Well, a friend used to find sponsors for composition competitions. The sponsors were giving as prize products related to music, like GPO, easwest sample libraries, notion, etc. I thought to suggest it long time ago, but then I thought probably you would have problems to get to do that. The idea was fantastic because the winner composer was getting as prize a tool that can help to improve the audio quality of the compositions.

But what if what is offered is already owned by someone who wanted to enter the competition?

Personally, I want a midi controller. >_>

How about a trophy, medal, or plaque?

BlazingDragon

Yesss....A trophy with $1,000 in it. XD

Yeah, I'm not too big a fan of trophies. I love the idea of giving away a composition tool, though...

Agreed. Since we would all want something different, it could be the winner who chooses the software of their choice.

Is not better in that case to just get the money? lol

BigZenigata

Either money, or the software.... works for me.

Yeah, money would probably work better since the winner can just buy whatever they want with it. :P

Nay to a 'more physical prize.' Aye to the prize money.

Noir7

Perhaps the money could be used as a flight ticket and then taxi transfer to my house so the winner may kneel down and kiss my ring.

Well, I'll take the ticket? :P bahaha!

Yeah...is that round trip? Because a trip to New York, Sweden, or Tokyo would be pretty fun.

Noir7
July 24th, 2009, 11:13 pm
Right now it would be Dublin actually! (Going back to Sweden in about 5 days though) ^_^;
But yeah, never know where that flight ticket may take you, and I think that's the beauty of it, isn't it!

That better be some ring!

Anyways, I say we let the winner choose the prize (monetary or physical).

Since we are on the topic of a "prize," what if the winner's piece was professionally produced and wins a spot on a CD that we, the Ichigo's community, would compile of all the winners of our contests. Once finished, we would have the best possible sample of the musical capabilities of the community to show the world!

Just a thought I pondered just now. :heh:

Not that I have much say so but I second Porsche's notion. All the talent behind the composers here at Ichigos, compiling an actual CD of the best would be an amazing prize. (I'd buy it....xD)

I think it's dead, Jim.

It's not dead. If you remember, you'd know that Noir has been a tad busy to put this into motion. Just take a chill pill, he'll get back.

Good he is busy. I am very busy everyday also, haha. Else I would not be able to participate.

For now, yes, it obviously is. Maybe it will come back when Noir7 comes back.

Sorry for being dead, I've been quite busy the latter half of this year and kind of neglected this forum altogether. Sorry! As for the contest, I will have no time to manage it in the months to come, but you should all expect a grand competition later!

What else is new around here?

Noir7

I'm from Sweden

...Wait, does this mean that this is going back into effect...?

...Or was that just a random bump...? -__-

Noir7
January 29th, 2010, 12:33 am
There are no random bumps, my Canadian friend. The contest will just have to wait, as I have many other time-consuming projects on my hands now and in the near future.

Nyu001

Well, in the waiting time, I hope everybody polishing their compositional skills and creativity. ^_^

Almost half a year later....
I love how the internet saves everything everyone says. =D
Nobody look at my past posts.

It isn't dead, still. The contest isn't being put into motion, but that does not mean it is dead (since it isn't 100% being done-away with). And lookie-that, Noir7 did come back to say, "Hi."

Noir7
February 1st, 2010, 12:25 am
And in all honesty, isn't that what everyone was really hoping for?

deathraider
February 1st, 2010, 05:27 pm
Is "I'm from Sweden" Swedish for "Hi"?

Noir7

I just wanted to make it clear to everyone so that there would be no misunderstandings.

Well, there can't be any other reason, right? =P
I was asking why that was, and why Noir himself hasn't deleted this thread yet, or at least unstickied it till he actually decides to start this contest (if ever that ever happens). Not that I care much. I just came in here was like "what the hell? This thread's still at the top of the page?"

Just one more person's composition thread being pushed off the front page for no reason, hahah.

I'm tempted to laugh...

My ban button may be dusty, but it's still functional you know.

The reason for why this contest didn't get off the ground is simply because if I am to dish out $1000 to a winner, then I want to have adequate time to prepare the contest, run the contest as well as review the results by myself. Unfortunately, moving to Tokyo for two years hasn't helped awarding me forum time... and recently I've started producing music professionally, as well as investing in property and other unholy stuff which has shifted my priorities further.

I guess this thread has been in the limelight enough... *un-stickies thread*
