Haha, no, I'm not a Initial D fan. I've been drawing cars since I was five. Since then, it went from a rectangle with two wheels to what you see now. :D

I also like to draw; however I prefer doing the cute Disney-like animals.
(This was one of my final projects. And yes the wolf is dead, and yes the colouring is partly messed up. I had no time. The image might be pixellated too.. Try to ignore that)

Xspeed, those cars are MAD good.

Heh, thanks everyone for the replies, yeah, I'll make sure to post some of my new ones as I go along.

I actually do design cars, but what I do most of the time is designing bodykits for new cars and some old ones. Only problem is that I don't have the manpower to actually get it on blueprint and manufacture them. :( Some day, my dream will come.

Hehe, I'm back from being a missing person and well, here's some of my most recent work.

Printmaking. :P

They're prints I made from the plates I actually etched in. Plates I used are zinc plates since they react better with acid I used in school to etch the lines in.

The GS is a line etching entirely by hand. 15x20" paper
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/xpeed/GSPrint.jpg

This ferrari wheel is a line etch done by dipping in acid five times for 5 minutes each, total of 25-30 minutes to put in acid only. The rest took like 1 week, including staying and sleeping in the room. :omg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/xpeed/FerrariPrint2.jpg

This is the same one, but done with a process called, "Slow Acid" it's called "aqua tinting" which only seeps into the plate slower to get the dark affects and values you see here. This took about 1 week as well, but fairly faster. :ninja

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/xpeed/FerrariPrint1.jpg

Well what do you guys think? I have about 6 proofs for each one of them. :nod

{CriMsoN_DraGoN}
June 22nd, 2006, 07:18 pm
Yeah, I think if I tried hard enough I'd get to your detail. I really thought that pencil colored Hyundai was, very well done. Look to well like a pastel or paint layout, but I saw that it could too be penciled. Very good, how long have you been drawing cars again? Seems like maybe 6+ or so... Anyway.... I've drawn a the new SKYLINE R35 GT-R (which by the way is coming out IN THE U.S in 2008)in my art thread with my own built body kit. So I'm wondering if you'd like to take a shot at it. Here's some pics.

That's great to know, but as a side note, age isn't everything. It's the skills and knowledge that one's know that makes them stand out. I started when I was 4 and never stopped from there. Cars were always a passion and interest to me. Everything you see in my drawings are all self taught and trial and error, didn't take me overnight to get me where I am today  This is why I freehand most of my drawing so that I'll know where my mistakes are and how I can fix them instead of copying a picture and drawing it from looks instead of memory. ;)
There is no such thing as a good or bad artist, an amatuer or professional artist. Everyone has their own style as I do myself. The shading technique I use is my own style. If I wanted to, I could shade it like every other John Doe does, but I don't like to because it ain't my thing, but it's good to know if you do know it. It expands your resources. ;)

And I like to see some competition, helps me improve. :P So I would like to see some of yours. :D

Hey man I like your talent. Must be your years of experience. Let me ask, about how big is the paper you draw on? Because just amazes me how you can put such detailed seats on regualr piece of paper. I have difficulty with that cuz its so small. I've been meaning to draw you a skyling R34 GTR Type R street drift/racing car. With only lips and a wing for that stock look. Ima try your style with a blown up pic of the car like a the right fender, when he's in the process of a drift. I'll see how I can go with your style.

Heres another challenge my friend, now I know.... you haven't ever drawn or posted these yet, I want you to draw a escalade souped up, with 22" spinners, lowered about 3 inch off the ground( or in the process of hydrolics), suicide doors, and if you can, a bit of graphics on the side. And try not to make it simple graphics like a some lines or something. Good Lck my friend!

As for the Escalade, don't know, I'm not a SUV/Truck guy so I really haven't drawn anything other than cars. I've drawn couple of vans but only little, but I'll see what I can do and as for the paper size. Depends what I feel like drawing. The ones with the interior is on a 18x24" paper, so detailing ain't hard, but I can put in equal amount of details on anysized paper if I wanted to spend loads of time on it. :bleh: ^.^

:bleh: ^.^

Yeah that's the only problem with me and cars, that the paper's too small for me to draw any detail. O yea, and I've been wanting to draw that skyline, I haven't drawn one a while...

I do in my opinon, but since I'm also artist and I;m picking that out from jealosy lol I do'nt even know if it is from that, might be..... Otherwise, it's a well done drawing with nothing wrong. Usually cars aren't really hard to draw because cars are all different sizes and shapes. So any shape of a car is acceptable. Only when sketching or sculpting an already produced car such as that ferrari, is when it gets hard. But not as much. So if any of you people like cars and wish to draw em, all you need is a #2 pencil, paper, and put your mind to it. And when creating a car, it's not as hard as creating a manga character because basically, any object that has wheels and has some shape to it is a car. But for manga, what makes it difficult is that you have to be very precise; make the right proportions, eyes, hair, and etc. Or it'll look like a BLAH! or blob. But cars doesn't give you such a tumor over it. So for you car dreamers out there and on here who admire xspeed's work. Don't keep gazing at xspeed's drawings wishing to be like him/her one day, draw! come on, just takes practise as everyone says, and you just gotta put your mind to it and not joke. I know I'm off subject xspeed but I just wanted to point that out for those people here who say they never draw like you. Unless they really don't to really.... so sorry. And please all continue complimenting his drawings, for compliments and comments are what keep artists going. I didn't type this remark to be a pain in the ass. Just wanna help people put some joy into their lives.

