pokemon as my first anime, no one where I live does. (Even if it is)
So I would say Sailor Moon. It was the first show that I knew came from Japan, I love it still. I used to see clips of Yu Yu Hakusho on Cartoon Network when Sailor Moon was over, but I never got into it until a few years ago...Man I missed alot of anime fun!

The first anime I watched was Cardcaptor Sakura when I was 4...I think I really liked it when I was younger, but I still remember a lot of good things about it...

and then a load of 'lets fight for justice' i.e. dragonball and sailor moon and transformers, and then something about a bee finding his mother and making a lot of friends and another anime about a monk who is just a child and how he can solve problems through speech...
Oh and basically a load of studio ghibli stuff, and the little mermaid...

I think my first ones were Akazukin ChaCha, Ranma 1/2, Dragonball, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho (('Ghost Fighter' Where I'm from)) and Pokemon? ^_^ I've grown up with Anime so I guess I'm just lucky enough to have seen them since I was around 2 or 1? *Laugh* Although I can't exactly remember which ones were first. :heh:

believe it or not it was Slam Dunk xD from then on i've dreamed endlessly about going to highschool... and now that i'm finally here it's not as great as it seemed xD

And Tv series was FMA(this was anime central one night while i was waiting for GITS:SAC)

my first anime was petite princess yucie.
i started watching it like quite young. its a nice anime.
then same like you watching the interesting advertisements and started watching other anime like d. gray-man, samurai deeper kyo, ghost hunters and more.
i got hooked to it and like you became an anime freak.
i think without anime, my life is boring. and anime is like my main and only tv show.

Mm definitely Sailor Moon. It was a disappointment when it got cut off.
By now I know everyone died in the end and all that good stuff.
It's where my inspiration to draw and become a mangaka spouted from.

I think it was Sailor Moon on a German TV program. It was one of the BEST they've ever shown, so I watch the the first episode again and again! ;)
But nothing can competes with DIGIMON. I love(d) it!

Started getting hooked on anime when I watched Inuyasha when I overheard it from my classmate. Ever since I started many many animes (though still countable :P) and to think that at that time I told myself I wouldnt get anime-hooked! x_x But really, what makes animes so attractive? :\

But the one that really got me into anime was Inuyasha.

First anime was pokemon (followed by dragonball Z) when i was in primary school lol.

The first non-english subbed anime was SDF Macross, and i still think its the best mecha anime today :P.

The anime that got me into anime was fullmetal alchemist and it still remains my favourite shonen. Nowdays tho im more into into slice of life, drama genres.

My first subbed anime was probably Rurouni Kenshin. That was after a friend who got off at the same bus stop as I did told me every day about Kenshin, Trigun, Inuyasha, etc.
About Trigun, I would think: "So, basically there's in the future guy that's a tree and can grow a gun with his arm?"
About Kenshin, I was like: "So why is this expert swordsman just wandering around saving people? Boring!"
Inuyasha: "Giant sword!"

Yeah, I saw the animation style of Sailor Moon and I was like: "Wow, this is a whole lot more interesting than Bugs Bunny! Flying lights and magical girls!" That was back in the day when I wasn't aware of the difference between subbed and dubbed.

But then social pressure told me that it was too girly for a guy like me. Oh, the innocence of youth...

My first was Sailor Moon on a German TV channel too. Up until about a month ago, I'd only ever seen it in German. I then thought it was good idea to go "relive the old days" (xD) and watch it in english as a first too... oooh my word, the english one is so, so, so butchered... (and what is up with the "sailor says" anyway xD) so then I watched it in Japanese. And then got bored.
xD I didn't know what anime/manga was when I first saw Sailor Moon and I was convinced it was originally chinese too. Then one day on KiKa (tis a TV channel...) they happened to mention the word "manga" and so my anime/manga obsession began xD
After that came Pokemon. Which I still love xD ...well, the games I still love...

(I think I'll stick to the likes of Death Note for now... xD)

Obviously Pokemon.... But I didn't know it was anime... I was like 5 or 7.
My real anime was like Naruto. I watched all of it :P
But of course... I dropped it

First anime I watched knowing it was Anime was the spirited away movie, but I used to watch Sailor moon when I was 6. :P

in the end... ^_^ i ended up watching Samurai X,Gensomaden Saiyuki and all the other anime as well

i started watching anime when i couldnt sleep at 2am so i started flipping through the channels until i seen inuyasha and i just got hooked:)

Started watching Pokemon back in the day~ XD when i was 5~7
Then watched DBZ and Zoids with my dad (he loved Zoids o.o) up until I was 9

The first anime-anime (that was actually in Japanese) would be Inuyasha =_=

first anime would be spirited away (the movie) second would Ouran High Host School Club...which i managed to watch in one day...
