Well, it's not like the pictures are NSFW. There are more explicit images in PG-13 movies than on my desktop. I keep it pretty clean. Boobs are covered and Genitalia are covered, how is that not clean?
Well, here is with photobucket, but it'll probably be removed by tomorrow.

In addition, check page 13 of the images. You might find something that's similar to what your avatar was in the second slot.

Personally I don't care, but I feel that one should at least be aware of what exactly they're symbolizing with their avatars; especially in matters of 4chan since there's a lot of really bad stuff that can happen on that site without a user even knowing it. Kinda like Winndich's MLP avatar which was used as a disguise for illegal image zip files about half a year back (don't worry, Winndich, you're clean).

Yay, crappy Java code x_x I wish my school would let us work in C#

It should be List<TickData> editList = sortedData.get(currentKey). ArrayLists are an implementation of the List datatype. Using ArrayList directly is bad. Also, you're using a Map of String-ArrayLists. A Map should only be 1 Dimension deep. If you require any deeper levels, you need to create a DTO that wraps what you want it to do; that is, instead of a Map<String,List<TickData>>, you should be extending the HashMap class to your TickData, and implement the sorting you want. Not to mention, you could move away from a HashMap (I'm assuming you're using that, given the above import) to a TreeMap or SortedMap type, where you can sort the keys of the map, and then loop over the keys and sort the ArrayList values to sort them with Collections.sort();

Also Java and C# are not all that different, or I should say I'm pretty sure you're not working deep enough to truly see what Java's faults are (or C#s faults for that matter). Unless you're trying to do some IoC, Fragment Programming, or Lambda expressions.

Lol, I was waiting for M to come around and shoot my code :P

I know it's a very bad... thing but I was long glad to get it working. Considering I didn't even finish the java programming course during the first half of this schoolyear, I'm kind of amazed of how far I've come even now. My teacher also keeps telling me that in the declaration I should just use list and later when I actually create the thing I should make it an arraylist.

Lol, I was waiting for M to come around and shoot my code :P

But of course! You know, the whole thing about "someone is wrong on the Internet; IT IS MY SWORN DUTY TO CORRECT THEM!" syndrome has always been in my blood.

Not to mention, Java has made me horribly jaded with programming in of the fact that it's written for lazy people to write crappy code once and have it excrete golden poo everywhere. Pretty sure you could school me around the block in C# this point.

Neko Koneko
March 29th, 2012, 11:14 pm
Na, I'm not that great with anything when it comes to programming. Today a friend helped me out though, the whole program is a lot cleaner now (no data is stored in arraylists or maps anymore, it's all put in a buffer that's being emptied at the same time by a process that writes it all to a file).

But java sucks. I hate java. I wish my school would teach me how to use C++ or C#. C# might not be perfect but it's a lot better than the digital vomit that's Java.

But java sucks. I hate java. I wish my school would teach me how to use C++ or C#. C# might not be perfect but it's a lot better than the digital vomit that's Java.

Why do you guys hate Java so much? I use Java for programming and it's fine. C++ is great too, so why all the hate?

Too enterprisy. You're more or less working on a language that refuses to upgrade its standard to keep consistency, and also suffers from poor porting to several incomplete libraries that require you to seek out other third party libraries to fulfil your original desires. After which, you have to deal with an ecosystem that is OS agnostic, which results in all kinds of specialized tools that cannot be reused anywhere else. Have you ever taken a look at maven? It's a disaster on both startup and migration, also, being the new chief build tool for Java, for it to be any worth, you need to have an AEther server such as Artifactory or Archiva for it to be useful. Additionally the compilation of the classes are generally unoptimized, and in order to optimize it requires you to actually perform a "hack" to the language called "Inversion of Control", where you can dynamically load libraries in an insecure and unmanaged way.

Also, Java always tries copies other languages, and it usually results in a disaster (for instance, generics was supposed to be Java's equivalent to C++'s templates, but it completely missed the mark)

C++11, or C99 for that matter, may have its syntactic quirks that irk people, but it's still far superior to Java in regards to performance, compatibility, and capability.

