I need to know all the DDR Obsessors out there. I'm one of them. But anyway, I just want to know how good all of you are, if you have any vids, that kind of stuff. Oh ya, post scores!!! I'll start:

04.03.04
(1) i feel... (Heavy 9) - B
(2) Kakumei (Heavy 9) - A
(3) Rhythm and Police (Heavy 9) - B

I'm a DDR freak as well. My mom won't let me play that much since she's afraid I'll slip and fall. Anyways, I can't get past Standard becuase I've only played about 5 or 6 times. Used to play Stepmania as well.

I've never heard if that song. I've never seen it on the latest we have (DDR Extreme). I'll be on the lookout.

its probably on one of the old ones...since its kind of an old song...."heart of sword" is the ending song for rurouni kenshin

Here are some new scores I got:

04.05.04
(1) Kakumei (Oni [8]) - AA
(2) Rhythm and Police (Heavy [9]) - B
(3) Sakura (Heavy [10]) - D

I'm really trying to get level 10 songs, but it's really difficult. What do you think is the easiest level 10 song?

M
April 7th, 2004, 12:41 pm
DDR is by far the best game. I have mastered the second edition (I don't remeber the name but it is for the PS1), in its enitrity. My bests are

AA on Dive
AAA on .59

michael
April 8th, 2004, 09:46 am

keith
April 11th, 2004, 07:39 pm

michael
April 11th, 2004, 08:27 pm

I have DDR at my house and I can pass any 9 foot songs and I have passed 10 (eg max 300 and max unlimitid, but I can't pass them all of the time)

michael
April 11th, 2004, 08:43 pm
What kind of pad do you have at home?

kage no tenshi
April 11th, 2004, 08:48 pm
we have two red octain pads but one of them stopped working and the up button doesn't work on the other one. we need to get new ones.

michael
April 11th, 2004, 08:50 pm
Do you know anyone who owns the metal ones at home?

kage no tenshi
April 11th, 2004, 09:04 pm
no but I really want to get them and my parents were concidering buying them for christmas until we told them the price

michael
April 11th, 2004, 11:16 pm
What would be considered a good price for the metal pads? I always wanted to buy one because my pad keeps slipping and stuff, even though I made some modifications. I pretty much taped it to a piece of wood, but it still doesn't work too well for me.

kage no tenshi
April 12th, 2004, 01:39 am
I don't know what a good price would be but they cost ove 100 dollars american

keith
April 12th, 2004, 01:43 am
the best way to keep ur pad there is putting it on top of a carpet that way the surface is not smooth since u use wood it will still move so the way i did is i pur card board to make it more solid and i dance on top of a carpet and it works oh and the metal ones whats soo special about them i've seen ads for it but i dont see whats so special about it

kage no tenshi
April 12th, 2004, 01:49 am
The metal pads probably last longer

I had these thin ones that where like 1 cm thick (less that half an inch) and after about 6 months of using them the backs are all torn of and only the up button on one works and the right button on the other

then we got these ones that were like 5 cm thick (2 inchs) and we had them for a year and then the up button on one stopped working and then 1 month later the other just stopped working and they cost $250 anerican

at my house we need better matts because we play over 3 hours a day and my little brothers can pass 9 foot songs and me and my older brother can pass 10 foot songs so they wear out really fast

keith
April 12th, 2004, 02:16 am
wow ur crazy :? well that was me kindda but i cant play anymore cause my ps1's power thingy is lost so i cant get my ps1 to start so no ddr for me which sux!!!

