I bought 20 litres of vodka today \o/

fixed.

I got an iphone 3gs yesterday, a tad outdated but brand new from my father, I may sell it to get the money to upgrade to a 4 though. maybe. I got a few apps for filming movies and talking photos with a retro feel which is something I've always wanted to do, and now I don't have to carry both my ipod and phone, so I'm happy.

Something about selling off gifts from people comes off as extremely depressing to me, so I can never do it. XD
I always end up trying to make use of what I get from people, even if I have to go out of my way to make use of whatever they gave me.

Heh, thanks, M. Basically my first reaction too.
But since Zero seems to want a more in-depth explanation, it's this: sometimes I post things without thinking. Later on, I decide I might have been too rude/forward/prying in my post. So instead of simply leaving it up, I edit it out. If this forum had a "delete" button, I'd just use that instead, lol. Zero doesn't understand because he actually takes the time to think about what he's posting before he posts it, hahah. He's not inconvenienced by a mouth and fingers that run faster than his brain does, I guess. =D

trying to infiltrate the terrorists are you?

Pretty much. Lol, actually, my buddy went backpacking across Europe, so he had a few of these in his room and showed me how to wrap and tie it and all that. After wearing it around for a while, I wanted one too ;P It's actually really warm, I think I might end up wearing it snowboarding, rather than wearing a bandana. Bandana's are hard to keep in place, especially when you wanna pull-em down to cool off. Pulling them back up is such a hassle cuz they get so displaced. Usually I end up having to retie it. Shemaghs though, they fall back into place perfectly, plus it's a woven-cotton, so I don't think it'll freeze as much as regular cotton bandanas do.

Oh, and blue and yellow(gold) are my school colors, so that's why I picked this one out.

@Taemond, My roommate picked up Skyrim at the midnight release, he's just now getting to bed. He played that shit 12 hours straight throughout the night/morning. It's about 2:30 PM and he's just gotten off.

Taemond

It tends to be more a nostalgia thing for previous Elder Scrolls fans, but it is still a great game. If you're not sure about getting it I'm sure you could pick up the previous one, Oblivion for like €15 or something like that. If you like that, Skyrim is pretty much the same but with updated visuals, gameplay mechanics etc. Both are games that take a little while to get into though, just because of the sheer amount of quests, locations etc.

Now, back to Skyrim..............

Cheapest I was able to find it other than where I got it from was like $100, so $45 for it, brand new didn't seem bad at all, and I've bought from the site before and they are reputable.

Plus it comes with the mousepad which is really cool and the mouse leaves behind a glowing trail on the mousepad when you move it! I think it's neat XD

I tested out the previous model GP1 before.
It was bright and clear enough for movies, but not as a PC monitor. It didn't do well above 1024x786. Loading was slow when viewed from USB drives.

This new model seems to have solved these issues (brighter light, 1280x800 native resolution, internal RAM). I'm hoping it'll be good as an all-purpose HD projector - it looks like it from the NCIX demo. The only question I have is how it handles different resolutions when it's used as a PC monitor. That's where the GP1 sucked at.

Alright, here comes a bit of an essay.

I can't wait until snow season starts here. I'd love to get into snowboarding now that I have the time to do it. :D Btw Whip how much would you say a decent lot of snowboarding essentials would cost?

That really depends on what exactly you want to buy. The fact is, gear in Australia is expensive, and if you want to buy internationally you'll be paying out the nose in shipping costs. There are many brands that restrict international shipping, and these are:

32, 686, Adidas, Analog, Anon, Arbor, Armada, Atomic, Bonfire, Burton, Capita, Cappel, Coal, Connelly, CWB, Dakine, DC, Dynastar, Electric, Emerica, ES, Etnies, Fischer, Forum, Foursquare, Fox, Full Tilt, Giro, GNU, Gravis, Jeenyus, K2, Lib Tech, Liberty, Line, Liquid Force, Marker, Merrell, Morrow, Nike, Nixon, North Face, O'Neill, Oakley, Patagonia, Pro Tec, Quiksilver, Radar, Rayban, Red, Reef, Ride, Ronix, Rossignol, Rome, Roxy, RVCA, Salomon, Smith, Special Blend, Tecnica, Union, Vans, Volcom, Volkl, Von Zipper

Most of these companies specialize in soft goods, so I bolded the ones that are popular and well known for their production of snowboards and bindings (and often boots), and I italicized a few others that are known for their boots. If you want to buy products from these companies, you'll need to either buy them in Australia, or have them shipped to a friend in the U.S. and then have your friend ship them to you. You will not be able to buy products from these companies through a vendor in the U.S., and have the vendor ship it to you directly. I frequent a forum for a company that sells snowboarding gear. From what I can tell, a lot of the time it ends up being cheaper to have it sent to someone in the U.S. (which would be free shipping), and then have them ship it to you (total cost would be: Cost of the Gear + Cost of Shipping to Australia), than it would be for you to buy these brands in Australia.

