I think we should have a new skin, kinda change how to site looks every once in a while. Or at least a new banner at the top

I don't think there will be any new skins, at least not for a while. Maybe after we upgrade to Invision board 2.0 or something

Release a BULK EMAIL to regain your members back.

Paradox
September 11th, 2004, 05:02 pm
and what would this BULK EMAIL be used for?

not spam i hope

Spoonpuppet
September 11th, 2004, 05:15 pm
If it's a "bulk email" to old members, saying "hey, you haven't been on in a while, come back", I don't know if that's a good idea.

Nightmare
September 11th, 2004, 06:23 pm
Not to mention that you couldn't target old members by themselves, but everyone in the forum would have to get it.

Neko Koneko

You're wrong there Nightmare, IPB has some pretty advanced mailing options (unlike phoBB XP )

I dunno - people probably would've left for a reason and wouldn't really appreciate it. They would've given their emails on the basis that it would only be used to contact them in the event of a rules violation or if they lost their password. I'm not sure if they'd really want to receive emails from the board after they had left.

I think there should be an upload option in the sheet music requests section... And perhaps one in the music discussion section, as long as it doesn't allow MP3's or something like that. It'd allow us to discuss pieces we upload or at least upload sheets we find for the sheet music requests...

:) Just an idea!

I also think it would be a good idea to add the upload ability in the Sheet music requests section but I don't really agree with the music discussion thread.

EDIT:

Would it also be possible to add a "Report this thread" option located somewhere within each thread? This would be very useful, in my opinion.

Is there some way to make people notice the link to Ichigos more. Like blow it up or something. I don't see how people can request something without knowing its on ichigos.

Honestly, how do they even get to the forums withotu going to the main site anyway(or at lest knowing about it)?

Spice things up a bit. I'd suggest some contests every now and then. It could be monthly contests with different subjects. I don't know, but you get the idea. It doesn't have to be one of those "Kindest member, Most active member" sort of thing. It could be about writing poetry, drawing, or something else. It is also important to pin it, so it will be more appealing and interesting to participate in, so it doesn't get to be a thread doomed to oblivion after a few days. X_X

Something like the CMA we have each month, but for other things?

You must convince members to return.

If you don't want to try.

We can continue watching members here slip away.

5-13 users online at a time is not fine, I think this forum can do a lot better.

Obviously, with the amount of members you have, not many have stuck around.

So you think members will leave because we don't have a big amount of online users at the same time? That's stupid. Sorry, but it is. Personally, I think those big forums are way more boring than this. They are often filled with members who post crap and then leave, and then others sign up and do the very same thing.

and if we cut down the members list down to the ones who actually do turn up once in a while.. we'd have less than 100..

You should be able to get at least 25-30 users online at a time, mainly at night.

Noir7
September 17th, 2004, 01:48 pm
I'm against that. Sure, it would be cool to have once, but it would just cause more of the regular members to leave, because they would feel left out. It would also be tougher to keep up with the posting.

I wouldn't like this forum to become anything like for example animesuki, they have lots of members but the whole place sucks.

Gand
September 17th, 2004, 05:25 pm
or *cough* animescores *cough* XD

but seriously, sending out some "come baaaaack" email is silly, people will come and go. School has been starting for people, so it's been a bit slower lately. This trend is apparent on the site stats as well as the forums. And even with this happening, we certaintly aren't hurting for active members.

What do you define as 'night'?

There's a lot people from different places here and given the split of active members there would be at least two times that would be considered night.

Also, I too have been to large forums (some with at least 1000 members on at a time) and they really are horrible. It stops becoming a community. I think right now Ichigos is just about the perfect size. There's always some activity and there's room for growth but there's not so many new members coming at a time that we can't get to know them and that it floods the forum with posts and alienates the core members.

"should"? to achieve what? according to what standard? The Standard Allowed Size For Internet Forums Act?

forums should generally stay on the smaller side rather than become big lousy places like the MT forums. in fact, ichigo's is already swinging into the big cesspool side. just look at the general discussions thread.

It makes sense, but the only thing is people wouldn't be arsed to check the threads all the time - your request is much more likely to be answered if you make a new thread rather than saying "Could someone do x for me?" in another thread that's 4 pages long :)

Would you be able to make a feature that would allow people to choose a color for their posts to be put into automatically? It's kind of annoying having to go up and highlight all the text then use the color drop-down box to get the effect... Also, some of the colors that I like aren't even on the drop-down box, and it's quite annoying having to type it in every time. Maybe I'm just crazy... :P But it'd add variety to Ichigo's posts and would give people trademark colors etc. :)

You can sort the list by the amount of posts made by a member if I'm not mistaken, and something tells me Gand has enough space on his server.

Would it be possible to give jurisdiction to composers to let them delete select posts in their own composition threads? Or perhaps the ability to compress file attachments into one post? Or perhaps the ability to have 2 threads - one just for uploading and one for posting the links to the uploaded files, thus causing a master list of all compositions of a select composer in his/her thread.

haha, no, that would be a monumental pain.

well it would require massive code changes to do that... I think IPB 2.0 may have that feature, but we (Ichigo's admin team) haven't even started talking about migrating yet.