Thanks

eh.. EDIT: Xspeed's drawings have also helped me get better at my car drawings too. His different angles on car poses showed me what other angles there are other than my 100 degree corner angle of every car I draw.... So I don't hate em... I think there awsome. I actually told my friends at school that he was better than me, and they said I WAS GOOD. But, then I saw xspeed's and told em I've been owned by another drawer. So I don't hate em.

Those are awesome especially the cars. You must really like them a lot. You've got me beat in my drawing skills that's for sure but then again I don't think I'm that tallented. Drawing was something I started when I was a child to relieve all the stress that I was going through and from there it was something that never died. Just like when I picked up writing. It helped when I couldn't draw and it much less time consuming though I prefer to draw, play piano, and other things. However, because my time is limited I do what I can.
Again great job though. Keep it up you'll go far with that kind of tallent especially if it's something you enjoy doing. You take care and God bless.

Yeah maybe a bit, and the decal on the Recaro seat is getting smaller as you drew it. But that's normal, I do that a whole lot, usually, to helo myself, I'd use a straight edge or rule to make a margin to draw in.

xpeed
March 23rd, 2007, 10:20 pm
^ The seat concaves where the "Recaro" label is at, so that's why it seems to go smaller, but I kind of messed up when I was watching a movie.
Also, here's a tip, if you want to draw good strong lines, practice without a ruler. I rarely use a ruler in my drawings unless I want that certain area to be absolute straight. :)

And this is the picture he sent me for reference.

well we've run into a techinical problem. Hatchbacks are only 3 door cars if you count the trunk lid...this means that what I know as a 4 door sedan would turn into a 5 door sedan... then comes the question: If I count the trunk, why not the hood?

xpeed
April 1st, 2007, 06:09 pm
^ It think it's because you can't store anything inside the engine bay. LoL. Also, every asian guy liking coupes is partially true. I'm asian but I prefer sedans over coupes. Except for few cars, because they only come as coupes.

Lemme guess, is it becuase of the lancer?

Anyway, the trunk door of the hatchbacks is considered a door specifically because it leads directly inside te car. Unlike sedans where the trunk is a seperate compartment from the interior, the hatchback is like a car version of the SUV, though, the station wagons fit this description more... Ok, it's the SPORT version of the miniature SUV. To where you can just climb in from the trunk and jump into the backseat. So there you go, basically doors on cars are doors... because the give entrance and exuent from the cabin or interior of the car where you sit down and buckle up, of course. So that'll answer your question for the people out there still working out the equation.

Likes the lexus, Was hoping that for my first car/project car. As for the dreams of getting some blueprints layed out, wanna know the easiest way to get that manpower your looking for? Well, all you gotta do, is to sell some art, and do commissions. I mean, look at all the fans you've racked up on here. Even I couldn't draw cars that well, not until I'm like, graduated from college. Try making some drawings for sale, do some commissions for dying fans, save up some day job salary, and soon or later you'll have your own, real like self-designed body-kit or whatever you want, right in front of you. You could also set up a web-site for fan art, and post a donation program on there. But, all that might take some time, so it's up to you, it's your life not mine.

Eternal - :) If you're referring to the framed painting in the picture, yes I painted that, but it's not Belldandy; it's Peorth :). It was back in high school and I was obsessed with Ah! My Goddess. Yeah, very nice drawings. Do you have a Wacom? You seem to be very gifted, and maybe its time to start work digital. For variation and colour your works etc. Doesn’t need to spend much money on paper and pens as well... Haa ^__^ But if you are like me it will be much of that either way…

xpeed
November 10th, 2007, 05:05 pm
^ I was thinking of getting a Wacom, but i don't know the price range of one. Meaning, I'm not too interested in it yet to know where to get it.

Anyways, I use various types of paper. The most I use the Strathmore White Drawing Paper. Sizes from 9"x12"-18"x22" I also use Bristol boards and Bristol Sheets. I'll post one of my drawings on a Bristol sheet later on once I'm done. There's a lot of difference in texture of the shading from the drawing paper to bristol.