Here are the brands that the vendor can ship internationally.

2XL, Academy, Adio, Aerial7, Airblaster, Alien Workshop, Alpina, Artec, Ashbury, Bakoda, Bearpaw, Bern, Black Diamond, Blind, Bogner, Booster, Brewshoes, Celtek, Circa, Claden, Columbia, Company, Defcon, Demon, DNA, Dragon, Drop, DSO, DVD, DVS, Element, Enjoi, Euro Sock, Famous Stars, Flow, Flux, Fourstar, Fox River, Freestyle, Globe, Grenade, Habitat, Head, Helly Hansen, Hitec, Holden, Hyperlite, Intense, IPath, Irish Setter, Kampus, Keen, Lakai, Lamar, Lange, Lifetime, Look, LTD, Matix, Neff, Nitro, Nomis, Obey, Ogio, Orage, Osiris, Palmer, Planet Earth, Pow, Premier, Proboardshop, Rafters, Rainbow, Remote, Ripzone, Santa Cruz, Sanuk, Sapient, Sector 9, Sessions, Sierra, Sierra\Rome-S90, Signal, Silence, Skullcandy, Smartwool, Spacecraft, Spy, Stepchild, Superfeet, Suunto, Technine, Trespass, TruSnow Tubbs, VAS, Vasque, Velvet, Version, Wigwam, Zoo York

Same process as before, but I also underlined Dragon and Spy because they're well known for their goggles. I also want to stress that I am in no way a knowledgeable expert in buying gear. I don't even recognize half the companies I have listed. I simply went to the international page at http://www.trusnow.com and copied their list. This list may not be complete, I'm not sure if trusnow only listed the companies they carry, or if this is indeed a complete list. When I look for new gear (snowboards, bindings, and boots) though, the first companies I look at are the ones I have bolded because they're reputable companies that stand out.

I honestly can't give you a good estimate for what you could pay. I'll tell you what I've payed before though, so you can use it as a reference to see how much more expensive it'll be for you. These are the set ups I've bought. These prices include whatever shipping cost there may have been.
I bought this set up summer of 2009
Board: 2009 Burton Twin: 200 USD (New)
Bindings: 2009 Burton Cartel: 120 USD (New)
Boots: (unknown year) K2 Pulse: 45 USD (used on ebay, I no longer wear these though since I got new boots)
Total: 365 USD

I the board in January of 2011, boots and bindings in the summer of 2011
Board: 2011 Ride Kink: 225 USD (used once, near perfect condition, from ebay)
Bindings: 2010 Union Contact SL: 130 USD (used three times, near perfect condition, from classified section of forum)
Boots: Nike Zoom Force 1: 108 USD (New)
Total: 463 USD

How dating works for snowgear: Gear is typically released around September/October. So, my 2009 Burton Twin was released in September of 2008, so it was new for the 08/09 snowseason.

Alright, so on to advice that you'll probably find more relevant. If you have little experience snowboarding, I strongly suggest you rent your gear (snowboard, bindings, boots) for your first season of snowboarding, especially since you live in Australia. This will allow you to figure out if snowboarding is a hobby you really want to invest in, and it will be significantly cheaper than buying gear. If after this you do decide to invest in the sport, you'll have more experience to guide the type of gear you want to buy.

As far as softgoods go, you'll need goggles, waterproof pants and jackets, gloves, nice socks, and optionally underamour/thermals, possibly a hat. I strongly suggest you rent a helmet, which you'll be able to rent wherever you get your other rentals. You probably already have some of this, and you probably know how much the other stuff will cost. This year I bought a new jacket for 136 USD, and pants for 77 USD.

Feel free to ask me anything else >.>

Wow, thanks for such a detailed reply. I've only been snowboarding once, but I absolutely loved it. I've done Skiing for a season too, but while still marvelously awesome, didn't have the same feel as snowboarding. To be honest I thought the pricing would be a lot higher, I was sort of marketing on $500-$600.

I also just wanted to check costs since renting gear here is pretty expensive as it is, almost to the point where buying is more cost-efficient even if you spend a fortnight up in the snowy areas.

I'll look into buying overseas then getting the stuff sent here via friend too. Although most likely I'll probably just end up buying most things over here since there's not many people I know that could just go and send something like that.

Thanks again. :) I guess I'll start saving for the snow season now. :D

Buy Jordan Rudess' Geo Synthesizer app for 12 or 14 dollars and you will have a new virtual instrument that is easier to carry around. You can use it as a MIDI controller too. I think that is the only good use I can find in an iPad... Plus FL Studio has an iPad version of their software too.

Isn't that how "originality" works as whole anyway? Taking pre-existing bits and pieces of ideas and smashing them together in some sort of weird mental nuclear fusion? Or... mental Lego construction if nuclear fusion is too reactive to grasp.
But I guess we have to give Apple the credit for working whatever magic of theirs to make people believe that they're first in the game when they're not.

