Your set is okay, but it lacks too much in quality. If you are using Photoshop, try the "Save for web" option so you can have it looking good, but not to give it a huge size.

Sig - 6.5/10 - It&#39;s nice how you tried to make the whole thing sort of combined with the continuation of the green background. Only problem is that it looks a bit.. obvious? that the background has been duplicated like that, so it doesn&#39;t look very smooth. Also, some of the background looks a bit pixelly too, so that&#39;s not very good for the smoothness of the whole thing. The font of the text is good, it matches well, although with the busy background, it&#39;s a bit hidden away in a way.. :heh: But overall, a good effort, it&#39;s easy to see the effect that you were after. A border might have been nice too ~

Thanks for the suggestions - I&#39;ll try and do something a bit more imaginative with the top part of the background and maybe do something about the background to the text so it&#39;s not drowning. The reason it&#39;s pixelated is because I accidentally saved it as a JPG instead of a BMP at one point when I was working on it. Normally I save it as a JPG at the end which blurs the shading and makes it look better but because I&#39;d done it before it was ready it made the top bit go peculiar. I don&#39;t have Paintshop Pro or anything like that so the whole thing was done in Paint, hence it&#39;s not really anything fancy :)

it still looks great id give it 7/10 although green..........would of done better a kinda dark blue

Awww, shucks :sweatdrop: I&#39;ve never had Paintshop so I&#39;ve just invented ways of doing what I want in Paint. Most stuff I do on paper rather than on the computer but I&#39;ve found ways of laying graphics over backgrounds in Paint and doing shading. It takes a long time but it works okay for me for lack of anything else :) Maybe one day when I&#39;m less poor I&#39;ll get hold of Paintshop or something ;)

I&#39;d give your set an 8.5/10 since the sig border doesn&#39;t really match the avatar border. Seperately I&#39;d give the avatar a 10/10 because it&#39;s high quality and I like the border. I&#39;d give the sig 8.5/10 because I find the background colour doesn&#39;t really go with the image and the background is quite sharp whereas the foreground is softened. However I still like the border and the text fits well.

I did that on purpose. The poem it comes from is very sterile and although it&#39;s slightly grim it takes a hollowly optimistic approach to death. I thought black and white as well as mixed morbid, stark and elegant imagery would be the best way to achieve this.

Okie, matter resolved, time to continue this thread ~

Your sign is okay, but the background looks too "hard" compared to the character. Also, the character image is cut at the top and bottom, it&#39;s just a bit too small it seems. I don&#39;t like the border style, a border should go around an image, not be inside it. I like the character though, and the avatar looks nice. I&#39;ll just say the signature needs some work.. and it&#39;s not really of my taste I guess :heh:

Like Ayanami said, you can&#39;t see the char in the sig. That&#39;s rather dissapointing.

Your set has a god colour scheme that matches the character, but the low .jpg quality makes it look bad. I&#39;d suggest you remake it in Photoshop and use the "Save for Web" function. There you can choose a high quality jpg format, without creating a huge filesize.

The low quality on Sondagger&#39;s sig/ava is my fault. I&#39;m working on doing the border&#39;s in PS but I find it a lot easier to just do them in paint so I tend to keep them as jpeg&#39;s. Once I can get a satisfactory result with PS then I&#39;ll be sending Sondagger a higher quality version.

Edit: I figured out what was wrong with my PS. Here&#39;s higher quality versions of the set I posted earlier.

Try not to save it as a low quaity JPEG. If your program lets you decide formats and such, then try either higher JPEG formats, or the PNG format.

I only just installed Photoshop 7.0 yesterday, and I&#39;ve been experimenting. I came up with this sig. Sig-The white space surrounding your name is choppy, and the blue-white in the top right corner looks out of place. The text stands out, and that&#39;s good, but the sig needs a border (Layer>Layer Style>Stroke). If the illustartion was drwn in PS, that&#39;s a plus, but the leaves kind look like marijauna leaves. (even thogh they&#39;re maple leaves) :blink: Overall, I give it a 7/10

What do you mean, Inu-chan? Every time I&#39;ve used photoshop I&#39;ve loved the little toolbar thingo that lets you step back and undo as much as you like.... But maybe it&#39;s only in the older versions... I&#39;ve just gotten paintshoppro, and that&#39;s been pretty exciting - I&#39;m just waiting to get out of exams so I can _really_ start experimenting ^^*

.. As for the sig-thing - I like it. The simple style really suits the simple, happy image of Inuyasha :) Perhaps you could make the leaves slighlty larger so that they&#39;re more in proportion to Inuyasha? They prolly would be more obvious then, too. :)

I actually don&#39;t mind the ripple effect on the stars - I think they look cute :) Maybe you could carry that across to the other side of the image, to balance it a little more? At the moment it&#39;s a bit empty in that central section, but I think that if you made the leaves a touch bigger and perhaps added an extra star then that&#39;d work out fine. We don&#39;t really want to detract from the picture of Inuyasha and your name, though...

