Summer is only round the corner so this makes sence. Some big desicions to make such as will it happen this year?
Will it be in London, Birmingham or the recently glorified Manchester?
Do post your ideas to help this plan work.

BTW this is my first ever thread ever, anywhere.

Aren't you proud? ;)

I really, really hope you all plan to have one this year, because it's almost certainly my only chance to meet most of you! I'll be in England from roughly end of June - beginning of September, so I think that pretty much encompasses Summer holidays..... so with any luck I should be able to come!

As for where, well.. I'll stay out of that discussion and admit that those of you who have been in the country within the past decade may well have a better idea of places than me!

Birmingham is alright in the summer, but its boring for me because i live there

London was pretty kewl last summer, but please can we not arrange it on the hottest day of the year because travel was a nightmare xD

Manchester sounds interesting as ive never been there

basically i dont care but will come =]

HanTony

Many of us do seem centralised around Birimgham but London is the capital and Manchester was recently polled as the second best place for youngsters.
As more people agree to come we will have a better idea for location.

I think London would be easier for Rantan to get to...also most of ichigos members are from London (PFT_Shadow, Sephy, Bombom, DM, Maz, Dark_Bring, Moonlight Stalker, Fi-chan, me and er anyone else I missed out XD)

I don't think fi-chan or moonlight stalker will be able to go though.

@Thorn - sorry, I didn't know it was going to be that hot!

(Although if hardly any London people can make it, Birmingham might be easier)

Well I am picking up a 10 dollar an hour job and my college is paid for. I say this every meetup thread but I'm gonna attempt to make it over the pond. I need a change of pace anyways.

Well, depending on how my hours pan out, and when it is, I think I'll be able to make it. I will be coming from Wales though so my, somewhat non-existant, vote would be for which ever is closest or easiest to get to from there.

random_tangent
February 19th, 2007, 08:07 am
Well, Manchester is TECHNICALLY the easiest for me to get to, since that's where my relatives live, an-kun :p But yeah, I'm cool with anywhere... just make it somewhere the confused Aussie can find, or else give me multiple phone-numbers to locate people with.

Pshhh, Pommies and the heat ;) Complaining is not relevant unless it's over 40 degrees celsius. If it was, well, then I take it back and say that if it's going to be that hot, we should meet somewhere inside!

@Angelic: Awwwwww, does that mean I have to come and stalk you when you're home instead?

All over the place, plus Taiwan, but this is a different topic. I'll be making a thread so people can give me suggestions on what to see!

Thorn
March 10th, 2007, 10:29 am
well as far as dates go i vote sometime at the end of July, because August tends to be the month where people are usually away.

even if that does mean having it on a ridiculously hot day again xD

*needs a drink just thinking about the temperature at last meet*

HanTony

Date: Flexible.

Place, DEFINATELY BIRMINGHAM.

PFT_Shadow
March 10th, 2007, 10:52 pm
look people, dont say where you want it say if you cant make a certain loctation. It will probably be a major factor deciding if half the people cant do a certain place.

therefore, Jaso, can you make london

Jaso
March 10th, 2007, 10:59 pm
It is unlikely

HanTony
March 10th, 2007, 11:04 pm
If a group of us met in Birmingham first so that we could travel together then I could make it to London, otherwise i'll be clueless about getting there and the exact location within London.

Neko Koneko

If you go with megabus, it'll only be a few quid actually.

Jaso
March 11th, 2007, 10:05 pm
I really think Birmingham is a better idea, as London can be REALLY hectic.

PFT_Shadow
March 11th, 2007, 10:51 pm
CAN be hectic, let not push preferences till we know what people can do. Anone who cant to do london?

megabus is good, but over that long a journey? what leaving time would that require?

Jaso
March 11th, 2007, 11:00 pm
Hmm... I advise booking the train and specifically getting a route that changes at Birmingham New Street? Quite sheap and fast.

Neko Koneko
March 11th, 2007, 11:01 pm
PFT, would you stop pushing London so much? Even if I can make it, I don't WANT a meetup in London. I have no other reason not to pick London, I just hate the place so I don't want to go there.

Jaso
March 11th, 2007, 11:05 pm
... bringing us to Birmingham ^_^

Although I should follow the example and not push that either...

(I guess Manchester is pretty out of here now)

Neko Koneko
March 11th, 2007, 11:09 pm
I'm not saying I absolutely won't show up if London is preferred, I'm just saying I'm less likely to and that I prefer B'ham. I don't have any other reason than that, London is a horrible place during the summer IMO, that's enough reason for me to vote against it.