I've been wanting to ask for a while now, don't know if I have already... but do you use picture references for your drawings? Or is it by memory? I know I can't remember every detail of a car, I can just remember the headlights and bodystyle is all. But seeing as you being a more skilled car artist, I want to know if you still use car references as I do.

xpeed
November 19th, 2007, 04:29 am
90% of the time I do not use pictures for reference. I only use them if I happen to forget a certain line of a car like a fender line or where it starts curving down. Also, I use pictures when I shade in the headlights, but not as much for taillights.

Just trying out something different. I actually enjoyed drawing this. This was 2 hours into it. I still got lots to do. Main thing I need to change is the Metro itself, it's not expressive enough or I haven't put enough "feeling" into it.

:O Looks Hawt ^.^

Well, what I do to do well in shading is to do what one of my art teachers told me to do, sort of do a scribble shade... Start for very very dark, then get lighter as you go... Or vice versa, you don't have to do this on a pict. just kinda scribble on a piece of paper over and over again till you see a good amount of contrast and comparison from the dark and light shade... Also, try looking at some real pictures, as well as other art, some people say that's the best way to learn, to emulate, yet, not plegerise their work.

happy_smiles
January 11th, 2008, 11:10 pm
Shading.... i cant shade properly, somehow my shading always look like a bunch of dark lines which suddenly gets lighter at some point, it's not smooth and how the dark shade forms into a lighter shade, it's not gradual but is very obvious...
Anyways, nice work Xpeed, i really like your drawings and hope to see more. :)

xpeed
January 12th, 2008, 04:51 am
^ I actually do, but I don't do it on my freetime. Only when I have a project to do.

Arashi: Yeah, the car was just "scribbled" on. It's my expressive way of drawing it. Fast and all, but I wanted the metro to look like it's going real slow. But since I've done that, it's not that great, so I'm going to try make it look more "fluid" as you should say. =D

Well it may be because you are pressuring too much onto the paper at some points, try to practice control and it'll smooth it all out, and another easier way is to just smooth it out with your finger or a smudging eraser.

xpeed
January 13th, 2008, 04:46 am
^ No, never smudge it with your fingers. There are oil all over your fingers and once that gets in contact with the graphite or charcoal, all hell breaks loose on the paper. Best way is to either blend it with a tissue paper or a blending stump. Use kneaded eraser as well since they don't smudge your marks but take "off" some excess graphite or charcoal.

happy_smiles
January 13th, 2008, 06:57 am
wow.... i never knew that you shouldn't use your fingers to smudge
My art teacher always tells us to smudge with our fingers whenever we needed something to be smoothed out... well, i guess she was wrong
Hmmm, control... yeah, i really need to practise on that, it seems that i can't control the pencil to create the shade i want.... well, that means more practice for me
Hehe, anyways thanks for the tips... :D

{CriMsoN_DraGoN}
January 13th, 2008, 12:55 pm
Well, it always worked for me, and other art teachers have told me as well, and it works as long as you don't go off of the designated "smoothing area"... at least for me that is.

xpeed
January 13th, 2008, 09:52 pm
^ Don't get me wrong, I've done it too, but I realized that using a stump compared to fingers is big difference. It's lot smoother and less messy. The oil on your fingers will make it harder to erase later, not to mention fingerprints.

Hmmm, I may not be as great and high as Xspeed, but I'll take that request... I haven't drawn a car in quite a while, and this would be a great car to touch up on... Who would've thought they'd bring a hotwheels car to life? :P

Though, I'm quite upset that this is a Mazda, for Mazda is known to have bad engines that constantly get blown when they're pushed too hard on the streets... Thats if... this batmobile hits the road that is...

But yeah, I'll take that request, though it may take a while since I've got other things on my tab right now... Just PM me about it... and remind me every now and then...

The Fingerprints!!! i remember drawing this picture with oil pastels, it took me ages to complete it... i thought everything was in perfect shape but then there were fingerprints everywhere and where the fingerprints were, the colour was lighter than what it was supposed to be... it looked so messy. x_x

Yeah, unfortunately... Especially with RX-7s... Though they make great cars... especially with drifting... They were known to have constantly blow their engines... Which is one of the reasons why Mazda cut off production for em... I think... But yeah, one of my sister's friends owns a Mazda 6... And he used to race it in the streets... but he blew his engine on one... so he has to use his roommate's car...

^ That's because he was an idiot for racing it on the street. Sorry, I don't respect people who street races. Other than that, I haven't heard anything about Mazda's engines blowing up, except for the rotary engines 13Bs in the RX-7s. Believe it or not, the 13B engines are excellent engines. The only problem is the disc seals that break over a period of time. But once you fix that problem, the engine is gold.

Id second this, afaik the RX-7s bad rep for blown engines wasnt due to bad engines just improper maintenance. One example of Rotary engines being durable issssss...

I only heard of the engines themselves that were the problem... though somewhere in my mind I knew it had to do with one of the parts that affiliate with the engine.

But personally, my fav. foreign car company that makes awsome engines (besides European cars... no one can beat them...) would have to be Nissan or Honda...