But I have to say, for someone who hasn&#39;t had the program very long you&#39;re doing a great job&#33; I still can&#39;t use anything but the line tool and gradient tool in photoshop, and I&#39;ve had access to it for the past two years&#33; :&#092;

and thanks so much to gand for fixing up the undo problem. i tried the ctrl+alt+z and it worked&#33; It saved me too much time and i managed make this one in a lot less time. I&#39;m already using the sig, so you can just see and whatever from that.

Nice&#33;&#33; I _do_ like the leaves being bigger.. And the stars look nice like that, too, rather than having their weird ripply effect.. . Now, onto the next one :)

Put the characters behind the border, I personally wouldn&#39;t make the border that thick but that&#39;s a matter of taste, and most importantly: download some new fonts (last time I checked Dafont.com had some decent fonts for download)

one way to make an average font seem less average is to use the layer effects, like bevel&emboss and outer glow. you get a preview change the settings as you fit while referring to it.

the "impulse" in my sig is just dot-drawn, enlarged then had emboss and outer glow used on it. see how much difference it makes

I&#39;ve chucked a thingo I did about five minutes ago down the bottom here.. It&#39;s not really a sig - it&#39;s actually a goodluck card I did for one of my friends... :P I&#39;m just working out how to use paintshoppro... But does anyone know how you do gradients like you can in photoshop? I haven&#39;t worked that out yet, but I&#39;m sure the function must be there ... some where... :&#092; I wanted to do a gradient border rather than those lines, but I couldn&#39;t figure it out....

I also need to somehow make my pictures transparent.. or put the lines onto a different background... I&#39;m not sure how to go about that, either - I really didn&#39;t want that white background thing, but that&#39;s &#39;cos it&#39;s from the paper I drew on&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;

Lina - Interesting pencil drawing for your avatar, did you do it yourself? She looks mightily annoyed about something ;) Regarding your good luck card - I think you&#39;ve made pretty good use of the sun beams, especially with the positioning of your drawing, though the girl looks a bit funny with the blurry blue face&#33; I like the simplicity of it, but I think you should have a more ornate border as the blunt lines don&#39;t match with the grace of the picture. madmaz - yeah, I did the pics for both my avvy and for that goodluck card. I agree also that the border in the goodluck card doesn&#39;t quite work, but I haven&#39;t figured out how to do any intricate borders yet X_X - mainly &#39;cos I&#39;m meant to be studying and feel guilty whenever I sit back and try to do something for myself :( I&#39;ll chuck a bigger image of my avvy down the bottom - I drew the pic by accident, but I reckon she looks betrayed, so I used "betrayal" as the word.. or something like that, anyway....

I liked your sig, by the way. It isn&#39;t as "pretty" as other peoples, but it&#39;s nicely composed and the colours all suit... Plus it makes me think of chocolate, which is a good thing ^^*

Your Best Nightmare - that one sort of freaked me out.... I&#39;m not too fond of scary things.... :( But as an image it is very nice... It&#39;s just a bit too kowai for me.. X_X

hmmm... I was just playing and made up this sig type of thing.. Tell me what you think, blah blah blah ^-^ .... I found some cool new functions in psp while I was doing it, too.. ^^* I think it needs something else in the top left corner, though.. And I wasn&#39;t quite happy with my font colours.. Also I wasn&#39;t too sure about my placement of the green dragon in the background... But hey, as I do it more often I&#39;ll get more confident.... And now my study break&#39;s over I&#39;d better get back to it =.=

Characters don&#39;t blend in very well with the background, and the purple font in the first avatar doesn&#39;t fit colourwise.

Yeah, as Angelic said, the purple text doesn&#39;t fit very well. Don&#39;t think the font fits very well with the pose either.. :mellow:
The second set I prefer, but the text is *very* difficult to read. X_X And the background doesn&#39;t seem to fit too well with the character either..
I think you might want to think about.. making bits and pieces of the set match. So you have a general colour scheme or something.. a general style.. :heh: Instead of having a mix and match of spiffy things.

Er.. that was a bit vague wasn&#39;t it..? :heh: Like you have bits and pieces of it to match. Remember that the set comes as a whole, not bits and pieces ~ The overall look is what matters.
