There have been a lot of "tech help" threads floating around, and I get quite a few PMs asking about simple requests, so I'm starting a tech "helpdesk" thread. Here's how it works:

Let's say you don't know how something works on the forums. First read the FAQ (http://forums.ichigos.com/index.php?act=boardrules) and the on-line IPB help (http://forums.ichigos.com/index.php?act=Help). If your question is not answered there, read through this thread to make sure noone has answered your question before.

If your question still hasn't been answered, post it here. If you know the answer to someone's question, quote it and provide the answer. If noone answers your question, you may bump it by quoting only once. If it still is not answered, that means that nobody knows the answer.

To keep this thread clean, please keep this thread to Q/A only; discussion, suggestions and other feedback have their own threads, and extraneous posts will be deleted. Thanks, and enjoy your stay at the Helpdesk!

speaking of which, why not start a tech help forum, for help with technology and such?

What are "avs"?

I agree with Sinbios that there should be such a forum.

Waaah, what's going on with the underline tags?

http://forums.ichigos.com/index.php?showto...indpost&p=89831 (http://forums.ichigos.com/index.php?showtopic=1960&view=findpost&p=89831)

Spiky's been having the same problem doing missions in the Metropolis.

<you>test</you>

And when I just posted that, it replaced the underline tags I typed with this:

<you>test</you> and it didn't come up underlined.

And then on second edit it's actually showing those <you> tags in the post now, when I first posted it just said "test" with no underline.

Oddness!

Another test as Spiky says it's fixed itself...

Ahh, so it has! So what was that, then?

Edit: Problem solved - Angelic said someone was fiddling with the word filters ;)

I was trying to get rid of some of the "AOL speek" by filtering u to you... it was SUPPOSED to only match " u " (with spaces around it) but I guess not X_X

You can't any more. It got taken down as everyone was discussing it and spamming just so they had more posts than other people (I think...correct if I', congused people!)

random_tangent is right, you can't check. The ability to check other's postcount was disabled from the beginning, and after a while we disabled the ability to see your own postcount because people were posting their counts.

And don't worry about it, the limit is an arbitrary number that's not too high, so you'll get there eventually just by being part of the forums. The only thing Members get over New Members is one extra forum, so it's not like your account is going to be deleted or anything like that.

whats this supposed to mean?

Yoshinobu
February 10th, 2005, 05:01 pm
*this should be in "Site Announcements and Feedback"*

It means that you have to change the file type. You can see what kind of file it is by looking at the file extension= .JPG or .GIF for example. You're using a file type which isn't allowed, so change it in a graohics program to one you're allowed to use.

You can't upload BMPs to Ichigos - they're usually too big. Open it in paint, and go to the File menu and click "Save as" - there's a little drop down menu underneath the box where you type your filename. Click that dropdown menu and select either *.JPEG/*.JPG, *.PNG, or *.GIF - PNG is the best quality one but if your resulting file size is over 50kb you'll have to change it to JPG, as Ichigos doesn't allow you to upload an avatar over 50kb :)

You can't. You need up upload it to a hosting service such as photobucket.com. Also, you'll need to convert it to a supported format, such as JPG or GIF.

Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 20 KB.

You can use a program, like Adobe Photoshop, to lower the quality (less colo res.) and you'd able to resize it to make it smaller.

Neko Koneko

because BMP is uncompressed (unlike GIF, PNG and JPG) and for that reason way bigger than the same file would be in JPG or GIF format.

RD
June 27th, 2005, 03:21 am
I did. Thats why you make it the right size when you make it. Like for the ava's, I used to use a 200x200/300x300 pixle area, so I had more room. But then it shrinks and becomes blocky, so I just use 100x100 now...

But for the sig, I dont know. Maybe its how you make it, or the file type. I use .jpg, what do you Ghnomie?

If you use Paint, that's the problem. Paint saves .jpg in very low quality. Programs like photoshop let you save in higher quality, reducing the fuzzyness of the picture.

