hello. i'm ander. i have been drawing for awhile. i think i have established my drawing style. well... at least when it comes to characters' faces. i hope you like them and maybe you can help me get better.

i am a college student (i'm no freshmen, i'll tell you that) and i do have a long break sometimes within each classes. i was supposed to draw a lioness with a zebra patterned dress... but i didn't have a reliable pic of a zebra, you see... all i had was my memory. so... i decided to say it is for the year of the tiger, which happens to be mine.

That really is a very small eyebrow. :P Be careful with the eyes when drawing from that angle. The left eye which is at the right in the image looks like is from a front view. And the head looks too squared.

Actually, the eyebrows match the character, and they eye is almost totally fine, in my opinion. Some of the better anime I've seen on here...
Welcome to the forums, Ander!

Hey that's some nice stuff! Do you do any digital artwork?

^_^ well.... i meant to make her eyebrow that size... i figured lioness is not even supposed to have eyebrows.

thanks for liking and commenting on my piece. i don't really do digital art, but i do little bit of touch up with the 'paint'.
thanks for the welcome guys!

Nice! Did you do that in pen?

Ander
February 16th, 2010, 05:47 pm
i drew it with a pencil first... and then simply go over it with a pen.
I'm still a amateur body drawer... but i think this one came out to be quite alright.

RainingSilver64

The body came out nicely. The only problem is the neck. It's a bit too far in. Lolz, it almost looks like her head is floating XD.

Hey!
You have done a very good job. Ander your start is in a right direction, you will be a good sketcher. Keep doing good work with new ideas..........

Thanks everyone for the comments. this new one might strike you guys as something familiar. Long story short... these are the characters I, personally, used to defeat sephiroth, the one winged angel.

It started out with just tifa... then yuffie... then cloud. i didn't look at any of the pictures so this is all from my memory. However, I can tell you right now that i have drawn these characters before. Yuffie was hard though.

Lolz, it's cool. I usually can't draw random action scenes like that(is it from a manga?)

The girl seems a bit out of proportion(mostly her upper body)...idk, her chest seems too big, something is weird about her arm(can't put my finger on it), and I feel like I should be able to see her other shoulder and or arm(or at least part of it)...but that might just be me.

The boy too the far right(or is that a girl? I see a chest...)...his/her facial expression seems a bit awkward. I can't tell if he/she is supposed to be smiling or confused.

XD And I have no clue where the sword is coming from(what kind of sword is that?) but it looks awesome.

I like the guy in the back the best. Lolz.

Ander
March 8th, 2010, 07:28 pm
yeah... the girl's body is weird. i wasn't quite sure where this drawing was going... but having only one girl was kinda boring. hence i neglected the whole perspective thing. i'm not the greatest with body... but as for the facial expression... i meant to have that expression. if you don't know how she is feeling... then it might be because you never had a reason to have that feeling. and as i mentioned, this is all from memories...

Ander
March 10th, 2010, 06:39 pm
this is one of my characters i came to be fond of. i'm supposed to draw a shark under her foot but... im rather too lazy to look up a pic of shark and draw it so... i decided to just procrastinate on that. :heh: her name is Deci by the way.

Mushyrulez
March 10th, 2010, 09:12 pm
Woah, that does look good... I think you might want to look into shading some parts of it where it's just coloured solid, to give it more of a textured look... though that'd be only for dramatic effect XP

RainingSilver64
March 10th, 2010, 09:53 pm
I agree with Mushyrulez. I can't tell which leg is on the invisible shark(lolz)...
And you seem to love doing angles where one arm disappears behind the person's body, which isn't a problem, except something about it always bugs me, but I can never put my finger on it...

XD Other than that, you did a nice job.

Nyu001
March 10th, 2010, 11:04 pm
This drawing gave me a weird illusion, lol. It just need like a white line for help you visually. And to fix a part of the body that seem out of place. But looks like magic marker...

Edit: add the shark! Don't get lazy! :P

Edit: I just notice than that white thing on the leg was part of that shoe.

RainingSilver64
March 11th, 2010, 12:06 am
I was thinking of the white line too, but now that you've done it, it still seems weird to me...

Nyu001
March 11th, 2010, 12:08 am
Yeah, it does look weird to me too but less weird than all black, lol.

Ander
March 15th, 2010, 07:09 pm
umm... thanks for the comments. i used a pen to color the black part. and i don't mean to be rude or anything... but the hip should stay the way it is... otherwise it looks too thin and weird to me at least. i think i know what i did wrong.. i believe her bent leg is too short. that's what i see for the time being..

you don't like it all black? i kinda dig it. :heh:

RainingSilver64
March 15th, 2010, 10:51 pm
I agree about the hip being too thin in Nyu001's edit...but I can't tell what you changed in this new version...

Nyu001
March 15th, 2010, 11:28 pm
I positioned the hip where the legs are located. The original one looks out of place. The only take you can do is to re-draw the legs, but that is not possible because is a marker. XD

HopelessComposer
March 16th, 2010, 12:55 am
The original and the Nyu's edit are both messed up. Nyu's is closer to being correct though, imo.

Ander
March 17th, 2010, 07:27 pm
Meh...! I'll just consider this one as a "not quite there yet". But i would like to thank everyone for the input.

Here's another one of my characters. she's playing a wii-like console (someone kinda scared me from drawing a full wii controller for some copyright reason [don't know if that's true]). but yeah... she's working out in "ninja mode".

p.s. can't believe they actually have that ninja smilie. lol

Nyu001

RainingSilver64
March 18th, 2010, 01:22 am
XD Lolz.

Her left arm looks short to me, and you must really like these 3/4 angles. Lolz. Her right arm doesn't seem far enough back for her shoulder being pulled that far back...but that might just be me again...Are you going to add any shading to this?