As for recent purchases... I'm just about to go out and get myself a Blue Snowball. Could use a decent mic to do recordings. Would go for the Yeti if it weren't so damn hard to find.

@Neko / MANGO: I wish it were that innocent.

The whole "app" business is making people pay for what has always been free by making it sound hip. Apps. All kinds of apps. Let's get this new app!

What is an "app" anyway? Just a program. Like Notepad. Or Paint. Or different versions of Microsoft Office that come with the OS, for free. Now in the form of "apps", you pay for them. "Apps" are just programs that Apple put a spin on to trick people into paying for what has always been free. Here's this new iPad you just bought, now make it truly yours by appifying it!

Same deal with iPod. Make something sound hip. Get people to overpay for it.

I wish I had access to nuclear weapons.

Honestly speaking I never saw a reason for tablets (not drawing tablets for artists, I mean iPad and its brethren tablets tablets) for pretty much the reason you've stated. You're overpaying for a flat little machine to get a chance to pay for more things that really doesn't matter so you can waste an hour on the bus, thinking that you're the coolest person around. =\ I don't know, I'd rather read book.

I never saw a point in tablets and apps that go with those things and the iPods.

Instead of an iPad for €600 I'd rather buy some Android tablet for €200. Sure, it'll be a little less good and it won't have the Apple logo on it but I'd save myself €400. Apple is overpriced crap for people who are suckered in by the fact that it's cool. I still think it's ironic Apple's slogan used to be "think different". If there's one thing Apple users don't do, is thinking differently from eachother. They all have the same boring desktop with the same boring dock, the same purple wallpaper and all Apple devices look alike. It's kind of like wearing a uniform. You're not an individual, you're just part of a large group. You don't matter, you're just there to please Apple by buying more overpriced gadgets that they make you think you need.

Whoops, going offtopic here. I bought €20 worth of diesel today.

So, after playing with the iPad 2 a bit more before giving it back, I got to see the hundreds of thousands of free software downloads. Very useful with high potential. I still would love to see touchscreen computers being open-architecture, but I still don't have much personal use for it. For people who do use it on a daily basis, great. I just hope the majority of iPad users aren't using endless entertainment as a substitute to approximate what they most deeply yearn for, which is my beef with the whole "app" hype.

This on the other hand is much more useful to me. Got a few weeks ago:

Whoa... I guess it'll be fun to dress her up for occasions like Halloween, Christmas and what not.

Wait... do you guys have Halloween in Australia??

Lol, we do. :P Its just that not many people celebrate it, and when they do its only trick or treating up and down the street. Overall there aren't many decorations either. There is a big Halloween Festival held down at a local reserve site, that tends to draw over 1000 people. That's probably the only large event I know of though, nobody that I know goes trick or treating, or puts up decorations.

But yes! I do plan to get festive costumes. :) While they're fun to collect many people use them as models and subjects for photography which I've been getting into lately. I need a better camera though, although it won't be for a while since I bought her. :heh:

Did you take voice lessons or speech giving classes or anything like that in college, M? I almost took a class like that once, since it seems like a good skill to have, but I figured it'd be mostly bullshit. But if classes will teach me to be as articulate as you, then... X3

Holy shit, comments.

Thanks for the complements! It actually means a lot to me.

I don't MC, DJ, or host Radio though I have thought about these things before. I just couldn't wrap my head around my life doing something like that, though.

I've done a lot of presentations in the past four years of my life, so I've learned how to remove deadspace and paralanguage, but I didn't take a course on how to do that. After doing so many speech rehearsals, you gain a bit of a collective sense of how to talk and think ahead to prevent those things from happening. As my Software Engineering teacher once told me "Give a speech like you're chatting to someone about the subject rather than explaining it to someone. If you can do that, you can pull in your audience and direct your presentation simply by outline rather than by notes." I just practiced under that philosophy and got it. So my training is simply from experence of talking to large groups frequently and without preparation.

And I find these comments kinda odd, actually, as 50% of the reason why I got the mic is because my Girlfriend says that I don't properly annunciate my words and that sometimes I'm impossible to talk to because of it. The microphone was supposed to act as a springboard for me to start reading aloud and speaking more than writing as I've been told that I write better than I speak.

I've only tested it on the paint program and I'm satisfied with what I'm seeing for the time-being.

Well, probably because I'm inexperience to writing/drawing on the tablet, it took me a while to get use to writing "HI" on a new sheet for Paint. xD But for the Bamboo Create (not quite sure about the other two types), it not only includes a tablet and the stylist, but also Adobe Photoshop 9.0 and some other programs mainly focusing on drawing. Etto, I haven't explored much, but I'm glad I don't have to waste a hundred or so dollars on getting Photoshop. x3

Does include some spare tips for the stylist and after getting use to drawing on the pad, right now, I feel pretty happy about it. Though I still need to explore more options and what the hell the left side of the tablet buttons are used for. *still needs to read instruction booklet* Other than that, I'm quite sure it's recommended to buy in terms of drawing. xD