I actually start by making them the actual size I want first, I don't just shrink it proportionately later on. But oh, well. I'm happy enough with my new set. :P Btw, I use .jpg, as well. I believe it's a necessity, as .bmp doesn't work here.

Attachments work for me now, but when I try to open an MP3/MIDI, it fails to open within IE and only functions if I opt to save it to my hard drive. This is a huge hassle for me, as my computer is terribly slow at retrieving files and opening directories! Does anyone know how to revert it to how it used to be before the vBulletin conversion? It never used to prompt whether or not I'd like to open or save a file, and I liked it like that. How do I change this back?!

Edit: After having consulted Gand on the matter, he claimed it was client-side. In other words, it's something on my computer that I have to change. Does anyone know where such a setting is?

This is the lone reason for my lack of participation in the compositions forum of late, and I regret that deeply, but it is simply too much of a hindrance for me to be able to post feedback like I used to.

I can't rememebr how to do this is IE, but in FF or Opera you can choose what happens for certain types of files. For example, when I click a MID file, it pops up a box asking if I want to open or save it. If I choose Open, it opens up in the associated program (winamp). I looked around IE but I can't find where it might be...

yea, its gone... I'll bump the topic i made a long time ago about the guidelines to requesting sheet music.

Some people's advatars are bigger than specifications. The problem is, i tried uploading a 101 x 101 and it says limited to 100 x 100. So how can some members have advatars that are 400 x 400 or etc.

Neko Koneko

As been said before (several times), if you uploaded an avatar that was too big on invision board, it would automatically resize it for you, so some avatars that were uploaded on invision are actually too big and vbulletin doesn't resize them anymore.

it could be a referrer thing, or a number of other problems. Your best bet is to save the image to your computer (right click, save image as) then upload that as your avatar.

no prob... right click on the image and save it, say, to your desktop. Then go into your profile, and click Edit Avatar. Scroll to the bottom where there is a box that says "Upload an Avatar From Your Computer:" and click the Choose button. Find the image that you just saved, select it and hit OK. Then click Save Changes at the bottom and you're set ^_^

You need at least 1 character or it will complain. If it's not letting your for some reason (like a quote or something), just add "x" or something like that at the end and you shoulnd't have a problem. There's no way to completely disable it.

You must be using Internet Explorer.

I got those errors a long time ago and I couldn't figure out how to stop them from comming, so I disabled them in entirity.

If you have Windows Service Pack One:
Tools->Internet Options…->Advanced | check the box [..] Disable Script Debugging

If you have Windows Serice Pack Two:

Tools->Internet Options…->Advanced | Check the box [..] Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer)
and
Tools->Internet Options…->Advanced | Check the box [..] Disable Script Debugging (other)

It should be turned off by default, but somehow your's must have turned itself on (windows is like that sometimes).

The former could save a little bit of trouble in looking up the color of the speaker (as well as allowing someone to change the color of everything that speaker said, if such a change were necessary for administrative reasons), and the latter might be nice for casual readers (like me :P) who are unwilling to go and look up every single ability name that gets shouted out in battle (especially since there are many abilities that aren't in English or easily Anglicized).

But maybe this would be better as custom BBCode?

Why, in the "contact" section, when I try to send a transcription, it's written : "The message was not sent ?"

Thanks by advance,

Ichigo's isn't currently accepting transcriptions right now. Although, it may be because the site recently changed its layout, so there's probably still some bugs.

first reason was correct. it gives the reason the message was not sent right below:

Ichigo's is not currently accepting transcription submissions from the public. However, the Sheet Music Request forum on Ichigo's Forums is always looking for active transcribers.

I tried to post a new thread and got some message about "... your post will be invisible..." and browser redirected back to forum so fast that I had to go back twice to understand why was my message treated so badly :) Hope it wasn't posted 3 times.

