I've found that out too.

This has happened before... until Gand fixes it, just...

For Windows users: Right-click the user name, and click either "Open in New Window" or "Open in New Tab".

For MAC users: Same thing as Windows, only thing is you Ctrl-click it. :)

You do NOT have to donate... of course you do have to contribute to the forums in a MAJOR way to become a moderator - they're pretty much the most valued and respected people here. To be an Admin, well.. you need to be Spoony, Angelic or Gand XD

Well, that sorta works for Mods, too... we've got everyone we need!

Neko Koneko
April 15th, 2007, 08:13 am
Could be a browser cache problem, also, I think Gand set up something so posts with URL's get into a moderating queue, against spammers. Not sure about that last one though.

edit: that must have been it, you had every post that you had in the queue in there for at least three times each XD

M
June 3rd, 2007, 02:58 pm
When you click the "go advanced" to make a post, there should be a box where you can select to subscribe to the thread.

Asuka
June 4th, 2007, 10:05 am
Yes, I automatically have it selected as "Don't send me an email" and then I switched the folder I to place it in to a folder I created called General Chat in my subscribing folders. It still has yet to subscribe for me.

August 8th, 2007, 08:42 pm
I'm not quite sure what you're talking about, but from what I've gathered, you're downloading software that involves a .mus file and requires registering.. so I assume you're talking about Finale, or Finale Notepad, no?

Finale Notepad is free to download off the Finale website, and yes it does requires you to register. If you were downloading software that required payment, I would think that they would have prompted you to pay before you started downloading anyways.

The Helpdesk is for problems with the forum's workings in general. If you're having software or .mus problems, please ask in the Everday Chatter or the Music Discussion next time.

This may just be my computer, but for some reason most of my subscribed threads don't update... I mean, they do, but I can't see the new posts. It shows that there are new posts and who did the deed and when, but when I go there I only see posts up to about two days ago.

One thread fixed on its own, and I could see over a page of new posts, one of which was my own. >_<

Hope that wasn't too confusing.

I think there is something wrong with the search feature on this forum. Every search I do says it's under defined with less than 3 words, but there is most definitely more words than that in the search.

clarinetist
October 15th, 2007, 11:48 am
seems to be working fine... what terms are you searching for?

Actually, I think there's an error. The search engine seems to be counting the number of letters per word, not the number of words. For example, if I type in "Tori No Uta", it will not accept it, because "No" is 2 letters, which is below the three-letter limit. It says "three words" as opposed to "three letters". So, there's an error on why the error comes up.

PorscheGTIII
October 15th, 2007, 11:52 pm
Yeah, something to that extent. If I were to try a search like "Fountain of Dreams" all I get in return is...

The search term you specified (of) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.

If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

Gand
October 16th, 2007, 07:10 am

M
March 31st, 2008, 07:40 pm
The logout button is located on the top level of the forums (forums.ichigos.com) at the very bottom of the page.

When dealing with internet websites, cookies are what hold your login data (for current or multiple sessions), so we have to delete them if you want to log out of the system. When it says "clear all cookies" it means of this and only this website. No other cookies are touched.

M
April 7th, 2008, 03:53 am
Gand is not very active in IRC. Heck, 90% of the time, the staff here are not active in IRC, but merely lurking in case something severe happens.

The best way to get in contact with Gand is Email or PM; then wait a week or so.

Tactics Master
April 7th, 2008, 04:25 am
what do u mean, not active? his name is up on the screen. and what's irc? and whats the thing that has the precentage mark in the blue box in the chat room? sorry if i sound like an idiot, but im really confused. :heh: and how do u get ur own avatar? i dont like the ones that're here. and do u kno how i can transcribe? should i use finale notepad or something?

P.S. out of curiosity, do u know the person who owns the site and the other moderators personally? how'd u become moderators?

P.P.S. no offense, but that pic on ur public profile is kinda.....strange.

HanTony
April 7th, 2008, 06:51 am
His name is visible because his computer is online to collect the scripts (what we say while in the chat room.)
IRC is Internet Relay Chat, so it is the chatroom.
The blue % is a status called halfop that allows some moderator powers.

