:D thanx to its interesting advertisements i started watching it :P
in the end... ^_^ i ended up watching Samurai X,Gensomaden Saiyuki and all the other anime as well
:huh: but soon AXN started repeating the shows and i started buying a few anime and then... :D i couldn't stop watching anime!!!!!!

Dragon Ball Z (which I still love) and Pokémon (which I outgrew years ago) they came on TV and when I was about 11, I was hooked. 5 years on, and its still pretty much same&#33;

The first anime I ever watched was stuff like &#39;Fighting General Daimos,&#39; &#39;Voltes V,&#39; &#39;Gatchaman,&#39; and &#39;Combattra,&#39; but they never floated my boat... the series that really sparked my interest was the original Macross. Then I saw Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind, and my mind went all to hell... but the only anime that has withstood the test of time for me is anything by Miyazaki and Orange Road.

my first anime was my neighbor totoro, but the first thing i watched that i knew was an anime was akira, i almost barfed, i was little. and people like akira so much beacuse it had a deep moral meaning, you can hurt the people you love without meaning it, and when you need help, the dont care and because it was very detailed and had appeals to eastern audiounce (spelling) with the guns, gore, partial nudity (spelling once again),

First was probably Sailor Moon when I was 5... but I didn&#39;t even know how to pronounce &#39;anime&#39; back then (Anaim anyone? :P). I was an obsessive fan of Pokemon when it became huge here, also. After that, I took a break from anime for about a year or two. Later on, I watched anime casually on cartoon network, with shows like &#39;Rurouni Kenshin&#39; and &#39;Yuu Yuu Hakusho&#39;, and enjoyed them. I also watched Cowboy Bebop, because I thought it was "cool" and 14+. :P

One Saturday, they replaced my Cowboy Bebop with a crazy show called .hack//SIGN, around the same time I was getting into online gaming. It was deep and suspenseful, and I couldn&#39;t wait another week to see the next episode. I got on the PC, and used KaZaA (I was new to computers at the time, leave me alone :P) to download the rest of it. To my surprise, it was in JAPANESE @_@. I was blown away by it.

I tried getting my friend that lived in Japan for his entire childhood into .hack//SIGN, but his favorite anime was "Neon Genesis Evangelion". Even being a casual anime watcher/manga reader at the time, I knew what it was. I downloaded the series soon enough (really crappy quality fansubs) and it changed my view on anime forever. However, I was missing an episode, so I decided to go to the BEST place to get anime, the IndyDDR forums (Don&#39;t ask @_@). A member had the episode I needed, along with many other shows on his FTP server.

I asked him how he got all of these shows, and he told me he used a program called "Bit Torrent" to download them. He gave me my first tracker link http://www.anime-kraze.net to download anime. The first "currently playing in Japan" anime I downloaded was Scrapped Princess.

i dunno man, can&#39;t remember the name of the series. it&#39;s about a rival to the main character, who did something odd and then the group of high school students (including the main character and his rival) got send to a different dimension. There is magic and fantasy stuff in that dimension, and the main character&#39;s rival joins the baddies. That&#39;s all i remember. (ps: the ending was kinda odd, it shows the main female character running towards the main character, and a pair of angel wing spread from his back when he hugs her?)

i&#39;m still looking for that series and i&#39;d be really greatful if anyone who knows this series would gladly tell me the name of the series. i watched it way back around 1999.

Shonen (as in Shonen jump, the magazine ) is japanese for boys, so its boy manga

Shoujo (as in Shoujo jump, the mgazine. saddly japan only) is japanese for girls, so girl manga

its more of the appeal factor, things that appeal to girls are in Shoujo manga/anima
things that appeal to boys are in shonen manga/anime

I truely dont remember the the first anime I ever watched It was along time ago. But it sure got me hooked on anime ^_^

Shoujo Anime or Manga is like the Girls stuff, for example- Fushigi Yugi, Revolutionary Girl Utena, etc. *(The dramatical love stories)

I didn't enjoy it and for a long time I disliked anime but then several years later I watched "Princess Mononoke". I loved it so much I started collecting more of Myazaki's movies (sorry if I spelt his name wrong)

What have you heard about it? *I* first watched it when I was 8 or 9! (And remember how old I am!) Then again, things were pretty different in the '60s and '70s -- we didn't have TV violence/language ratings (Hell; we didn't have cable, VCRs, DVDs, TiVO, etc. Talk about "primitive as can be"! :blink: ), and the term "political correctness" hadn't even been invented yet. (Although the concept was certainly gaining popularity... <_<) True, "Speed Racer" is probably rather violent by today's standards (I'd put it in with "DragonBall Z" or something of that ilk.), but it's no "Battle Royale"...

Oh man! I first saw that when I was 6 or something. I love that show so much! It's also pretty safe to assume that it was my first anime since I saw it when I was a wee child.

megazone 23 is actually a manga but that was the first i saw.

Next was DragonBallZ, but at the time I thought it was utterly stupid and that Vageta and Goku were constipated. lol! I also never knew they were anime, until I met my insane anime freak friend when I was 8 or 9. ^_^ And finally the two that really made me an anime freak were Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin! I lub them! Then s-CRY-ed. And I've been wanting to see Fruits Basket REALLY bad but I can't! T_T Wah! Oh well, I'll just cling to my Kenshin like a sophisticated little fangirl. XD

Loved it. although about when I was 7-8 is kinda hazy, I think Reboot, meh, it was okay, Sailor moon, WHADDAYA THINK, I'M MALE! I HATED IT! I never really started watching Gundam until Mobile suit came out. As I said, kinda hazy, but that's what I can think of.

Sailor Moon (age 5, you know, when you got up uuber early on weekdays to see it, half the time I was so confused, watched one episode, skipped, then came back in)... I think it was the first season, or perhaps R.... one of those two. Next one, DragonBall Z, loved it. Got me hooked... Sometimes alittle overrated but pretty decent...

I'm not really so sure though. I saw shows like DBZ and Sailor moon later, but I never got hooked on those. DBZ came on way to fuzzy and Sailor moon came on before or during school. I don't remember anymore. x_x

Mmm, technically, it was Cardcaptors, long ago, when it was aired on WB, but I'm not going to count that, since I was glued to anything on that channel anyways. The first anime that really got me hooked was Rurouni Kenshin--the Japanese dub, mainly due to Kenshin's different noises, including the classic, "oro?!" I hate the English dub to bits. :(

I looked up it's origin, and found that it came from an "anime" called "Gensoumaden Saiyuki". That was my very first contact with manga/anime.
Then, 2 years ago, I followed Card Captor Sakura on swedish television. Loved it and still love it. Well, sometimes the characters are a little dull, but I guess that's because it's supposed to fit 10 (and younger) year olds.

'80s child here. I too was exposed to anime, but it was not called that back then. Come on, we had Thundercats and Silverhawks! They were awesome. And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Pokemon was after I was past the 'cartoon' stage, but I still liked it for some reason.
Then I recently saw some Miyazaki films and it dawned on me.
This is good stuff.
The beauty, symbolism, is all but absent in our lazy, cheapened western animation.
Now, my favorite is NGE. I'm going to watch them all. Then perhaps I'll try Ghost in the Shell series.