HopelessComposer

Well, profile views are best for showing what's going on, but they're a little lacking in personality. Front-on views are really hard to make 3d looking, no matter how good you are at drawing, and it's usually harder to tell what someone is doing in a front-on pose. 3/4ths is a good compromise, so it's the best fit for a lot of subjects. You say "you must like that 3/4ths view" as if he's using it as some kind of handicap, but he's handling the foreshortening and such in the drawing very well; the right arm looks spot on to me. This is a big improvement over the last drawing, methinks.

I do think her right leg is twisted a bit too far to her right to be a natural sitting pose; I think we should be seeing a tiny bit more of the front of her right leg. Good picture over all, though! I'm especially fond of the detail on her left ankle...the hands are good too. You know your stuff, Ander. =)

Sorry again, Rain!

Yes! I'm getting better! i must admit, Rain. i do like to draw 3 quarter view. i do draw front and side... it's just that... i don't want to be right in front of my characters sometimes. i don't know.. i guess i got some issues.

and thank you for the kind words, as well as the criticism, hopeless composer. i did have a lot of trouble with the leg... well... the whole lower body. but so far that's the best thing i can do.

here's a fanart (i suppose) that should be considered a front view. i guess it's not a complete front.. but it's still more than 3 quarter view.

p.s. I think the real title of this piece should be Is She Really Going Out with Him?

RainingSilver64
March 22nd, 2010, 07:59 pm
Lolz, this is Ninpouchou...Have you read Naruto up to date?

Anyways, this is pretty good, with a few exceptions. XD I know Sakura is forehead girl, but Sasuke's forehead is pretty big in this pic too. A bit too big...
Sakura's wrist and hands are a bit weird...but most of us have trouble drawing hands anyways...
Are Sasuke's arms resting on a wall? Because Sakura's body kind of disappears too...so I'm guessing that's what it is...
And the shading on Sasuke's side...this might just be me(as usual), but it doesn't match the flow of the rest of the picture....

ANYways, what I do like about the drawing is their facial expressions :)

HopelessComposer

Nay, he's sitting on a couch. She's leaning over the couch with her arms around him.
I think that should've been made more obvious though, either through better positioning of the two of them, or just by panning out the camera a foot or two. Good drawing, though!

Ander
March 26th, 2010, 01:49 am
this is actually from all memory. i didn't look at anything to draw them.. i kinda wanted to see what my style of them would look like... so i realize sasuke's hair is too... space-ie? anyway... yeah... i realized the bodies are a little off.

hi! nice sketch.. I think you are very good in arts. You know what, I look-up to artist because it's my frustration. :(

what do you mean by it's your frustration? do you mean you draw, too? :\

p.s. i also have another one. these are all the character's i have come up with. to be honest with you... i wasn't planning to draw nine faces... but after two... it just seemed too empty. hope you like it.

RainingSilver64
April 7th, 2010, 01:46 am
o.o...Wait, these were your character designs?

The strand of hair that comes down for the woman in the middle...well, not the strand itself, but at the top. I like your various expressions a lot, and the color of your pen XD.
And I especially like the girl in the middle of the top row.

Aand...did you right "Kim JiHoon" too? Your Korean writing looks so neat that it looks printed...Which character is that?

Ander

Aand...did you right "Kim JiHoon" too? Your Korean writing looks so neat that it looks printed...Which character is that?

haha.. that's actually my name. it was kinda empty in that spot so i decided to just add something in there. i remember taking some calligraphy class in korea so it kinda helped me with the neatness i believe.:heh:

thanks for kind words raining silver. oh and it was done in pencil. i just used the standard microsoft picture manager to make it into that color.

Her pose... lol, I like it. xD

RainingSilver64
May 14th, 2010, 02:20 am
XD I like both of them, lolz.

The first one(on the top), at first, I thought the lines extending from her right eye were there because her hair was overlapping her eye, but then I saw the same effect on her other eye and realized those were her lashes...wasn't sure what to think of it, lolz.

As for the second one...I'm not a big fan of slouching, lolz, but it came out nicely. Although something seems weird about her neck to me...And the sword doesn't seem to be pointed back behind both her legs, but it looks more like it's going right through them?...I suck at perspective, so I don't know how to explain it, lolz.
>< But I can't really draw wings, so I'm very envious.

:) Nice job overall.

EDIT: I just realized that the second attachment is also a bit hard to see...maybe you could re-scan it darker?

You're making me want to draw. Your drawings remind me of my old stuff (but better, mind you). I dunno, they have the same atmosphere about them. Reminds me of sitting around in the Summer, sketching, and actually enjoying myself. Drawing's felt a lot like work this past year or so. Maybe I'll head out to a park or something tomorrow with a sketchpad and enjoy myself a bit. =)
And I like the way you draw hair. Complex enough to look unique, but simple enough to be animate-able and clean looking.

Ander
May 19th, 2010, 07:43 pm
you're right.. i should have darken the line. well.. i got a new pen (0.2 mm) which i can't wait to use.

other than that.... thanks for the kind and productive words.

drawing should be fun! but sometimes it really isn't. haha.. i mean really really isn't.

Ander
May 28th, 2010, 01:04 am
first one is obviously an old one.. but i made the lines clearer.

the second one is just something i drew out of nowhere. i drew valasha (the ninja girl) first, then deci (the female pirate), then that guy with his hands up. i think it came out nicer than i expected.

RainingSilver64
May 28th, 2010, 02:21 am
o.o...Nice XD.

The ninja girl looks a bit too relaxed though, lolz. That's just my personal opinion though. And all those coordinated lines to her right side? I'm guessing that's her hair, but for some reason, it doesn't seem to flow...too puffy, lolz... I can't see where from her head it's coming =/...
And this might also be just me, but it doesn't seem like Deci's gun is pointing at his head...more...to the right side of it. :heh: I suck at perspective, so you might want to get advice from HC on that one.