Gand owns this site as explained on the wikipedia page.

M
April 7th, 2008, 11:25 am
To continue with HanTony's Answers:

...how do u get ur own avatar? i dont like the ones that're here.

You are free to take any avatar you want to the site. Find the image you like, then host it with a site like imageshack.us or photobucket.com , and then go to your profile. Inside the Avatar settings, there's the "URL" field that can be used with the "directly link" field from the image hosting sites.

and do u kno how i can transcribe? should i use finale notepad or something?

Finale is a good piece of software, but transcription is 90% on the person. If you're willing to try transcribing, I recommend you seek out your local music professional and get some help from them. That'll give you a jump start.

P.S. out of curiosity, do u know the person who owns the site and the other moderators personally?

I know that two of the admins know each other personally, but outside of that, no one has ever met anyone else in real life.

how'd u become moderators?

Don't ask. If you do, It's the first step to not becoming one.

P.P.S. no offense, but that pic on ur public profile is kinda.....strange.

RP stands for Role Play. Basically, you write up and develop a character and interact that character with the other characters that members made up.

You Play a Role.

Check wikipedia for a more in-depth definition.

do infractions get you banned? if they do, how many do you get before your're banned?

Asher
April 17th, 2008, 11:54 am
It depends on how severe the infraction. And that's to mod and admin discretion. Basically, use common sense. Don't go flaming (arguing with) people or anything. Really, it's a whole big learning curve. There haven't been a great number of people banned right off, but when it's happened, it's usually been something quite severe.

2. are members and new members defined by how much they post, or how long they have been a member?
3. can you get finale notepad without giving your actual email?(i registered before, but i forgot my password and username):heh:

Buddy, Ignore is for your own preference. The buddy part doesn't serve much purpose, but the ignore makes the ignored member's posts not appear in the forum.
That's a secret recipe that will not be released ;)
I don't think you can... But I'm sure there's a workaround I'm not aware of.
No, but if you hang around for a while, you'll get the hang of who is and who isn't.

M
June 7th, 2008, 03:04 am
You are to keep your old account, and you're new one will be deleted.

Why? Because:

1) Duplicate accounts are against the rules,
2) You're trying to start over rather than repair what you've already done,
3) You will keep your current reputation, as your name will not change to something new,
4) I said so.

Distant Dreamz

Oookay Thanks for letting me know, my new account is called "Paint", I will post once with that account to prove it if you need me to do so. I don't mind keeping my reputation, I just didn't immediately remember how to access this account again and since it'd been 2 years or so and all I figured it didn't matter.

"3) You will keep your current reputation, as your name will not change to something new," <--- Does this mean I spoiled my chance to request changing my username? I really do have a problem with the title "Distant Dreamz" 'cause I used it and variations for a while on other sites and it tends to remind me of how during that period I of time I'd been quite reclusive and depressed--which is kinda a state I really don't want to get back to or be reminded of :\

M
August 5th, 2008, 11:52 pm
Noir7 isn't the only moderator :\ The composition forum generally runs itself, and the music discussion is rather inactive, so I don't often peek in there; and Sondagger has one hell of a system for the request forum, so I don't typically mess with it.

Now, if you listed off your concerns and issues, along with detailed reasons, then we might be able to find a solution to the problem. Most likely it won't entail a new moderator, but maybe some organizational changes.

We always have to wait a long time to get anything stickied that we want to do (such as a contest), and there's no quality control for people who post threads in the wrong forum (i.e. a person who posts a request in the composition forum). I don't see what the problem would be with naming a new moderator that is involved since Noir7 was actually highly involved and was a participant in the forum which made a huge difference.

For sticking, you need only PM an active mod with the thread in question. PorscheGTIII has done this with me for a while, and I usually get it within 4 hours.

I guess I can take a more dedicated approach to the composition forum. I didn't want to step on Noir7's toes as that was his domain from what seems like the get-go, but, like you said, he's vanished so I'll start clunking away at it.

hey i was just wondering...how do you download a midi? cuz i wanna download the midi for eternal snow from full moon...and ichigos is the only place that has strictly piano instrumental version of it...