April 12th, 2004, 02:30 am
you could always go play at the arcade , that is what me and my older brother used to do and we still go to play DDR extreme even though it costs alot. before we had DDR at home we used to spend $20.00 at the arcade every week lol.

keith
April 12th, 2004, 02:33 am
u live in niagra falls right? so my guess is u use the 5th mix i think thats the one in this arcade place right? i remember going there once and i was with some friends and i danced for like an hour and ya it was fun

We have DDR competitions at our school. Then again, I go to a college. But it really sucks there, so we usually go to tournaments at an arcade nearby.

sakura
April 12th, 2004, 09:35 am
I love DDR!!! I play on the "Oni" level (9-10 footers). The best I have ever done on a song is getting a AA on Sakura by RevenG. My next best would be a AAA on Paranoia Rebirth.

kage no tenshi
April 12th, 2004, 04:33 pm
wow you are so good sakura, I can sometimes do 10 but I never get AA's or AAA's on anyting

servbot
April 12th, 2004, 04:51 pm
argh when I was playing Sakura I lost my combo on the third last arrow. argh I was upset

I did V on Oni on Dark and got an AA
here's a different type of accomplishment. I got a B on bag, but it was on 1X mode.

Today's scores...

04.12.04
(1) Sakura (Oni 9) - C
(2) Rhythm and Police (Heavy 9) - A
(3) Sakura (Heavy 10) - Failed

I wish I had more money to play today... <_<

keith

Hey Micheal better question did u have a big crowd staring at u when u were dancing?

Digi Idol
April 13th, 2004, 07:48 pm
I like many DDR songs but I kinda favor MAXX UNLIMITED. I usually get B's on Light. I L0VE Afronova's steps on Standard but the song is.. weird-ish. For warm-ups, I always choose Love at First Sight on Heavy. Extremely easy.. ^_^

michael
April 13th, 2004, 11:59 pm
I always have a crowd. :P

Ok, imagine a guy in a red uniform that says "Pretzel and Malasada Co." on it, khaki pants, and bulging pockets. Oh ya, not to mention his long, bright, blue hair. Also, he's not exactly in shape, so it looks weird to see a fat man on the pad. Oh ya, he's also wearing shoes with holes in it, and his pants has patches sewn in due to wear...

Getting the picture? I don't know if people watch because how I look (I wear my crapiest clothes to work) or because of my dancing skills (which isn't great to being with).

Today's scores:
04.13.04
(1) Sakura (Oni 9) - A
(2) Abyss (Heavy 7) - AAA
(3) Sakura (Heavy 10) - Failed

I don't think I'll ever get Sakura on Heavy... arg. <_<

servbot

I wish I could play daily. The machine is across town, and my home pads are destroyed :(

I LOOOOOOVE Heaven is a '57 Metallic Grey. It's an amazing song. I have to play it everytime. I love playing the more complicated steps, like Orion.78 AMeuro mix, Sana, My Summer Love and Witch Doctor.

Fun double songs: A, V, Candy [Star]

michael
April 14th, 2004, 05:52 pm
I seriously wish I could play as well as you guys...

Today's scores:
04.14.04
(1) Tsuguru (Heavy 9 ) - A
(2) Candy (Luv Unlimited) (Heavy 8) - AAA
(3) Sakura (Heavy 10) - Failed

This song is REALLY pissing me off.

You're a lot better than when I was here before. You had a hard time getting a C on Holic at the time.

Today's scores:
04.14.04
(1) Sakura (Heavy 10) - A
(2) Paranoia Survivor (Heavy 10) - B

I can't go play until the weekend, but I'm gonna have to play a whole bunch.

My first song (alone) was Ever Snow on Light. Failed it halfway. I spent $20 the first day I was addicted, but by then I already mastered light mode. I spent the next 2 weeks on standard, and eventually got myself to heavy.

oh man, i don't care about scoring HIGH anymore =) i go freestyling all the way now, so much more fun~ i still have to get to the point where i can drop to my knees and hit them with it >.< not fast enuf  but i have this thing where my friend drops back and uses his bum and hits the back arrow =) oh yeah that's really fun~ i spin a lot and do the running man too~! and then do handstands grabbing the bar, and also roundoffs off the pad if there aren't too many ppl crowded around...too much fun~ good thing it's on campus =)

I know how you feel, but there's a "DDR Technical Extreme Tournament" coming up. Basically, if you score anything below AA, you're out. So I have to practice to get perfect scores.