XD Overall, it's amazing, so I really think you should add a background.

Yes, the ninja reminded me to Yellow Monkey strongly. I thought probably is the same person.

HopelessComposer
May 28th, 2010, 03:51 am
Was YellowMonkey that jackass that tried impressing people by using MS-Paint instead of a real art program, when plenty of free art programs are readily available all over the net? That guy pissed me off...

I don't think Ander is the same dude; Ander seems much cooler and a bit more talented. Then again, YellowMonkey could've just matured a bit over the last few years and could have practiced drawing a bit more and he could have evolved into an Ander, I guess.

RainingSilver64

i thought about how i should go about with this... and i just decided to say... yes.. i am yellowmonkey.

i came back because i like it here. it's a community consists of people who are friendly, some are interesting, some are talented, and some are very informative, too. obviously i have a few reason why i decided to come back as ander... but then again... it's not like i was really trying to keep my identity a secret. (besides the fact that i changed my birthday )

i know this place has a lot of talented people and eager ones, too, but i think i already mentioned that. and that's why i like to be a part of something like ichigos forum. after all... this place did make me wanna compose music... but hey... i don't want to disrepect those who take music seriously. i try and will always try to make music out of the respect for those who know what music is... but at the same time, i'm making music cause i like to and that may be why it won't have all those technical stuff. music, after all, is a very complicated thing.

what i'm saying is... i got back on drawing. i know what i need to do and what i want to do.... well, more so what i want to do. i've been sidetracked for so long :drunk::stoned: :heh: that i need a place like this.

i hope i didn't upset anyone.

now let's talk about my drawings. the ninja girl's hair actually goes through like this... a foot long straw, tube like thing that binds her hair... and that's why it is a little distant from her scalp. hope that answered your question Silver.

Nyu001
June 2nd, 2010, 01:31 am
The ninja girl looks fine to me. What I find weird is the guy's left hand. Being that open makes me think of flogs. The gun that points to the guy's face would look better if was pointing to his cheek and not close to his ear. At first sigh all look nice, but when I start focusing in the guy, then I start thinking that there is something weird with him. The girl that is giving us her ass, is that the 'pirate' one you drew before?

RainingSilver64
June 2nd, 2010, 01:32 am
...Because I wasn't part of the Ichigos community 4-5 years ago during your first appearance, I don't really have anything to say...except that your profile's status/"about me" never had your birthday listed...and you did say you were born the year of the tiger, which matches up with the birthday on your previous profile, so I don't know how you changed it, lolz.

So, two things related to "ninja girl" XD. Who is she really: Valasha or Shap? (I finally found some of your old drawings! Lolz.)
And I know what you're talking about, that ribbon thing(or maybe it really is a tube...I wouldn't know, I've never seen anything like it in real life before XD)...but the angle that it's drawn, I think you should be able to see it...

Edit: Grr! Nyu001! Did you really have to post a minute before me? T_T
And I think I mentioned that the perspective was off with what Nyu001 is saying...

I'd imagine he wanted to start fresh here. And I think the spirit of that rule is to keep assholes from abusing the forum/dodging bans/having conversations with themselves, not to keep people from starting over with a different name here once every five years. =P

Umm...I looked at his previous threads, but I couldn't find any of his drawings using MS Paint(excluding his signature). He had plenty of drawings done by hand, so I'm not sure what you're talking about...

Does anyone care to elaborate for me please? (>_< One of the disadvantages to not having been here since the beginning...)

Nyu001

Probably you do not see them because the drawings/paint whatever it was, was took down by him. Could be that he used an external site to show images like photobucklet.

RainingSilver64

What I don't understand, Ander, is why you would use a separate account. You do know that having two or more accounts is against the rules, right?

i believe my aunt canceled our aol account.... well at least that's what i told her to do since no one was using it, and she was paying for it. my hotmail account didn't work for retrieving my old password... thus i created a new account... 'might as well', i thought. so in a sense i was glad that i got to make a new account here.

i must admit that i'm a little skittish as to say why i wasn't so persistent in using my old account... but i'd figure (as hopeless composer stated) that i needed a fresh start.

as for the old drawings... sure... i think i still have them. i'll post them up soon enough.

Ander

as i promised. here's some of my old stuff. i still consider them to be pretty decent.:heh:

okay.. um. the very first one was when i started to create my own characters. she was one of my first two characters that i created. she has now placed herself in my sig. yes those are her eyes. looks way different, huh?

the second one was just for the sake of drawing.

the third one, i drew the guy first then the girl.

I like the last one a lot. The pose and the expression is attractive. :) The title "crying makes you ugly" is funny. xD

haha.. thanks. i guess it was a little insensitive to say that.

:O Wow. The first one definitely looks way different. Like...wow.

XD I really like all of your characters in the second one(esp. the girl looking down), but I think the guy could use a bit of work. When did you draw that?

The last one...lolz, at first, I thought the girl was crying blood. But then I realized it was her mascara...You did good with the tears and her mouth, but her eye lashes(even with mascara) seem too...noticeable. Bottom lashes don't show that much. Also, I think you should add some lines to show her eyebrows scrunched up a bit more. You have a line very lightly drawn(or scanned) on the top-ish, but I think you might need some more on the underside to exaggerate the sad look on her face more. Other than that, I really like that one too :).

yeah... my line work is still not that great. i think it's because i'm using the pen like a pencil. anyway... i drew the second one, maybe about a week after i drew the third one.