DarkMagician
March 12th, 2007, 12:03 am
honestly......london is a chaos in the summer x_x though i dont know what its like in B'ham, london is better at other times of the year than summer....way too many tourists...way too much pollution trapped under the heat....icky~~

PFT_Shadow
March 12th, 2007, 12:23 am
PFT, would you stop pushing London so much? Even if I can make it, I don't WANT a meetup in London. I have no other reason not to pick London, I just hate the place so I don't want to go there.
meh, i know that its just in response to peoples preference of birmingham, i just thought that a simple who can make what is needed first. if this is to be planned shouldnt location be the first thing?
so along with the poll of which people would prefere we need a poll of who can make which. Then people can worry about dates prices and times.

Neko Koneko
March 12th, 2007, 12:30 am
I think preference and being able to make it can be considered pretty much the same thing. If the meetup is in London I might not even bother to attend, why would I want to go to that hellish city again? x_x

And it's a busy place at lunchtimes.-_-

Thorn
March 13th, 2007, 04:39 pm
last London meetup i went with megabus and it only cost something like £6 either way.

but the downside is that travelling for that long on a bus on a hot day is enough to make you want to slit your wrists, especially when there is an irritating small child behind you. and im sure Spoony and Angelic will agree as they also used megabus.

not really any other choice for me though because i just dont have the money to throw away on random train journeys.

Jaso
March 13th, 2007, 04:42 pm
 I do

But if its the same megabus as you people I will take it too. How about we all get a megabus from Birminham NS (for those of us who said we would meet there (if London is decided))?

Thorn
March 13th, 2007, 05:25 pm
the megabus goes from Snow Hill, but i could still meet people at NS and we could walk there

Jaso

I don't mind either London or Birmingham, really. ^^ Birmingham would be much more convenient for me, but I understand that for a lot of people, it would be very difficult for them to get there (I want to see Maz, Sephi, An-kun, and the three girls who I always got mixed up again!).

Currently, I'm free whenever. Angelic and I haven't decided yet when we'll be meeting up though (and in which country). If we're in London again though, I'd like to request a bit more of a plan, so it won't seem so hectic on a hot day ^^ I need to make sure to bring more drinks with me too.

As Thorn and Angelic said, you can take a Megabus between London and Birmingham. It doesn't cost very much, just that the buses are like the double-decker city ones, not coaches, and the times are a bit less flexible. Or you could take the train, but that's more expensive, and there are several places in London you could end up at.

If it's sunny though, how about we retry our idea from last year? Go to a park and have a picnic of sorts? Saves money if people bring/buy something, and I imagine it won't be so hectic in a park.

Woah... Lovely appears!

I'd suggest either the start or end of summer, as opposed to the very middle when it's likely to be the hottest. And I suggest we all try and get at least a few people's phone numbers so that we can not lose everyone, hopefully! As I said before, I'm not fussed about location as to my knowledge I've never been to either of them!

I'm in england from roughly 20th June - 5th September, so I think that means I should be able to come at any point through the summer... maybe... although as far as I'm concerned, it should be winter in those months!

random_tangent
April 14th, 2007, 10:18 am
Well I should be coming over sometime between the 15th and 20th of June, so early July should work for me... although my bloody PARENTS have decided they want to come over with me, and I won't have gotten rid of them by that point, so it may be the usual omission of facts as to how I know people I'm meeting! Done it before, will do it again, lol. If Maz comes, of course I have a perfectly valid 'met her while she was on her GAP year...' lol. *sigh* bloody overprotective parents haven't quiet grasped the fact I'm an adult!

In short form: Between 1st and 4th of July works for me! And last week of June does too, as long as everyone is prepared to put up with a probably still jetlagged Aussie.

EDIT: I'm still going to suggest maybe we have a meetup in London later in the summer, if the one with Spoony and Angelic is in Birmingham... the people I most want to see HAVE to fall into the 'will/can only go HERE' camps, don't they!

Neko Koneko
April 14th, 2007, 10:28 am

So the date is kinda fixed, right? somewhere around the June-July weekend. And whether it's in Brum or in Lon wouldn't be a big deal for me. If I can just trust my dad's words ._.

Madmazda86
April 15th, 2007, 10:37 am
Whoa whoa whoa! Okay, Brum isn't the only place that I can make, so don't worry! Depending on when my placements are and when the meetup is, I can make it to a meet in London, Manchester OR Birmingham. I can travel via London on my way back home for a weekend and claim it back on the NHS so that's all good XD And Liverpool's only an hour or two from Manchester or Brum by train so those two are fine too, but I'd have to be IN Liverpool at the time of the meetup.