I understand the measure, it's good against spam. But I think that the pause should be longer for such important messages, at least 5 seconds. By the way, I don't remember reading anything about this in rules.

As long as you put it in a reply everyone will know. You do know about the button at the top of the page 'new posts' don't you? If not give it a try.

Is it just me, or does the Search button on the top of the page does the same thing as the New Post button?

Works for me on Firefox, Opera, and IE. I'd clean out your browser internet cache and try again (funky stuff is saved there sometimes).

It's my Opera - Ichigo's works fine on my Firefox. Also, clearing out the cache did not fix the problem.

Also, .gif's are not playing at all on all of my browsers, but I guess that's another question on another thread. Thankfully I can still access the Search function via http://forums.ichigos.com/search.php?

please change the title of this thread (mine)

Thanks
and uh... would it be too troublesome for a mod to change the title every few days? (since i constantly upload new transcribtions_

Generally, we'll allow double posting in your own thread, as long as it's updating the stuff that in in there (ie. New transcriptions). And, I suspect that the Global Mods have better things to do than check if you've updated your thread so they can change the title.

M

Enormously tedious would be the best descriptor. Unless someone wants to pick up that task, I don't think renaming the thread every few days is going to happen.

And multiple posting with good reason is allowed (ie posting new transcriptions/compositions after a duration of time without replies). Just make sure you use your head when doing it. Ask yourself "Does this really need the extra post with a bump, or could it make do with an edit?"

How come the links of my posts (to navigate through my long thread @_@ ) don't work? It would make it easier...

http://forums.ichigos.com/showthread.php?t=8060&page=23

I'm referring to the first post of this page, after the words "Current List".

M

That'd be because the url target is literally http://forums.ichigos.com/showpost.p...&postcount=221

Those dots are right in the URL target, which will lead you to nowhere. Try right clicking the valid post links and selecting copy link location rather than copy, or use the vB tag for linking to posts (ie globalPostNumber)

clarinetist

I did notice that, but when I paste the link (Copy>Paste) and post it up, it adds the dots  . Is there a way to stop this from happening? It even happens when I type it manually...

I've done the copy link location, but I never heard of the post number code... I'll try it.

Just remember that it's the global number and not the thread post number (for instance this post number is not 237, rather 327249). You can find the number by looking at the link for the local post number (highlight 236 and look at the link text). Right after the ? there is p="number"&pos that's the number you're looking for.

So to link to this post I would type 327249.
That gives...

327249

It's a little technical, but it looks cleaner than long url formatting.

Have you tried a refresh of the page after making the edits?

Oh... I see the problem. The new link must be opened in a new tab/window for some reason. If I try to access the link through the same window where I clicked the link, it won't work. (If this seems confusing, what I mean is:

*After I click the link, I must open a new window.

The following will not work:

*Open the new link in a new tab/window.
*Use that same tab/window to open another link at that same post.

But I doubt I'll ever need to do it :P .

Opening in the same window and a new tab works just fine on my side. (firefox)

Um... Scuse me.
I'm having trouble getting everyone to upload my sets from my set shop mainly because everyone is getting confused with how to put up sigs without using personal image upload. In addition no one is reading my instruction or maybe they're just too confusing.

If it's not too much trouble can an Admin/Mod please post a pinned thread with clear instructions for newbies and older members regarding how to put up sets?

The easiest and fastest way is to use the signature image upload section of the user profile. Click Profile, then Edit Signature, then look at the bottom where it says "Upload Signature Picture". Click Browse and find your signature file. You don't have to mess with an image host or uploading it anywhere.

edit: updated the signature sizes of the upload to match the sizes in the rules

Eternal
February 6th, 2007, 03:41 am
Um so now the signature size for the image uploads are the same and it's also 50k now right? 500x120~

Thank you Gand :)

We should make a Narutard group, throw all Naruto fans in there and ban them from the anime forums.