Ander
July 29th, 2010, 05:57 pm
ok. the first one is just some villain i made up. i just thought of someone who would just piss me off... or at least be annoying 24/7... asking me what i'm thinking, where i'm going, why i'm like in a certain way, if i want to play with him, if i want to go somewhere with him, and so on.

second one might be new to some... but i had this character in mind for a long time. you may remember him from the faces i drew... he's the guy with the slick back hair. i wanted to draw him reminiscing about his young days.

the third one is the lioness girl that i drew before... but this is when she was a teenager. the pencil quality was a little weak so i edited a little. she may look weird because she, obviously, doesn't have the human ears... so it looks alittle empty in that area.

RainingSilver64

:O

Is the first one a man or a woman?...

XD The second one is really cool. Especially with the angle...but...something looks off to me, but I just can't put my finger on it...=/ Maybe I'm just not used to the angle.

I really like the lioness girl too! :) She's so cute! But her hair is see-through, lolz. And again, might just be me not being used the angle, but I think her neck is a bit long.

I like the first one. He shows personality there and feels unique. :)

He also makes me think of him as...

Some evil and sick old man that likes to have male slaves for release his sexual desires. He looks dirty, self-fish, weak psychically but mentally manipulative and sadistic. He seem rejected by society and anti-social. He seem also unstable emotionally and caring in a way. :P

The second one I like the angle. Nice one

The last ones does not look like she is a "teenager" to me. I like the tongue and pose.

The last ones does not look like she is a "teenager" to me. I like the tongue and pose.

I think she looks like a teenager...the way her hair has more lines to "split" it, and wraps around her face kind of makes her look younger...But then again, the face itself doesn't look much different...

By the way, I just noticed this, but her ears(lion/tiger ears) don't look real, lolz. X) They look like stuffed animal ears to me.

thanks for that comment. i am glad i got some ideas across through. i also think it's easier for the evil people to show their true color hehe.

to RS: the lioness girl was a sketch so i wasnt really tending to make it nicely. (especially the pig tails) but i will probably improve the drawing. thanks for the input though.

August 3rd, 2010, 09:43 pm
the first one, you may have seen. i draw glasses on her sometimes.

the second one is actually the newest out of these bunch.

the third one, just wanted draw something macho and mysterious.

the fourth one still holds a very special place in my heart, because i tried so very hard to get her body right... and i had no idea what i was doing, but it turned out quite nicely.

the last one is connected to the fourth one, thus the name Qura and Mura. i personally like to draw her, but she's pretty hard to draw sometimes.

i hope you enjoyed.

ps. other than the second one... these are all almost a year old. i hope you guys see some improvements.

RainingSilver64
August 3rd, 2010, 11:01 pm
Yeah, definite improvement XD.
(I'll put up some critique anyways, lolz.)

The first one...face came out nicely, as usual. I especially like how you defined the lips. The only two things that stick out to me are her ear and hair. You have a line kind of cutting off her earlobe from her head, and if it were a different angle that wouldn't bug me, but at the angle it's at, it does. And her hair in the front...it's like...very...opaque? I'm not sure how to describe it...and her ponytail. Same kind of thing with the ninja girl a bit(or a lot) earlier.

The second one looks a bit older, so I'll leave it alone(for the most part). I really like the expression of the girl in the middle, and the pose of the girl on the right(our right) is cute, especially because she's a bit chubby, making her look younger, lolz.

Nice angle on the third one...I kinda really want to see it in color...

XD The fourth one is really funny, lolz. I like it. But I'm kind of confused with her left leg...at the next moment, she would have to step into her punch with that leg, but it's drawn back, so I look at her and feel like she's going to fall...anyways, I like it overall, and her face is very unique :).

I'm not sure how the last one and fourth one are connected but if you say so...Btw, are the two people in the last one the same person? If they are, good job showing the same person with two different personalities. X] I like how she looks really sophisticated close up, then you look in the back and she looks very...boss-like? Lolz, I'm not sure, but I like it.

Ander
August 6th, 2010, 12:03 am
thanks. and one more for noticing the face of the fourth one. i do like to draw her face, though most of my drawings tend to look the same.

for the last one... yes. they are both the same person.

more drawings. these are all older ones... about 9 months. except for the last one. that's pretty old.

the first one... i drew a fairy... and i don't know what made me want to draw that pose.. it just came out like that... i was so focused on arm and hands i didn't realize where her hand was exactly until i looked at it from afar. thus the title.

the second one... i have a nickname kebo.. which turned to keebs heh. well i thought about a character with huge arms who shoots bows with incredible speed.

the third one is an old one. you will really see the changes.. or direction of my style.

Nyu001
August 6th, 2010, 12:08 am
I have no comments about the first one, Lol.

The second one is pretty fun to look at it! The angle is fantastic. You can feel that arrow close to your face!

RainingSilver64
August 6th, 2010, 12:15 am
I'm completely with Nyu001 on these three XD. Lolz.

The angle of the second one is like...really cool, lolz. But the hand holding the bow just seems a bit weird to me...not sure what...maybe the thumb?...

Ander
August 6th, 2010, 02:21 am
kekeke. yeah. i noticed the thumb, too.

Ander
August 7th, 2010, 06:52 pm
ok. another bunch.

let's see.. the first one is a character that i was developing and it turned out quite nice. if you look carefully enough you will see something quite "odd", as in there's one more than what should be even.

the second one is before i took a life drawing class. it took me forever to draw her body. but i tried.

the third one is the oldest out of the bunch. i'm pretty proud of it despite how inexperienced i was in drawing a body.

the last one is a color pencil piece... and yes, this was before i took the life drawing class... so my shadow and value is very amatuer-ish.

can you tell that these are old compare to the ones i have posted earlier?

Mushyrulez

YOURE A NINJA MAN

The third guy holding the sword's hands look rather... weird; but it looks like it was really hard to draw those movements :O

RainingSilver64
August 8th, 2010, 01:22 am
XD Yay! More updates!