M
February 1st, 2009, 02:29 pm
You can simply click on the midi link. This will do one of two things: One, it'll open a "save as" window and allow you to save it, or Two, it'll start playing automatically in your default media player.

If the second of those two happen, right click the "midi" link and then select "save target as..." or "save link as...", which will open a save window and you can save it wherever you want it.

thats the problem...i have a mac...so the link opens up as a site....ie. http://ichigos.com/res/getfile.php?id=694&type=midi... so then i tried to save the file but it would say i needed quicktime movie or quicktime 7 pro...so i was wondering i i could still save it without having to find those applications...cuz apparently i have to buy them..

Ryo5492
February 4th, 2009, 08:04 pm
ive tried that actually...well technically the problem is that i have a mac...so its kinda diff..the midi file is played on a separate site..its not downlaoded and then played...and then i tried saving the file itself...but it says i need quicktime 7 pro...so i was wondering if there was a way to download it without having to buy that application...

That's because Quicktime's a bitch. It also happens on Windows if you have Quicktime installed, it'll install a browser plugin and play midi files for you instead of downloading them. You need to tell quicktime to keep its hands off midi files and then you should be okay.

Rust doesn't occur in the plumbing we call the Internet. Don't worry about leaving your account for long periods of time. I'll still be here, and there's no stigma attached with that.

And as Gekkeiju already answered, it's policy for the staff here to not delete accounts.

We don't delete accounts for this reason. If you really can't force yourself to stay away from this place, deleting your account won't help, you'll still browse anonymously. If it's a big problem for you, block *.ichigos.com in IE/FF in content/parental settings and have a friend set the password for you.

Hey, I wanna start a Cosplay thread that not only tells what I wanna do, but ask others what kind of cosplay they'd like to do. And also share cosplays they've done before. So which section should I post it in?

M
February 28th, 2010, 08:58 pm
Depends on what the cosplay is going to be about. If you want it to be purely about anime/game costuming, then the anime section would be best, as most times the two categories mesh with anime. If you want it to be about any form of costuming (movies, books, plays, et cetera), then I'd say the general chat would be best.

Kaji Motomiya
February 28th, 2010, 09:15 pm

M
February 28th, 2010, 09:20 pm
Erm... If my ability to reason properly still makes sense, I think that would be a part of any; ergo General Chat.

Just note that the term Cosplay to the English audience will draw a lot of Anime and Game attention, so you might want to title the thread something different, but that's up to you.

So yeah, I've been getting this message lately, and it keeps on blocking me from posting/getting on the forums sometimes. It's something about a missing "security token."

Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

I tried researching it, but the jargon didn't make it past my brain . Is there any way that you know of that might be able to fix this?

aznanimedude

M
April 4th, 2010, 03:44 pm
Actually, if that's occurring during login or posting, that'd be a new one for us to put on the list. Although, I'm pretty sure it's the same problem.

A quick (and broken) fix for that is to use the "Ichigos Blue New" theme. That fixes all security token issues, but that theme doesn't support our spolier tags at this moment.

Sirius
April 5th, 2010, 01:29 am
Other security token instances: when I tried to get on my own profile, when I try to go "Advanced" with my posts.

M: I was using Ichigo's New Blue when this happened. With that in mind, I tried using the regular Ichigo's Blue theme. So far, it's working out just fine. I know that it was unintended, but thanks for the solution. ^^

Well, I think the mod's are getting jipped in the avatar category >:(

And that's a very abnormal problem. Can you upload the avatar to another site such as Imageshack (www.imageshack.us) or photobucket (www.photobucket)? If you can, you can put the direct link URL they provide in the first option field. This /should/ work, as that's what I've just tested.

Are you using Internet Explorer 8? There's a problem with how IE8 handles Adobe's PDFs right now if ActiveX is blocked such that doesn't properly open a PDF in the browser without first opening Adobe Acrobat. The only solution is to save the file and then opening the file manually if you're experiencing this problem, which is what Han just described.

Saving the file directly to your computer should always work so long as you have the right program to open the file -- e.g. Adobe Acrobat Reader (http://get.adobe.com/reader/) or FoxIt Reader (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/) -- and that you feed that program the file in question -- running acrobat and then selecting File -> Open -> [select-file].

