I saw the topgear ep on the 350z the other day. Clarkson had two problems with the engine:
1.) It's french, it's the same you get in the renault Vel Satis.
2.) It doesn't sound good at all, it's an annoying buzz that just won't go away.
And Top Gear is always right.

That's one thing I don't agree with Clarkson. The engine sound. I love it and I'm sticking by it. :heh: He can keep his M-Benz SL engine, I'm keeping mine.

Im looking at getting a 206. For my first car.
A person i know is all like 'oh peugeots look pretty, but theyre so unreliable'.
But her husband works for toyota, she says i should get a yaris as theyre much more reliable, but what about all that hoo-ha with them all being recalled.

^ Actually, the Toyotas being recalled are mostly targeted at the US market models. The Yaris is fine but a yaris is such a pansy car. Never a fan of Peugeots since they all look like pig-nose boxes.
Seat Ibiza are nice.

Peugeot is okay as a first car, 106 is hugely popular for that. I would recommend something German or Japanese though, Yaris is fine. I've driven the 1.3 Verso and it goes pretty well. Downside is that Japanese cars are often more expensive than French ones, but there's a reason for that, they're more reliable.

Fixed the bumper on my car, should've taken some pics. I hit a rabbit going 115km/h on one of our main freeways (hume). Ten mins of re-screwing and laying down on very sore arm muscles from snowboarding did the trick.

Haha true, but if you come down to California, there are tons of people who mod their camrys. I have a lot of friends that go all out. Some even turbocharging it and pumping out over 300HP with the Inline 4, not V6. I'm not going spend a lot of money on it since it's just a daily driver. I have my Infiniti for the weekends as you can see in the first picture. =)

It doesn't, but I like it. Super simplistic.
And xpeed, I would absolutely flip if I was driving by a Camry and then all of a sudden I hear it go "vrooompsshh." xD
I turned up the boost on my turbo (I drive a '91 740Turbo Volvo...automatic...damn American markets) and sure it definitely delivers that little more with +3 psi (total of ~9.3 psi)..but it has created a bunch of turbo lag so it's like it did nothing :\ Need to change the timing with it or whatever...it's so much fun tuning tiny Mitsu turbos o.0
And I wanna see your Camry all done up nice. :) I'm currently in the process of finding two tires that fit on my new back wheels that I've painted up. I got the front ones on, and I can't wait to find a good deal on other ones. After my wheels, I'll need to buff out my headlights...and I'm putting some "lazy" looking eyebrows on them :3
Neko Koneko
November 24th, 2010, 09:18 pm
It's just that I think if you add something to the interior, it has to look like it belongs there, not stick out like it's a randomly placed object :P

November 25th, 2010, 12:57 am
Yeah, I will agree on that.
Might as well post my car if I'm going to post here, huh?
This is what my car looked like back in the beginning of September; the only thing ADDED to it was the "Euro" sticker/badge (as a joke)... (continued after spoiler)

http://i52.tinypic.com/16k2rk5.jpg
http://i51.tinypic.com/2ci8lsk.jpg
...but now it looks different, and will only stray further. Now it is debadged in the back, different wheels and tires, and I fixed the sagging interior...I did a quick fix job (screw-pins ftw)...but you can't see it in any of these shots. I also replaced the muffler to...with a cherry bomb xD Don't worry. DId it because it was cheap and it's totally legal for my car :3
What I am planning to do is this:
COMPLETELY debadge it...if I can find the Euro side-markers...which are hell to try and get online now adays...and this also means the front grille too.
Buff headlights/ front sidemarkers
Take off my resonator (it's like a second muffler) and replace it with a sleeve...just gotta find time
Lower it an inch or so (but that will never happen...money...etc)
Tint the windows
Replacing all the interior lights, and adding floor lights as well.
...still thinking of other things, but yeah. That's what I am going to do with it thus far...more engine stuff I'd like to do, but they're too much money to even mention :\
"Lazy" Eyebrows on headlights/ front sidemarkers.

Daaaaamn. That first video of the Camry is pretty insane. Talk about a sleeper machine...almost xD Surprisingly, I actually enjoy the sound it has. The Turbo isn't obnoxious at all, it sounds so smooth and healthy. I wouldn't mind having a Camry now :)
However the second video... for one, I'm not a big fan of the new Corollas and Camrys, plus the sound (however it IS video recorded) was verrry "ricey." Anyway. Haha.