The first one...her neck is a bit far in, and it might be just me, but I think her midsection is a bit too skinny...that, or her arms are too thin...or maybe both....and...does she have a third ghost arm or something? o_o;;

XD The second one is really good. I think some shading would be nice...her arms would look less flat :heh:...I kinda want to see you draw a hanbok...

I really like the third one. Especially since I can't do much with action scenes.

I think the arms are a bit short on the fourth one...but nice blending of colors X]. Color pencils?

RainingSilver64
August 10th, 2010, 01:13 am
Nice...I can never really draw open-mouth pics...teeth always end up weird, lolz.

You gonna finish this, or leave her upper body kind of hanging in the air? XD

Edit: Just noticed, her clothes are kind of weird. It sticks tight to her body around her mid-back, but is loose by her shoulder...I think you need to make it puffier in the back, lolz. I want to see this one in color too...

Nyu001
August 10th, 2010, 01:18 am
For God sake! She is screaming in pain! You ripped off half of her body!

Now she needs mechanic legs!

RainingSilver64
August 10th, 2010, 01:23 am
I think the look on her face was supposed to demonstrate sadness, frustration and anger rather than physical pain....lolz, and for a ripped off body, that's a pretty neat tear :P.

Ander
August 10th, 2010, 10:06 pm
:heh: yeah... i didn't really get to draw her body... cause i'm still not good at it. it was going well with the angles and the arms and fists... and then BAM! i hit the brick wall. so i didn't really finish it. but i got the thing i wanted to get through... and that is her face and the fists.

these two, i drew them just the other day.

first one is that pirate girl when she was a little younger. the two things floating around is.. well... maybe i'll explain them later.

the second one started with her eyes open.. but i ended up closing them. i really wanted to see how much i knew about hair one this one... and really put a little more thought to it. i think it's fairly well.

hope they are good.

RainingSilver64
August 10th, 2010, 10:52 pm
The pirate being Deci, right?...
It's interesting, since it kind of gives me the impression that there was some kind of huge battle, and the ship exploded or something, leaving her alone with her pet companions(the two things floating around), but alive, drifting down a river on a ship fragment...or something like that anyways, lolz. The only thing that bothers me is her arms and legs, which definitely seem kind of weird, even though I know it's probably because of the perspective and water...I think it would make more sense if the piece of wood was a bit larger and was under her body up to her knees and elbows(and I think that would be a bit easier to draw)...my opinion anyways. Other than that, I really like it. XD It's fun to make stories out of drawings like these.

The second one...really nice job on the hair :). Glad to see you put more into it.
The arm however...the angle is a bit weird(the bent one). The way her hand is on her head, it feels like the arm should be coming out towards us(the viewers), but you have it drawn facing kind of up. The hand and the arm are too close together, and the way the hand is positioned...yeah, I tried it out, and it doesn't really work. (Just looked again, and I realized that the problem is that her right shoulder is too close to the body. Because of the angle it's at(you can see the other shoulder), I get the feeling that she was lying down and is slowly getting up, but her right shoulder is too close to the body and makes it seem weird.)
Lolz, I always find it interesting how whenever you have an angle like this, each eye seems to be giving off a different emotion. Her right eye shows light frustration, while her left eye seems to show a bit of...sadness? Like she's giving up...
Btw, what is she wearing?...

Ander
August 12th, 2010, 10:50 pm
to RS: hmm.. i think it's the line that i randomly drew around her right armpit area. it was supposed to be like a pillow, but i didn't expound on it. as for her hand... it is not pressed on her head but rather holding the weight of her hair. i understand you are seeing it the right way since i didn't draw everything out. i had this idea that she is hugging the pillow while working on her laptop, then gets frustrated with something.

she's wearing... nothing, like all the hard and lazy working ladies out there. lol

thanks for the comments though.

RainingSilver64
August 12th, 2010, 11:35 pm
:O It was a laptop!? Lolz, it looked like some kind of art canvas to me XD. Too much like a box.

Anyways, I hope you know that I love your drawings even though I point out a lot of little things :heh:...

Ander
August 17th, 2010, 09:53 pm
that's good, actually. i need everything i can get, since that's what i'm working on: learning to draw where everything makes sense... and show people that to some degree i understand what i'm suppose to be doing.

Ander
August 20th, 2010, 01:31 am
this one i drew during the beginning of my life drawing class. i consider it a breakthrough in my drawing skill since i don't usually draw a whole body. the left one i drew it from memory... the right one i drew from a mirror reflection . YES! i drew a girl's body through mine. i think that's why it looks kind awkward. i think it came out nice though.

RainingSilver64
August 20th, 2010, 01:53 am
o.o I'm not sure what you're talking about with them looking awkward, it looks completely fine to me. I actually really like this one...the only problem I see, isn't so much with the drawing itself, but like...okay, well, it's the ninja girl's hair - the way it's tied. Try taking two pieces of string, wind them the same way you did with her hair, tie them on both ends, then twist them in the opposite direction you winded. It comes apart...unless her hair is gelled or something, lolz. (Trust me on this, I'm a girl with long hair - I've tried winding my hair like that before. XD)
Oh, and although it looks amazing without shading, I think it would look even better with it, X].

Nyu001
August 21st, 2010, 04:28 am
Both of them looks fine to me, nothing awkward. What stood out to me was the tail. xP I am seeing you are doing these clothes in a lot of the drawings. Mostly because it's the clothes of those characters. But it's starting to get monotonous.

Ander

hope you'll like it

RainingSilver64

Lioness girl reminds me of Naruto XD.

Btw, I think the black background should be extended a bit more, since none of ninja girl's body is touching the black, but the lioness girl is touching white...