Today's additional scores:
04.14.04
(1) Candy (Heavy 8) - AA
(2) My Summer Love (Heavy 9) - A
(3) Rhythm and Police (Heavy 9) - B

I got inspired to play DDR when I saw a 7 year old boy playing Paranoia Survivor MAX on heavy (he looked really funny playing it). Since then, I've been struggling to pass it. Heh, strange having an 8 year old kid as a role model.

Paranoia Max is not so bad as compared to the other Paranoias. For me, other than Paranoia Survivor, Paranoia Rebirth is a b**ch to pass. I can never complete it for some reason.

It took me a while to get pass MAX300 on Standard. The freeze arrows really throw me off. I can't even come close to passing it on Heavy. Sakura, on the other hand, can get an A when she feels like it, and a AA when she tries. <_<

that's always the best fun though. Sight reading a song. I don't do new songs very often so I always have the pleasure of trying new ones :P

I got a question for everyone. Do you alter the speed on every song? I mean do you set it to 1.5X or 2X out of habit. I always play on 1X. I used to do bag on 1.5X but I've overcome that ^_^

Jkim890
April 22nd, 2004, 02:27 pm

While we're talking about specific songs, you need to try Waka Laka and Witch Doctor. They are both 8 feet but I think they could be 9. Waka Laka has a lot of jumps, and Witch Doctor has a complicated rhythm, but they are both such cool songs

Jkim890
April 23rd, 2004, 03:00 pm
Freestyling is hard for me. Scoring is pretty easy for me though (manages to get perfects 90% of the time on a familiar song with feet, 95% marvelouses with keys). I can never hit something with my hands of knees and get up in time... unless it's a song on Light  . And yeah, I agree with Souma. Seeing people freestyle is much more fun than seeing them hit ever arrow perfectly.

My best double song would be A or V on challenge. Double requires a LOT more movement, and you need to shift your centre of gravity. Double is also a lot crazier to watch.

I don't really like the tournament setting either. I don't agree with the concept of beating people, or "losing"

I play because it's fun, and that's why we play games right?

My friend did a presentation on Japanese culture in grade 7, and he brought in his japanese DDR for PlayStation, that's where I played and failed my first song. I thought it was the coolest game in the world.

EDIT: There is indeed a DDR "Dance-a-thon" at Anime North. I guess I missed it last time I checked the site (or they just updated it recently)

now I'm really excited

also, I played DDR yesterday, I don't have letter grades because habitually I don't look at them.

A - Challenge (one boo)
Waka Laka - Heavy (missed a couple)
Witch Doctor - (two goods)

Heaven is a '57 metallic grey - Heavy (combo)
Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) - Heavy (one boo)
Sakura - Heavy (about 8 good/boo/miss)

(Double)
Waka Laka - Heavy - C
V - Challenge - D
my friend took the last song

I tried V (for Extreme) last night. I got a C.

We have 5 DDR machines in Niagara Falls

a DDR EXTREME machine at the theatre (with memory slot)
a DDR EXTREME machine at the Skylon Tower (pads are crap)

there's two major arcades near the falls
one has a DDRUSA (ewww) and a DDR EXTREME machine (5 songs for 3 tokens!!!!!!!!!!)
the other arcade has a 5th mix machine (4 songs/3 tokens)

so if you're ever in the area you have a lot of choice

You'll have to understand that a 10 is MUCH harder than a 9.

The difficulty of a ten is about the difficult of a nine to the power of three (in my professional mathematical opinion)

I just pulled those numbers out of the air, but a 10 is something completely different

today I played while waiting to get picked up from work

I don't know what the song is called because it's in japanese - B
Heaven is a '57 Metallic Grey - A
Paranoia Survivor - B
(Ever since I could pass that song I LOOOVE playing it)

and for an extra twist I played with no shoes on, since I had dress shoes (Well, I tried dancing with dress shoes for the first song)

some people are so inconsiderate *hmph*

I'm used to another person dancing beside me; I usually go to the arcade with friends and we play together, and usually are on a different difficulty. If I am playing alone though, I'm fine with people shadowing me. Then you get those people that just jump on and make a stupid scene while you're in the middle of dancing, basically making fun of you.