Manchester's actually a pretty cool place to go - there's a Wagamama and a really ace Chinese bakery that does really nice cakes. But I think it's best if we just stick to Brum and London. I'll have to meet up with rantan in Manchester some time :D

Anyway, more than anything else I need to hear back from my head of department about my placement dates. I've emailed her, but I won't know if she's replied till this Friday (trying to get internet access in Wales is kinda hard x_x) Once I know those I can tell you where I can be on what days. By the sounds of things you've already got a rough date... I am *supposed* to be on placement on that date but our department sucks so they're changing them round and stuff. I will try and do everything I can to make it seeing as I missed the last ones because of exams (Ugh). Can't wait to see you guys!

It is confirmed that I'm flying into London on the 17th of June, and I have informed parents that I want to be meeting Maz again, so I THINK I've gotten rid of all the problems I had with coming!

But I'm still going to say London, since I have absolutely NO idea where Brum is....

Spoonpuppet
April 24th, 2007, 10:24 am
Basically, take your map of England, and stick your finger in the middle of it. You're probably not far off from where Birmingham is, lol.

Anyway... as I said before, I don't mind going to London. ^^ An opportunity to travel (I've hardly been there really), and do some more site-seeing!

Hantony said June 30th... I'd REALLY prefer it not to be June 30th or July 1st, because that's when I'm moving all my stuff to my new student house!

Neko Koneko
April 24th, 2007, 10:29 am

No need to be so specific about place right now. Basically we just needed to know which bit of the country we'll be in, lol.

Thank god you saw me on webcam or I could still be there today...

It has nothing to do with me being a meddler, but more with you being too lazy to look up even the most tiny bit of information on your own, which for one makes you look really stupid and on top of that is really, and I mean *really* getting on people's nerves, not just mine.

Depends on what dates you're looking to go, and which airport you're coming from. Just taking a quick search, seems like Air Canada will do it, or American Airlines. British Airways and Virgin Airlines I don't know, but they're generally expensive :P

You could also try Lastminute.com for flight searches. The site's a bit tricky to navigate to get it to do a return flight from Non UK to UK since it's geared for UK users, but it's possible, hehe.

London is well sign posted if you follow the motorway (English highway sort of thing)

Spoony: Hmm cool, lastminute.com is pretty nifty, and they have a US version. Found flights from around $1000.

RanTan:  $3000!

So... after looking through the entire thread I still can't figure out where in London to meet. :( Did you guys say Victoria station or King's Cross?

I think most of the coaches/buses end up at Victoria coach station which logically would be near Victoria station. Last year we then met up at King's Cross.

Say Victoria Coach station, it seems to be the arriving place for the brum lot.

I'll give my number out on request. Getting people from other stations shouldnt be a problem. If anyone else can pick up the others it would be easier

I will be coming in at Victoria - my only problem is bus TIMES... Stoke - London doesn't get there til 2pm.. and the earliest Manchester-London still doesn't get there until 11.15 - and that would mean catching the bus at 6.45am - and my family lives OUTSIDE Manchester, so I'd still have the problem of getting to the station at that time in the am.

So, my question to the London people (or anyone, really): is there anywhere cheap in London/en route that you can think of to stay at! Or even Brum, because I could always stay the night there, since it's almost certainly going to be cheaper than London, lol.

Don't panic. If you're going by train, get a day ticket for Zones... 1 and 2 I think. You can get it at the same time as your train ticket. It means you can take the tube to wherever. I'm pretty sure everybody will get be getting a day ticket anyway, so we can go around places however we feel like.

indeed, day zone tickets are needed.

Jaso, we can allways make our way to kings cross from Victoria you know

Around 12/11? Will have to work out when people's buses are. Trains are much more flexible.

Jaso

:o I will arrive at Victoria Station at 12:30.

bout to book train today.

Good enough time?

Can't do earlier as service from my City is rather poor going to London.

Getting a tube pass for the day :)

From Manchester, I could arrive at 11.45 with a cheapo one (i've had to change to National Express, Megabus just doesn't have enough services from where I'll be coming from)

From Stoke, 11.30. So, either way... about 12 is good for me! There are other buses, also, but I'd prefer those since they're WAY cheaper ;)

And hey, changing services mean I'm saving money AND I don't have to stay in London :D Guys, check out the Funfares on N.E - they're actually cheaper than Megabus in my case, so might be worth it for anyone else, also.

I was clueless to the cost and zones (still don't get the zones so assuming all of the main city is #1 and #2)
I'll let Thorn sort out the megabus thing.

I'm assuming you buy them at the train stations? Lol, I think I can beat the rest of you for obliviousness of London transport systems.. though I DO get zones, they used to use them on the buses here and it was a damned pain.