The RP mods can use the warn system to shut spammers up for a couple of days (or indefinitely) till the global mods get time to deal with them. General chat's our IRC XD I think we'd lose the lovely General Chat atmosphere if we had an IRC applet - with IRC you can only talk to whoever's there, but with General Chat you can say something and someone can come on a day later and still be able to read it :)

Noir7
December 29th, 2004, 07:07 pm
That could be done, but I doubt Gand would waste time to put in such a search thing.. I mean, how long does it take for a visitor to look for sheets with say, flute sheets, when there is text underneath them saying "for Flute" or something like that.

Nightmare
December 29th, 2004, 08:09 pm
Well, its easy if they have a particular song from an anime in mind, but if they are looking for any or all sheet music for flute, then it helps. Also, it saves time from having to look under a title, if its not there, check the next, and then the next, etc. With a search option, you can see al the things for flute right away. I think it would definately make the site more user friendly.

People seem to forget what the private forum is about really, they think it is our responsibility to put everything personal in there, but that's what people have to do themselves. Create or post outside that forum and you know everyone can read it. If you don't want that, don't post it outside that forum or don't post it at all. The fact that it was posted outside the private forum shows that those people don't mind other people knowing.

Then they shouldn't have posted it in a public forum in the first place. Their doing, not ours.

Lol whatever, why make a private forum anyway if it's open to all the public?

lol..

Neko Koneko

The private forum isn't open to the public, and if people want to keep thing from the public they can create a topic there. If they don't mind the public reading it then they can post it elsewhere. Is this hard to understand or are you just not able to think logical? =_=

ok... then how about the argument that it might scare away new members?

Neko Koneko
January 3rd, 2005, 02:39 pm
I don't see how it scares away new members. Convince me.

If new members are going to get scared away on a topic like homosexuals, then maybe its better they not come in the first place.

Lol, indeed. I say we drop this matter now, it's going on for too long ^^;

Hmm, just something cosmetic - y'know, for the stats.gif and the user.gif at the bottom of the Blue skin? Can an admin add an "align center" tag to it? I think it looks slightly off to me . . . :/ . . .

20KB?!!!!! I mean, 20!!!! Please increase to 30, at least. You CANNOT make a decent animation ava with only 20kb

please please PLEASE!!!

btw, what happened? it used to be larger? or how about you allow to upload avatars like sigs from hosters?

Animated avatars are annoying anyway so I don't see your problem

That "Today's top 10 posters" thing near the bottom can be working to its fullest if possible. It doesn't show the percents, number of posts that day, or the total posts (). Just so you know. :)

Dark Bring

Those statistics were disabled by the admins for a reason. Or two. Post counts do not mean anything here simply because they do not exist . . .

EDIT:
If a topic is relivant, you may point people to it.
Typo? Q: Can I post a link to my site or forum? (http://forums.ichigos.com/index.php?act=boardrules#q25)

Dunno if anyone has said this yet, but I think there should be a computer subforum or something, like one forum people to ask questions or to share their knowledge. Like, to share information on good programs and also on how to keep yourself protected from viruses and spyware and get rid of those really pesky ones like browser hijackers.

Actually, no - that didn't work. It was a while back, but I remember trying that - I had to use something else. What it did was everytime I opened IE, Opera, or any browser and tried to go to a webpage, it said "you cannot go to this website because it contains spyware" and then it proceeds to tell you to download some spyware program from coolsearch (they tried to make it look like the default windows page, too) :/ I couldn't go to any websites, plus it automatically reset my homepage to other search sites, complete with porn pop-ups. That was one gigantic pain in the ass. Anyway, like I said - I think there should be a forum for stuff like this.

Hi, my friend showed me this website the other day and I think it is really great that there is a free sheet music resource here. Anyways, I play the piano (which this site is mostly dedicated to) and am planning to study music as my major in college, but my primary would be in percussion, as percussive arts is what I dedicate most of my time to. I think it would be really great if this site transcribed several different insrtuments. I noticed a few full scores were posted but not many. I know posting music for several different types of instruments is difficult but I believe it would benefit the site greatly. Just a suggestion.

First of all, suggestions need to go in the suggestions thread.

Second, I'm working on it. ;)

Actually this will be easier to look for as part of the Ichigo's Grand Super Redesign! I'm working on moving all the information into a database which can then be searched (by instrument, anime, etc).

Aside from ease of use, the front-end will remain about the same. And still pink of course XD

I'm working on a guide on how to do transposition for different instruments as well - that will go in the Sheet Music Requests section :)

I've been talking to a few members recently, and we feel that the Music/Composition boards have been ignored. We understand that the staff is busy, but perhaps a new mod could help out? With Noir7 and Michael gone, the threads and the CMA aren't managed as well as we would like.

Madmazda86

Yeah, I feel bad pestering Spoony to pin stuff when she's got so much work on with her exams :/ But at the same time Noir7 might come back... and yet we do kinda need someone to pin/unpin things and update the Awards thread.

And then, if the admins say we can have a new mod, who would it beee?