Even though it may sound ricey, that's how a properly managed exhaust sounds like on the Camry's 2AZ-FE engine. So he actually did it right. :) His is barely under the legal db limit in CA.
The first video I showed you, he owns three more cars that are turbocharged. One being a 900+hp Supra.
The other guy with the new camry traded in his for a new GT-R. I'm telling you, these guys aren't your typical ricer boyz. LOL

Ricer boys are all show, no go. People who create a proper setup for their car are cool.
On this Dutch Honda forum there was a guy with a 1.4 SOHC engine. I believe he got over 140 BHP out of it without using a turbo charger. Now he has a turbo kit on it, it's doing 200 BHP. That thing could smoke many German 2.0 DOHC's XD

I was about to say: "Are you sure you want to spend 6000 dollars on an mk.III VR6 though?" and then I saw it's Australian dollars.
Had it been black or another dark colour I'd say go for it. It's RED though. Red never stays good and to be honest I think it looks horrible on this particular car.
Another issue, it has run 200.000 KM. Since it's a petrol engine and a fast car (that's probably got a lot of kicking in its life), I'd say the engine can't be that good anymore (unless it got rebuilt or something). I just wouldn't risk it, especially if you have to fly there.

I have 6k, the car is only advertised for 4.9k. Which I'll bargain down.
I not fussed about the colour. I think red looks nice, everyone's different.
Before flying there, I'm going to get the RACQ to check it out. They are Queensland and New South Wales' car insurance/roadside assist and I'll ask them to check it out before I fly up.

^ Intake FTW.
So, I was with my buddies today. And although all of the snow that fell over the weekend had been plowed and the roads were completely salted. . .my friends and I decided to go drifting in my car around town. Well, this wasn't so easy with, considered what was forementioned. Then we checked all of our usual lots. . .it seems the companies and stores caught on to the millions of swirl-designs in the snow when they came to work the next day. In short, everywhere was either dry as a bone (or some ice patches with dry spots. . .not consistent --- not safe) or it was 3 inch tightly-packed snow. . .which is not easy to get out of when you learn that you can't drift in it.
Well, we just said "F- it" and went drifting in a dry lot. My first time legitimately trying to drift on dry pavement, which some ice patches for some help (yet hard to predict how much slip/grip was going on until you got there). It was a wonderful time, actually. Among my chumps, I'm one of the better two snow drifters and snow drivers in general, however, I've only gotten INTO drifting as the snow fell so it was a truly new experience without the lovely white fluff. As it's not smart to stay in the same spot for long. . .or legal in the first place. . .we went to a friend's garage. For some reason, we ended up duct-taping --- yes, DUCT-TAPING --- some mean looking eyebrows on my car. Wish I had a photo to go with this post, but I do not (at the time).
After this I was pumped to see my little mean Volvo 740T with the headlights on. When I started it up, backed out, and then jumped out of my car --- I was so excited that we went to go drift a little more. Ha! Anyway, among this new 5hp+ upgrade, I also got my new wheels and tyres on my auto. Pictures soon.
P.S. Just noticed that this my most popular thread in the last few months. XD

Back from the competition. We did OK. Came in 81/122. We didn't finish the endurance race because the splines in our steering wheel stripped so we lost our ability to steer. We did the 75 m acceleration in 5.8 s which was pretty slow (Best was like 3.8 s) and we were slower in our skid pad and auto cross times. We were also a tank this year weighing in at 567 lbs (257 kg)! Our tune was also pretty bad since we never tuned the car under load. We had no low end power.
Those German teams were pretty impressive! One of them engineered their car so they didn't need a suspension!
Here's our skid pad runs. You can tell something's up with the steering.

I managed to sell my old Honda. Yes, I still had it. Now it's gone. A friend of mine bought it. Turned out all the brakes were rusted stuck over the past year and the battery died during the winter x_x Ah well, eventually got the wheels loose again by jacking the car up, and turn it by hand which worked for 3 wheels, the 4th was really stuck but I got a message the other day saying he got it running again. He jumpstarted it, the wheel got loose, he drove to a petrol station, filled the car up and then couldn't start it again because the battery's completely shot. Ah well, a battery isn't too expensive so in the end he'll still have a pretty cheap car :)

Top Gear America is just a failboat waiting to be torpedoed. They're not even funny, let alone entertaining. Just a bunch of red necks with biased, idiotic opinions. Let me correct that, biased, not funny idiotic opinions. There. Americans don't get British humor because they don't get it. We Americans find babies being knocked down by a cat funny. That's how sad we are. I find British comedy more hilarious than most stand ups here. =|

Haha, yeah that was me. I can actually easily fit my guitar and a decent sized amp in the boot no worries. I don't own anything terribly larger, so I didn't end up needing that big of a car. The boot is fairly long actually, so you can lie down a few guitars and/or amps in there. Its only done 90,000k's, and been serviced regularly. Its just been taken care of really well, the front bumper has been replaced since that had a dint or so in it, nothing serious though. I'm quite happy with it. The only problem is I think the media system has a code lock on it, so I can't play any music as of yet. :\
I'll also add that it only cost $10,500. I could have got a similarly decent car for about $8000-9000, but all those either had one part to watch out for or the fuel economy was terrible. This luckily, has a great mechanical history amongst other owners and does about 6L per 100km around here. It can get about 5L on the highway, and does around 7-8L in the city.