I was hoping to go play today, but I don't see it happening (but I got a job at a place right near the arcade ^^

if it's not a problem, I suggest duct taping it to a piece of plywood, or just duct tape it right to the floor. If the plywood is really big, you can tape the pad to the plywood, then weigh down the plywood with some large books (or something like that)

michael
July 4th, 2004, 05:40 pm
Do I have to cut the pad or anything?

servbot
July 5th, 2004, 06:27 am
nope. If it's a soft pad, you can just tape down the edges

it also ensures that the pad doesn't bend on the buttons, which ends up being damaging

michael

If you want Cobalt Flux, the official best pads in the world, you can order them online (a pair of them, w/ bars and the doubles kit free) for (If I remember correctly,) up to $600 USD (plus shipping to Hawaii might be hefty)

michael
July 6th, 2004, 07:31 am
Ouch... Do you think it would be worth it?

servbot
July 6th, 2004, 07:55 am
I'm thinking about getting them. I've got it easy because I'm still a kid and have almost no expenses ^_^
Also, I could get my sister to pitch in, since she's also a DDR freak ^_^

Well, you'd basically have an arcade platform at home. You'd never have to play for quality dancing again. The problems are that it's only for PS2 (in case you have XBOX DDR) and you only have the songs that are on the home versions

I recommend that you give it some time to think about it (and save up ^_^) Also, you should wait until the next PS2 mix comes out. You can see what new songs will be available, and if it's worth it at that point.

EDIT: after checking out the Cobalt Flux website (http://www.cobaltflux.com) a doubles kit costs 579.99 USD, and they ship to Alaska and Hawaii ^_^

Do you guys play with the freeze arrows on or off? I play with off cuz the freeze arrows screw up even if I stay on them.

servbot
August 26th, 2004, 04:59 am
I play with freeze arrows on because it improves your score

*Quick Lesson on Scoring*

your letter grade is based on a score. the score is determined my the the accuracy of each step (your amount of perfects, boos, greats etc)

here's how it works

Marvellous = 3 points*
Perfect = 2 points
Great = 1 point
Good = 0 points
Boo = -? points (I forget right now :sweatdrop: )
Miss = -8 points O.o
O.K. = 6 points
N.G. = 0 points
(* Marvellous only applies to Nonstop/Oni Courses)

Each song has a maximum possible score (lets say a song has 300 steps and 2 freezes, then the max score is 612 points)

Letter grading works like this:
AAA = 100%
AA = >93%
A = >80%
B = <80%

I don't remember exactly where C and D fit in, but you get an E if you fail (your dance meter runs out)

Anyways, the important thing is, if you play without freezes, then you don't get deducted any points, but you also can't get a perfect score. Score-wise, you've got nothing to lose by playing with freezes, except a lost freeze hurts your dance meter.

*Tip for Freezes*

If your freezes aren't holding for you (I know it's harder to hold on arcade pads than home mats) something I apply to long freezes is bouncing on the arrow. Not actually jumping up and down, but just shifting your weight on and off the pad) Since you only come off the freeze for a split second, it doesn't give you an NG. It doesn't always work in the middle of fast areas, but if you're just holding a long freeze it never fails

DDR is so NOT popular here  I think only Asians and Americans like stuff like that, over here you never see people playing it. Then again, we don't have many arcades around here either  but games like that never receive high scores in magazines and they are known to generally not sell very well.