I've tested the video tags in the four major broswers (Chrome, IE, Firefox, Opera) and they all work, but I noticed that IE takes longer when you have an antivirus installed, and Opera loads the entire page first and then steps downwards after completion to fill in the video blanks.

Perhaps we could ask someone to modify the tag to post a link to the video directly beneath the embedded object to help people on slower/filtered connections?

Try uninstalling Firefox then reinstalling it? Maybe your installation got messed up.

I'm not a computer expert. Anyway, my ideas are a firefox add-on, an ff browser setting (or cookie), or a background process somehow interfering. A fourth possibility is a flash setting or flash cookie (http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html). I don't know what you have and haven't tried yet, so my apologies if you've already looked into all of those. =|

For a final short-circuit, can you identify which of the below you can and cannot see?

embed tag test:

or

iframe test:

or

or

M, you should have added an anchor link code when you were an admin. I have been interested to try them for extensive posts with information. I think it could be useful for special cases.

Anchors are dangerous to give users free reign on, as there's no policing the term used (it's essentially a <span id="value"></span>). For example, I could write a tag that would perform an anchor in some page such as text, and it be understood as a valid bb tag by vB, but when a user goes directly to post 472803, it would result in showing the first anchor matching that reference of those two. Thus, it would break "go to latest post" and threaded deep linking.

I was not referring to the jump from one post to another by using an anchor link. More like pointing you to a specific paragraph of your own single post rather than going to other posts.

What you have described and what I have described are one in the same. The only difference is an example of usage. What I provided shows how it would break the forum's functionality if used in a particular way. Since there is no way to guard the usage of the tag, and by the general policy of "don't break things during development", it's too dangerous to create.

M I can see all of them. Even the video.
I think its when people are doing [*youtube][*/youtube]. eg, in the 'Instruments of the other kind' thread.

The youtube tag is just an object tag (the first entry). If you can see the first entry, then your browser is just fine and it's a network latency issue.

So, I don't know why, but when I try to download a file someone has attached to their post, it is saved as an unknown file type instead of what it actually is (like a .pdf since we're dealing with music sheets). Is it just because I'm a new member and can't download attached files yet? Or am I just doing something wrong? I looked in the FAQ and searched the forums for any kind of answer, but I didn't see anything pertaining to this.

Try typing the original format when you are saving it: ".pdf, .mp3, .mid, etc". Or open it in your browser and click "File > Save Page As/Save As".

Crazy Sapphire

I had tried that, but it still couldn't read the file. Which is why I then came to ask, since all the little tricks I know didn't work. ):

Is it just happening with one file or many? If it is one, can you link me?

It might be all of them, but I was mainly trying the ones I found here: link (http://forums.ichigos.com/showthread.php?12478-Kateikyoushi-Hitman-Reborn!-music-sheets!he&p=437437&viewfull=1#post437437)

What is the unknown extension file you are getting? Do you have adobe reader (http://get.adobe.com/reader/) installed?

I checked the files and all of them worked to me. Try to download them from a different browser.

Crazy Sapphire

Yes, I have adobe reader, and when I downloaded it with google chrome it worked. =/ And usually firefox is better than this. Well, it's not that much of a bother to use google chrome to save the files if firefox is going to be a pain about it.
Thanks for helping me!

I downloaded the files through Firefox. The only recommendation I can say is to re-install or update your Firefox.

You can also check Firefox support forum if you are still interested to solve your problem:

i have a small problem with the site as of now, i keep getting logged out, randomly, i'll be browsing the forums, seeing if anything new is going on, and all of a sudden, i go to post, and i'm logged out, when not five minutes before i was logged in. any ideas on what would cause that or how to fix it, or is it just a site bug?

When you log in, do you check "remember me"? You don't have to check this for the forums to work, I'm just curious.

I do have remember me checked, and it looks like the cookie's expiration reflects this.

sometimes i do, sometimes i dont, but the outcome is always the same, i get randomly logged off, when i just logged on, either way, ive tested it at different locations too, and it does the same thing.