Disclaimer: I program in (j)Ruby, Python, and C99, so I may be a bit biased.

unless i'm stupid (which is entirely possible), yes?

just one will be VGA cable'd the other would be DVI

Only trouble with that is that sometimes you can get interference (eg buzzing lines, static) on the vga connection if you're using the on board card. But it shouldn't matter too much with DVI as long as you set the refresh rate of the monitors the same. ;) Or you could just get a cheap gpu with multiple inputs :)

That seems to be the case for... more advanced/sophisticated programming rather than the regular. I've never experienced any of those monstrosities you're mentioning, but I do hear a lot of people saying C++ is better (unfortunately these people were biased towards that language. Have yet to see a sole Java user say anything in defense of the programming language).

If it's so terrible then what's your opinion on android apps, to which they're based on Eclipse code?

While I find lots of cons to Java, there's a ton of good things too: OSGi, WebStart, Swing, JNDI, Hibernate, and (oddly enough, given my earlier complaint) Spring are all very nice tools that expose the language's capabilities quite well without the need for extensive dependencies that can do just about anything you want it to do. Additionally, large-scale internet systems are usually based upon Java technologies such as Web Sphere and JBoss which offer much more robust application development than a stock Apache HTTPD / Lighttpd / Nginex CGI system. Back when I did JEE programming, I was amazed at how rapid I could stand up an application in Java under the JBoss supported frameworks that were both scalable and reliable without any additional knowledge outside of JBoss and Java. It simply worked. To do the same in C or Ruby would require you to learn a bunch of crap that doesn't really mean that much to the language just to stand it up. While Ruby has moved quite a bit further ahead with Rails / Sinatra and it's ActiveRecord / WeBrick systems, it still feels clunky (however, Torque is a really nice balance of Rails with JBoss that hits a sweet spot for me). So, if I were to say anything about Java in good light, I'd say that it's the most easy to pick up and write something that is useful in a short time with. Heck, it's the reason I have the job I currently have, even though I now code in System Integration languages now.

I believe in the ol' unix philosophy of Do only one thing, and one thing good and use the right tool for the right job. Java seems like its a bit stretched a bit too far from its original roots to continue to evolve into a truly awesome framework (although the FX framework seems quite nice now).

Regarding the smartphone thing: the embedded application realm is a different story from the desktop realm that is quite different (i.e. the goto means something other than "don't you dare use" in the embedded world). Sadly, I've never written an Android Java or Apple Objective-C app in my professional career, so I can't really speak to it or try to compare it to something else, though I'd imagine it's similar to writing an application to a platform such as XBox or Arduino, which is a farcry from what Java's calling appears to be.

Interesting. You really do seem to know your stuff to an extensive level.. Mind I ask what you do for a living? As for me, I'm only a student and my knowledge with these sort of things are extremely limited. I asked about Android applications because I was thinking about delving into that field (just in my spare time) and their developer's site recommends Java. So to see so many setbacks as you've mentioned, it came off as peculiar for a successful company like Google to rely on something that you deemed very unreliable. But as you said it has its strong points.

Another question if you may (trying to soak up knowledge here): What language would you prefer to write web applications? Is Java good with that sort of thing?

I'm a Systems Integrator / LSS Process Engineer (Green Belt) by trade, and I research AI focused on aural signal processing on my own time. Simply put, I create the glue to make many pieces of software look like one thing and optimize business processes through LSS events (or even more simply: Geek). For Android development right now, there's no real replacement for Java. While you can build the code using native C code, documentation is scarce, and most pro devs jumped to Java as that's where the market currently is at. Another choice is to learn a meta-language like Marmalade or Corona where you can write the code in something proprietary once, and have it work across many platforms, but from my experiences these end in disaster (such as haxe's (http://haxe.org/) bloody history).

Neko Koneko I like how the toolbar is placed vertically. I would like to try that. How is it done?

Edit: never mind. I found out.