DDR's a good game, but it really wears you out if you're not used to it.
Our anime club got to go on a run yesterday, but unfortunately, the only arcade in town that has the game only has one of them, verses our 30 some members. I really liked "Butterfly," but it was too fast for me. ^^; *failed a lot*

I'm gonna buy it when I get a ps2. There's an arcade near me at the mall. There's always a line of people waiting to play, so they put benches in there and put it in a separate room. I've never played it before because I'd be embarassed since I've never played before. <_<

DDR:
favorites:
Healing Vision Angelic Heavy (9) - A (4 missed)
So Deep Heavy (9) - A (364 combo)
scores: A or AA on all PS2 DDRMAX songs (Heavy) besides MAX300 (failed that one, but haven't tried it again for about a year...I think I can pass it now)

ITG:
Charlene Expert (11) - B/C
Queen of Light Expert (10) - A
Tribal Style Expert (10) - A
Oasis Expert (10) - B (just yesterday ^^)
Bend Your Mind Expert (10) - B (just yesterday ^^)
Delirium Expert (12) - FAIL (but it's so fun :P)
Caddywhompus Normal (8 Marathon) - pass (can't remember, but I had a 735 combo...)

EDIT: I played DDR Mario Mix the other day at Fry's, and I must say, I'm thoroughly depressed...PLEASE say the songs get harder than that...

they do get harder than that, you just need to unlock them in super hard. to unlock them, you gotta have the song on very hard. then, all you do is complete the song in very hard and viola. B)

but i gotta agree with you,the only challenge on that game is bowsers castle, all the other songs arent that hard on oni......... but its still a fun game. ^^

I. Suck. At. DDR. T____T So hard. xD I've only played it twice, because each time I made a fool of myself. Har. Oh well. I'm sure I would enjoy it if I was good at it. I like some of the songs though.

I've been outta practice, but i just got DDR Extreme2. Cartoon heros is hard..broke combo 3 times. Managed to barely scrape an A in paranoia survivor, still no A in paranoia survivor MAX.

the more conventional favorites of mine:
Max300 - AA
Healing vision (angelic mix) - A
Dynamite rave (original) - AA
Afronova (original) - AA
Max Unlimited - A
So deep (MAX2) - A (broke combo once)

The thing I don't like about DDR Extreme 2 is that in training mode, slowing down the songs makes the song silent, no music. Slowing down songs sounds horrible but most songs sound very funny when slowed. In the original DDR me and my friends still get a laugh from setting dynamite rave to speed 1 and hearing "COOOMMMMMEEEE OOOOOOONNN, EEEEEVVVVERYBBBBOOOODDDDDY..."

Very interesting method of unlocking songs though. a shop.

Charlene Expert A-
Bend Your Mind Expert Double B

I played on my friends PSP and I had to say its kinda different. A on Break Down heavy. I wish I could give you guys my scores for Stepmania. Recent achievement I cleared Rythm and Police on Heavy. Of course that was when I had someone playing on light to keep me alive. Now I'm working on acing it.

I love DDR even though I totally suck at it it is still great fun ^_^
I get addicted to the music, even though sime of it can be pretty weird.....LOL sometimes I get something like Holic stuck in my head for weeks....I don't mind though cuz it's a great song! Ever since I got stepmania I've been begging my brother to take me to the mall so I could do DDR.....no I'm not as good as some others but I'm okay and the jumping up and down makes me sooo hyper! I think it's my new addiction......maybe....possibly....I don't know.......

DDR rules, I play for exercise in the morning :)

Stepmania as well as DDRMax and Max2 and Extreme on PS2

I have also built a lot of my own pads haha. Had some experience with soft pads / plastic whatever ones and didn't like them. Had to make my own metal ones :)

I can beat Max300 heavy but I haven't tried the other maxes yet.

Exotic Ethnic heavy is a favorite of mine, both for the exercise and for the showoff factor haha.

I don't always play with shoes though... my stamina gets cut to a third with shoes...

Thinking about getting a drum set for drummania, or maybe a controller for beatmania iidx.

Go go bemani