Don't pay attention. You bought a proper car that has the wheel on the correct side....because it's from Japan. :P An SX eh? The US never had an SX, but a GT. It's probably the same equivalent to the GT or the GT-S, whichever, but from judging your engine specs, it seems like it's a GT-S with a 2ZZ-GE motor. One of the best engines from Toyota.
You can actually regain some of those horsepower back. Get new spark plugs, new wirings, and then treat it to some fuel injection cleaners and fuel system cleaners and you should be good.
I wished my car had a sixth gear. It seriously needs one since my gears are close ratios. The mileage isn't so kind because of it. XD

Sweet, the Celica is one of the last proper Toyota's (before they turned into hippies and started making hybrid monsters)
In Australia and New Zealand, the Celica was only offered with 2ZZ-GE engine (with 4-wheel disc brakes) in two trim levels, SX and ZR. The SX was fitted with 15 in alloy wheels CD player, electric windows and mirrors. The ZR has standard ABS, moonroof, SRS side and front airbags, fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, 6 stack in dash CD player (with tape deck) and aluminium pedals. Optional extras was the 4-speed tip tronic (Automatic), air conditioning and metallic paint. Satellite Navigation became available mid 2002 as an option. Sportivo body kits (which is the same as Mechanical Sports Version in Japan, or Action Package in the US) are available.
It's the entry model in Aussiland. Doesn't really matter for perfmance compared to the ZR since the engine is the same. It is the same engine as the GT btw. Check out the Wikipedia page if you're interested:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Celica#Asia_Pacific (scroll up a bit for engine comparisons in the US and Europe)
My car seems all boring now :( Then again, I wasn't looking for anything fast, I was looking for something cheap and since mine runs on LPG I only pay 80 cents a litre for fuel (that's about €1 less than petrol) so yay for that :P
xpeed
February 7th, 2012, 08:08 am
^ Nope. The GT only had the 1ZZ-GE as the GT-S were only offered with the 2ZZ-GE and 6 spd manual. That's why I was mentioning about the engine and the car trim. Thanks for that info though, never knew about the SXs.
The GTs made up the bulk of the Celica sales. I hardly see any GT-S Celicas any more, which makes me sad. It was such a great car, as you said, before Toyota became a hybrid-building monster.

February 7th, 2012, 08:14 am
European GT does have the 2ZZ-GE though. Ah: "In 2005, Toyota GB released the Celica GT. This is not the same as the GT in North America. The British GT is actually the T-Sport with additional body kits and different alloy wheels."
From that Wikipedia article I gather the US GT was kinda tame at 140 HP, while the UK GT has 189 HP.

As long as it gets you from A to B. ;) The Vectra is a pretty good car, my Dad had one for about 12 years and not a problem. The only problem came when a truck decided to crash into it one night (it was just parked in the street, so Dad wasn't in harms way).
Actually my Celica is an import from Japan. The previous owner got it shipped over. One of the main reasons I bought it. :) I could have gotten a ZR, but the closet comparison in terms of treatment and distance traveled was almost $5000 more. And there was no way I was going to pay that much just for a few extras. And being the Japanese version it already came standard with ABS and a sunroof, so there wasn't much difference between this and the Australian release ZR.
I actually looked into getting a gas car, but it turned out that with the cars I could find, they used gas much quicker and so even though it was cheaper to fill up you had to do it almost twice as often. The only disadvantage with the Celica is that it uses premium fuel only (which is about 10% more expensive than regular). But it gives the car a bit more performance and it lasts longer, so there really isn't that much of a downside.
While you're on the subject of GT's, its actually illegal for me to drive them since they have turbo's as standard here. :\
And xpeed, you have probably got the best looking Camry I have seen lol. Mum has one but along with looking fairly so-so, its definitely showing its age. XD

The old owner must have misunderstood that being from Japan doesn't mean its an import then. Eh well, I still love it. :D

The Celica was the last true Toyota imported directly from Japan. I believe all Celicas were built in Japan and then exported around the world. In the US, there are only three Toyotas that are still built in Japan and imported. The new Land Cruiser 200 series, FJ, and Pruis, but that's now changing as Toyota is now focusing on building hybrids in the US too. *sigh* :( Although, the new Toyota 86, Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ will be built in Japan. I'm kind of interested in test driving one soon this coming May. To be honest, if I had money to spare, I would try so hard to import a Land Cruiser 80 to the US. Even though it's illegal, I can somewhat write it off as a classic import, since US laws allows citizens to import foreign cars that are over 25 years old without any restrictions on current import and emission laws. Living in California sucks if you're into cars that aren't available in the US.
Thanks Taemond. I will be repainting the car soon. I might as well change the color since it's going to be repainted. I'm thinking dark blue, or a unique orangish-brown, maybe Ipanema Brown used on Audis.