RainingSilver64

Ander

They looks like the would fit in one of those old movies from American films where the antagonist is a rich, self-centered and arrogant dude and the girl is a semi-innocent one that likes the bad one but ends with a good nerdy boy, or simply does not like the nerdy one and ends disliking the bad dude and just become friend with the good one, lol. The girl would look better without the fang. Also, it feels weird without her bottom teeth showing - it looks like she's missing her bottom teeth right now, especially because her top lip appears to protruding farther from her face than her bottom lip. If you fixed the mouth area, she'd be really cute though.

okay,:\ i couldn't help but have the urge to post something up. i didn't for the longest time because i was too lazy to scan pictures-_-. but^_^ here are three that i hope you'll like.:P

the first one.... "always ready to fight, and never ready to give up." this one took me awhile ... to make the sense out of her teeth and her mouth and her lips and her lower teeth, and her jaws, and her nose.... pant:pant:pant. but... i think it came out great.

the second one. boy... this one was just an experiment with the facial expression:cry:. :heh:she's also one of my character: Liz Vaylore. She's from the royal family, i suppose.:D don't want to give out too much now.;)

the third one was originally on the white paper, but i gave that brown paper feel to it through the picture manager thing:shifty:. ^_^i really liked the title of this one, but ultimately i just wanted to draw a side view of a random girl.

RainingSilver64
October 1st, 2010, 12:47 am
o_o;; Sara looks much more evil than frustrated...kinda scary...although I must admit, I do like the eyes XD.

Second one is good...maybe the hair is a bit too straight...looks more like a girl to me though...

:mellow::D

okay:lol:. the first one is Samus. I had this idea of her training as a young girl to be an astronaut or something, so this is her in a training suit. you might say her face is a little skewed to the left:\, but my excuse is that she's going "whew" to the left (our left, that is).:shifty:

the second one was a random thing. i wanted to draw a body, since i haven't been drawing the bodies^.^, so i drew this. i had a lot of fun drawin the hair actually:). hope you think it's good.

ps. the writing in the second says... "Don't be Afraid of the Black Nail".... it's originally in pecil so... it may not make that much sense in this blue thing i did. :heh:

RainingSilver64
October 11th, 2010, 10:06 pm
The first one, I think her nose needs to be slanted more/drawn further out to the left. I like the expression though XD.

The second one...LOL. The hair is awesome, but her hand is right on her butt, lolz. Either put it to the side so it's on her hip, or bring it up/bend the arm more so her hand is more on her lower back(her palm should be right at the bend of her upper body). Oh, and also, her hand might be a bit big...
Also, I think that her upper body should follow the path to her shoulder, rather than having that line curving in/hanging off the way it is...although if you do that, I'm not sure how much of her breast is supposed to show...
Other than those few things her dress being really really short, I like the pose/angle ^_^.

hahah. thanks rainingsilver. i kinda wanted to emphasis her hand being on her butt and being a little more provocative. i also wanted her to look like she was in motion before someone took a picture of her... kinda like a photoshoot, so her body might be a little off balance looking. and as for her hand... i suppose it is a little too big. i'm gonna use the excuse of her finger nails being too long. lol.

alright... got a several new drawings to share.:D

the first one is just something i drew to illustrate some character's personality traits. i think he's saying something....

the second one is Sara holding a giant needle... the ones you use to sew things together. i don't know why i decided to draw that.... but i'd figure it's 'cause she's a cat-like character that likes to play with a yarn-ball.

 anyways... the third one is my latest one. as you may have noticed that i've been drawing a lot of bodies and it paid off i believe. She's like a warrior who's very fond of snake, or who knows...? maybe she is a snake in some way. i don't know yet, but i'm starting to like her. I try to incorporate some color into this character but i think the black and white sorta suits her. it's kinda too cliche to give her a green color for the snake color.:\

hope you like it... and i realize that some of the drawings i did earlier do look a little weird, so comments are very welcome.

You forgot to draw a board. :P I like the last one because it looks more different of what you have done in the past. It is refreshing. For colour, I think red would fit her better than green. But red is another cliche colour... lol.

Also... they are so short... :P

...I feel that something strange has happened since your last drawing and these three...

i don't understand... what do you mean by that?

as for the shortness Nyu mentioned... i think so. i kinda see it too... especially the last two.

RainingSilver64
October 29th, 2010, 02:25 am
For Sara, her face seems a bit off...and yes, she's short, lolz...her legs...and her breast placement seems a bit off...
She looks like she's holding a baton almost, and I found that cute, even though that's not what you meant for it to be, haha.

And for the cobra woman, her legs are also short...and her hair kind of looks fake to me, lolz. Like a doll...XD

The drawing is good and very realistic, which I like.

It's been a long time coming...

okay.. couple of new drawings to show you guys.
Let's see... The first one was one of my in-class project for my illustration class. I'm pretty proud of it. I was forced to shade and it definitely helped me come out of my shell.

The second one was another one of my illustration project. I was supposed to draw a book cover using a scratch board, which was very interesting. This is the rough draft of it. The finished work came out very terrible. Never want to use the scratch board again. It's hard.

The third one is just the previous drawing. I stretched out her body a bit so it looks better.

The last one is just something I wanted to try out. I think this made the girl's body shorter from my third drawing.

I hope you enjoy them.

The first one has become my favorite drawing done by you. Really nice! (Though it looks bad that guy digging his hand in that other guy that looks like Owww in a way, lol). I love the pose, clothes and expressions. Very different of what you usually do which is good.

The second drawing looks rough as you said but it has a cool deep if that is the right word. I like it, it would call the attention. The only I am not liking is the typography, it's very bland, and the lack of background. I would have liked to see the finished one, lol.

The fourth one looks funny... fat, lol.

