A button on your keyboard called Prt Scr (near the F12 key) takes a nice little photo of your desktop and copys it. After you press the button, go into MS paint and paste it there. And there you have it!

the prt screen button shares it with another use....


prt screen is blue... the other use is in white

press that button... the other use comes into play

hold down the Blue Fn key and then press prt screen (also blue) makes prt screen... that works.....

some are specail... normal keyboards have prt screen work normally just by pressing it once (or twice)

I would recomend the pen tool because with lasso's, when you mess up you either make with or start over. Pen tools lets you just ctrl+alt+Z and go back.

Lasso tool works with that too, you know? Just lasso small bits at a time.

@Mies: I'll be joining you in Linux once I got an external HD for my laptop. I'll be using Gnome though, KDE is as bloathed as Windows XP is.

Really cool program I wanted to share, lets you see the earth and place markers on cities (to display the local time) really usefull for some, a nice distraction for others. Can be set as wallpaper or screensaver.

as far as I can tell not a resource hog (I set it to update evry 10 min and its only using 12mb of ram)

EDIT - or you could just try putting it on your 'puter. Linux doesnt take as much room as Windows does.

That's a LIVE version of Linux. While it is very useful, it also has it's limitations. For one, it has to install required programs into your ram before you can boot. Once done it boots, and you have a nice desktop with no programs or desktop configuration (unless you previously configured it before burning the CD/DVD of the LIVE Distro). Then you go into the menu and select a program to run and it has to install it before it will run. This is fine. The install is on the disk, but it gets a little annoying after a while.

While a Local install of Linux, it saves your configurations, programs are click and go, launches programs faster, uses your hard drive rather than your ram (this is good for people that only have 128 MB of ram), and several other things.

And Linux uses a different file system than windows (ext2, ext3, and the more popular reiserfs), so installing it to your hard drive that already has Windows on it requires to you cut your windows partition down. Linux cannot write to NTFS from a standard install, meaning you cannot delete individual NTFS files, or move them around. Yes, you can move them to the reiserfs partition, but you are just duplicating the file.

On a side note, ext3 and reiserfs are Journaled partition systems. This means that it is very, very hard (if not impossible) to framgent the drive. NTFS just fragments itself from accessing the swap partition on the hard disk.

Even then Linux hates Windows. You have a 1/3 chance that you will lose the ability to Load Windows if install Linux. I forget the reason why. Something about corrupting the Windows' swap, or Hard Drive mounting issues. You can repair this, if you understand how mounting and partitioning works on both windows and linux; this can get quite complex sometimes. The simple fix: Choose windows or linux and stick with just one.

Honestly, there are only one real reasons to use Linux:

Development. The system is filled with editible code! If I wanted to, I could build the system up off of modified source code. The primary installer for linux systems is sourcecode builds (usually in a .tar.gz, .tar.bz, or just .tar). Not to mention it's very, very stable; secure; and almost impossible to mess something up without it being intentional.

If you're not planning on learning such things, stay with windows. While Linux may be secure and stable, Windows has far better Hardware/Software support. And, even though Linux has obtained a Graphical Interface, Windows is still easier to pick up. This is pro'lly because it has been the mainstream operating system since Windows 3.11 for workstations came out. Linux isn't nessesarly difficult. It is just different from what Windows users are used to.



Angelic has the right plan. Back everything up, install linux, and restore irreplacible data.