I don't see what's wrong with producing a car locally. I mean, there's no difference between machines putting together a car in the US or in Japan. It only matters where the design was made, after that you can produce it anywhere. This saves costs, which can make the car cheaper. It's also better for the environment. Any pollution a prius might save during its lifespan is already cancelled out by the fact it's made in Japan and then shipped since those ships cause more pollution than the priusses could ever made up for.
xpeed
February 7th, 2012, 04:27 pm
There are some subtle difference in quality between one that's made in Japan and one made elsewhere. Of course though, that has improved over time, but in the beginning, the models that were built in the US didn't really last as long as the one made from Japan back in the day. My point is that some people prefer to buy a Japanese car that was actually built in Japan. Now what I don't get is why does some Japanese car companies import their cars from the US to certain Asian countries when Japan is closer nearby. Wouldn't it make since to ship them from Japan and save some costs on shipping? Could be lack of supply? Who knows.

It's exhilarating to say the least :p You could always start on a Ninja 250, or now Honda's new CBR250R, and then move up to a 600 after you're more comfortable riding bikes. Ninja 250s are great because they're cheap (2-2.5k) starter bikes, and unless you completely trash it, you'll be able to resell it to someone else looking for a starter bike, and probably break even since they hold their value really well.
http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2011models/2011-Honda-CBR250Rc.jpg
Everybody on the internet screams to start on a 250 anyway, which was my initial plan even though I already have a decent amount of experience on a dirt bike. But then I got to ride my cousin's CBR600F4i at the beginning of the summer and found out that a 600 wouldn't be too aggressive for me, so I just went ahead and bought a 600.

I still need to register my bike x.x I'll be surprised if I get out there for under $250.

^ Damn....more respect to you for going back at it. That would be a stopper for me if that happened.
On other news. I'm currently in the market for a new car. I'm leaning towards the 2013 Subaru Impreza WRX. Oh yes.....and I'm going to make the car sound dirty.

Nice. I drove a relatives 90's WRX back when I was learning it felt really awesome to drive. Would have probably got one if my state didn't ban probationary drivers (basically an in between of learners and full licensed drivers) from driving any Impreza except the newer non-turbo ones.
My Celica is coming up to its 110,000 k service and a friend and I will be doing a basic DIY service on it; I want to try and get a grasp on some basic mechanics. Also been considering doing something cosmetic like painting the brake calipers. ;)

I'll be getting the Saloon version. I don't like the 5-door hatch version. It's ugly.

Just googled both............well the Impreza has never been the prettiest car. :heh:
And I think you mean SEDAN. :P

Nope, it's saloon. Sounds fancier too. Anyhoo, I prefer those over hatches and station wagons. Seems more classy :P

Yeah, hatches are for little boys and station wagons are for men with kids. I'm neither, so the saloon will do fine for me.

Well, I guess if I wanted a quick little car to go around a circuit I'd get a hatch because they're generally lighter, and more rigid due to the lack of rear doors. However, for my daily I'd pick a saloon over anything else anytime.

Everyone knows LanEvos are bad guy cars, though. =P
I'm interested in the BRZ/FRS, with all the sparkling reviews it's been getting. I have no money for a car, though!

The BRZ/FRS and WRX are priced similarly. It all depends if you want two extra doors and a turbocharged engine with awd.....I take the latter. I'm too old for coupes now.

That's why in Top Gear the LanEvo totally owned the Impreza hatch?

I'm sure the WRX is much faster, with better handling to boot. The BRZ is just supposedly obscenely fun to drive, hahah. That's what matters most to me! =)

Haha, oh how I wish those two were evenly priced in Australia..........a WRX is going to set you back $10,000-$20,000 more than the BRZ. But that being said I'd rather get the Toyota 86 if I were going for one of pair, my Celica has converted me. XD

Fantastic car Xpeed. ;) No need to get something new, use it as your permanent car. :P
There seems to be something wrong with the car though, the steering wheel is on the wrong side. :P