Ander
December 7th, 2010, 11:27 pm
thanks nyu. you seem to know how to make a grown man blush. haha jk. I'm not a grown man. hehe. Anywho... That first one is actually an interpretation of a song by Bob Dylan titled "A Thin Man's Ballad". The word I was trying to express was "Clueless" or "Unawareness" (I actually had the word "self" in front of those two words but my teacher told me to get rid of it).

You know what I realized? After having been at the "Post Your Picture Thread"... I think he has your previous hair style. lol.

This looks like the cover for a sexual Christmas CD. Well, at least not one so innocent with children and silly little things. I like the drawing, it kind of looks sexy, but the candy kill a bit its sexiness by looking more squared than curvy and by being short. Her left eye looks a bit weird by looking more open than the right eye or maybe is just the iris. I like her earring. It's a cool drawing anyway. xP

Ander
December 17th, 2010, 02:10 am
hahah. thanks nyu... her left does bother me as well... but ... i tried to draw a "I don't care" expression on her face, but that was a coincidence.

two new things I wanna show you guys. I've just been drawing alot lately... trying to get back on that wagon.

The first one... is just a face. I took some time to draw her face... and her hair, too. I think she looks older with shorter hair, no?

The second one is a group pic. I wanted to practice my composition.

I attached the original pen/pencil work for the both drawings. I hope you like it... Tell me how you feel.

I can't help but notice the girl in the first and last picture's eyes are kind of...off. Her pupil looks like shes looking to the side, but the whole eye is faced infront. :/

But I really love your drawings ^-^.

December 22nd, 2010, 03:13 pm
The first drawing, the girl's lips and teeth are really good. It brings a strong contrast that makes the eyes point directly to her mouth. This drawing made me want to see it elaborated, like creating a three dimensional effect. Just because her mouth looks too cool to leave the rest of her head plain. I like the eye, it add a bit of deep. :)

By the way, be careful pushing her neck forward. She will be very bend when she get older. XD

The other drawing is really nice. I like the two girls and guy below the two girls above them. All three looking at you seriously, like if you did something wrong or you are unwanted there. You have some dangerous characters, Ander. The two character above the three looks like they are "placed in a different plane". Like, why are they looking at the right side? What are they looking? Is it there something in their eyes that are telling us that they do not want to look at us? Do not care or do not know of us nor of the trio below them? There is something kind of sad and in their eyes. Maybe stubborn and antipathetic too. But that is just me, lol.

Ander

thank you for your comments.

@Nyu001: For the first drawing of the face... I did try to put some depth to it:think:... but a lot of it... though not much was there to begin with:unsure:... didn't get scanned:(. There were more lines to show the fullness of her hair:asuka:... like having layers and stuff:sweat:. I was so proud of the way her face turned out that I didn't want to ruin it by adding more lines:\... and also why I didn't draw her body. hahah:heh:. I guess you could say that she's got that lioness stance:shifty:. But yes... I do think I should elaborate more on this one-_-. Thanks.:)

Thanks Nyu... the word "transmitted" was very unexpected... haha.

1 This is that snake princess when she was young... She doesn't have that face painting yet, cause she's still too young.
2 I rescanned hoping that it come out better... and I think it did.
3 I'd figure I should draw a rat since I got a mouse that wants to be a cat. Later I'm gonna have a rabbit that wants to be a rat. This hoodlum rat, that is.

Alright... a set of new drawings.

The first one just came to me one day. I thought maybe it's time to create a male character and it was a good way to start the new year. He's a pirate. I think I'm going to make him a captain in my own world.

The second one is for the new year. The year of the rabbit. I hope you like it.

The third one is actually something I did before the second one. I thought the little bunny would grow up to be the bunny in the second one.

Nyu001
January 25th, 2011, 04:05 am
Wait a minute, is it me or the last girl is not wearing a pant? Looks like she is missing a pant, lol.

The second drawing is the one that stand out more to me. It looks like it was the one that received better dedication with the details than the other ones. My first thought of it was this: Cool! She stabbed the little girl's head! Oh wait, that is a bunny ear... XD If that ear was a knife and the little girl had a shocked face, like it happened suddenly, it would have brought a crude yet elegant image, at least to me. Anyway there is a dark mood in that drawing which makes me like it. The only thing that looks lame is the type design. It does not fit with the drawing. Type design is a very important element that helps with the aesthetic and help to transmit with a better impact a message.

You know what... I think this is the second time you mentioned about the type designing. I can't say I don't agree with you. I just don't know where to begin when it comes to that. But yeah... when I drew this... I was thinking of a little bunny who weren't allow to see her father getting killed, but she could hear him getting killed, so there's a great tension in her ear.

Nyu001

I had type design shoved in my throat through my whole college years then in one of my previous jobs and other projects. It's hard to not pay attention to it. :heh:

hmm... seems like I got a drawing that I haven't posted. It's the overprotective father of the snake princess and the princess herself.
I tried to show that the girl is tired of her overprotective father, but can't really tell him that, because she knows why he's so overprotective. I'm sure there are girls out there with the same problem.

I still haven't really come up with a good name for the girl. So far it's Princess Ve or Fang... I don't know.

Ander
January 31st, 2011, 12:23 am
The texture happened to come out that way, but of course, it's pencil. It actually helped me with his face structure cause I know it's a little different from the characters that I've been drawing. It seems to be getting harder all the time... now that I see more things.

A new drawing.

I started off with the her right eye (our left, so <- eye)... then I drew her eyebrow above. I then drew her other eye and her other eyebrow and her forehead, and at this point I had a pretty good idea where and how her nose would look, so I drew that. Then I asked myself... 'Now what?' I answer it with a mouth... but didn't know why I drew it like that. I followed a line and drew her chin. After that I drew her jaw line, but it came out weird so I worked on it for a little. After I finished up with that I was contemplating whether I should have her ear show or hide behind her hair. I tried many different hairstyle with her... but it was hard to complement her eyes, so I decided to just tie her hair back so her eyes pop out more. The angle of it all was all too new to me, so when I drew some line here and there and came up with her out fit. When I was done, I looked at it and it kinda gave me this Russian girl feeling. So I gave her a glove and a saluting gesture. To me she looks like a Russian, thus the title, "Russian Doll", 'cause she also looks like a doll.

Ander
February 24th, 2011, 08:56 pm
The year of the rabbit... is still stuck on me.

I don't want to be a depressing reminder... but after I drew this... I thought 'I guess I could call this "A Sad Year"'. I didn't try to shade this... that's just a smudge... but it kinda worked out like shading. XD

Ander
February 27th, 2011, 01:51 am

I also got a new one. This one is actually copied from a book. It was a big book of famous sport illustrated swimming suit addition. There I found this pic and drew it. Hope you think it's good.:heh:

Yeah, I know a girl who just graduated from there. She's a total idiot who can't draw, a ridiculous hippie, and kind of a bitch.
Not that you'll have those problems. You're already good, and always improving, hahah. And the school itself looks awesome. I just happen to know a total retard who went there, lol. XD
Anyway, good drawing as usual. Have you ever tried any life drawing, though? It might help you improve even faster than anime is...I need to start doing it again, too. Plus, drawing realistic faces is surprisingly fun, since you can spend a good few hours sketching just one face if you wanna get really detailed. =D
I'm looking forward to whatever you post next, though. Congrats on getting accepted! o/

Edit: Oh, and I love how you drew the bunny-girl's hair on the page before this one. That's something I'd be very proud of if I drew it; the ends of her braid things are really cool looking the way you rendered them. =D

Yeah, I know a girl who just graduated from there. She's a total idiot who can't draw, a ridiculous hippie, and kind of a bitch.

Well... we could be going for different thing. I was going for illustration, but now I changed to animation, partly due to my professor who told me to pursue the animation department. I know it's going to be very very very hard, but I think I'll like it. I was told that as long as I know what I want to do it won't be that much of a problem to get accepted. Maybe she went there for fashion (possible). I actually got a scholarship along with financial aid, so I was super excited about that, and still am.

I took one life drawing class at a community college, and I am planning on taking one more at the new school. I also need to take landscape class. I actually learned alot in the life drawing class. I think that's part of the reason why I improved. A major part, actually. But it's hard to practice life drawing out of class, because I don't have people I can draw, you know what I mean?

Thanks for liking my bunny. It's been in my mind for quite some time since it is the year of the rabbit.

Another drawing! I suppose I don't draw male characters that often, so I drew him. I've only drawn him as a child so this is the first time drawing this character as an adult/young adult.

Excellent... but careful... He will kill you with his good-look. :shifty:

I got a new drawing. I'm still trying to figure out what she would make that face for... at least what kind of food will make her be this way. A fruit of some kind.... maybe? Maybe... she's not much of a fruit kind of girl. At any rate... I hope you like it^_^

Well... I have a new drawing. I have drawn something similar like this for a very long time, but I must say that this is the best one out of all of them. It may look rather dull, but I tried my best to make it look good without any color. I messed around with it using photoshop, and I think it turned out way better than the original. I hope you guys like it.

Did you use a reference for the last one, Ander? If not, color me extremely impressed. Even if you did, I'm still impressed. XD
Good job, lol. I can't agree with the lens flare though. =P

I do have one... My name is Decivantage.

I didn't have any reference, but I have been drawing that one moment in FFVIII where Squall is hugging Rinoa for a long time. Then I remembered all the times where it wasn't so great, so I decided to draw something that I feel comfortable and yet challenging to me.

Ahhh... I was hoping to spice it up a little with the lens flare. hahah. Maybe it did throw out the balance a little.

And thank you, Animefans12. Next time be like... "I'm going to leave this one comment. : Crap!" ahaha. jk. I just thought that would have been very funny.

I know it's the nature of the anime style, but I think it'd be neat to see a stronger development in your shading and modeling. You're incredible at perspective and illustration, but it's gotten a bit repetitive and flat in all honesty (pun!). I mean, there are different poses and different people, but your drawings don't necessarily stand on it's own as illustrative art but rather they look like sketches from a sketchbook instead. But that's sort of the nature of a lot anime inspired things, I feel; it's relies heavily on posing, and I'm using that word negatively.

I don't want to assume you don't know about anything else because I'm sure you have know interests and knowledge, but Moebius, Leinil Francis Yu, Yoshitaka Amano, Zachary Baldus, and Terry Dodson are some great illustrators that may be worth looking into.

I do need to work on my shading. But that means I need to know exactly what it looks like, or at least how it's spatially positioned. I'll be taking another figure drawing pretty soon, so maybe I can learn more things.

Yaa it's really hard when you're not using a reference, trying to do a lot of modeling and shading. Every time I make up what I'm drawing and do so they generally look all the same, hah

My first drawing class in my figure drawing class at my new school. Abstract was the goal... or just finding the shapes.

Reminds me of Francis Bacon, the composition. He would paint things in an ambiguous confined space a la the Mannerist and use the motif of windows and doors a lot.

Oh cool.. haha. I recognize that name after taking some modern art history class. hahaha. I feel like I'm part of the art community now. (not just anime and stuff, you know what I mean...)

Haha nice.

I've always been interested in cartoon/anime bridging into the realms of fine and criticized art, which has sort of happened with Takashi Murakami and the super flat artists from Japan, Moebius, and Yoshitaka Amano.

Yeah.. I've been to Takashi Murakami's gallery in LA once. I didn't expect anything like it. But his use of color is pretty amazing. I can't say that I am going for a fine art, since I am studying animation, but like you said... it'd be an interesting idea to incorporate those two together... I must say that I don't have much idea as to what a good fine art is so... yeah. hahaha.
