Nope, no luck. No matter where I am, when I tell it to delete a file, it just comes up with the "deleting file" dialog and hangs there forever. If I try deleting it from the command prompt, it just acts like it deleted it even though it didn't. If I use Killbox to try deleting it, it just says the file cannot be deleted. And my Explorer keeps on hanging and restarting for no reason. It's some serious bullshit. I don't feel like reformatting, but it looks like I might have to. What a stupid problem!

If you haven't already, try using a different anti virus to scan it and use a different anti spyware. You could also try some sort of computer tech forum.

You could also try just simple things defragging your computer then trying to delete the file or check the hard drive for errors.

It might also be a problem with windows explorer, try stopping it in the task manager then starting it again by clicking on the 'new task' button and typing in 'explorer.exe' (((BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS THOUGH))) Its worked for me in the past but be careful since its kind of vital to running windows.

Where did you get the file from anyway? I might be able to assist you if you'd like (since I'm a good Samaritan and don't have anything else to do).

Did HijackThis (http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/) or malware bytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) tell you anything abut the file? Are you certain that it really is bad? Have you tried to delete the file in a live OS such as Fedora (http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora) or Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download)?

You do. It's called depression. It comes from either being overwhelmed by your goals, or having no goals to strive towards. There really isn't any other reason anybody would want to sleep for that long. Kekekekekekeekeke. >:3

Or maybe you just have a sleeping disorder and aren't getting quality sleep for some reason. Are you tired if you wake up after eight hours of sleeping, or do you just sleep extra long because you don't see any reason to do otherwise? Five hours a day is a lot of time to waste. If you live to be 85, and continue your current sleeping habits, it'll be the same as wasting almost twenty years of your life time. Next time you reach for the snoose button, think about that! Twenty years is a lot of time to throw away just because it feels nice, right? XP

Sleeping is for the dead, Eternal! Fighting is for the living! Fight, fight, fight!
lulz. X3

i like sleeping cos i have nice dreams :) they're either really intense or super sweet. and haha really me? depression? oh my. i didnt see that coming...
when i think about it, i wouldn't mind wasting 20 years of my life sleeping. it kinda has an idk melancholy bittersweetness taste to that thought. I like people a lot. I like life a lot. I don't always like dealing with everything and I like sleep as time to myself :)

When a person feels that their dreams are better than real life to the point in which they desire more sleep is a sign that they are dissatisfed with their current life and wish to find an escape, either consciously or subconsciously. It's the first cue to show if a person is suffering from depression. Normally, the most one can sleep in one session should not exceed 12 hours regularly. Beyond that point, the sleep should feel painful and undesirable.

YES! Thank you so much, Angelic! I've been trying to delete that stupid file for like a week now, and nothing has worked. Except Unlocker, just now, hahah. What's more, it looks like whatever evil power that file held over my computer has been banished, because explorer.exe seems to be working correctly again. lol, I said it first! It applies to me, too, which is why my introspective self already knew what sleeping too much means. The best thing to do is to get up after eight hours of sleep regardless of what you feel like. I always feel great when I do! Besides, being depressed just means that you have some obstacles you need to tackle. You can't tackle much of anything if you're sleeping all day. Sleeping too much is a depressing death spiral into despair, lulz. =)

Running and exercise help too. It takes a lot energy to feel miserable, believe it or not. If you're exhausted, there's no way you can feel depressed. It's impossible! X3

Well, there's the polar side of things too. For instance, I don't sleep much at all. If I'm lucky I get six hours, but most times I sleep only four, and, sometimes, I don't sleep at all. This is a sign that I have too much mental fatigue and have high stress levels that will likely take years off of my life.

ChristopherArmalite

Yikes...I guess I know what you mean by that. There was a time when I was only getting like 3-4 hours of sleep a day.

Also, and this is probably the only time you'll ever see me use this word.
Shit. I got hit with the Antispyware Soft virus...

I don't know where it came from or when I got it. All I know is that several minutes ago, it was fine (I'm on my desktop by the way...the laptop's the one that got hit). So uh, I've been reading up a few tutorials on how to remove it, I plan to do each and every single one of them. Hopefully it'll be gone.

Oh, and for good measure, I'm also planning on backing up every single one of my files (the ones I need anyways like school stuff, anime, music, etc.) and then doing a system restore. Should I do it or is it unnecessary? You can't really be too sure...especially in my case, it's pretty much the first time I got hit with a virus like this (and usually, we just normally reformat the entire thing >>;; )
Yeah, this is pretty much also the first time I'm trying to REMOVE it than nuke my laptop.

Viruses are serious, but normally not lethal to your computer's data. Simply removing the infected files should be sufficient. If you want to be safe, you can do all of the removal guides, but doing one from an authority (McAffe, Trendmicro, Symantic...) The problem with Antispyware Soft is that it's a seeking virus, meaning that if a network device is discoverable, it will try to spread to that system. So, what likely happened is that you have network file sharing or network discovery turned on and someone entered your network domain and it cross-infected your machine.

That's most likely what happened. The past two days, my brother was experimenting with wireless printing + I was sharing files with a friend of mine for a project of ours.
But if that was the case, then it might've been the latter. I should tell her to check if her computer's fine.

I had AVG installed on my laptop for a long time now (full version, not the demo), I don't exactly know how it managed to slip through and infect my laptop but I managed to disable it from running right now (something about safe mode and disabling it from the startup processes or something). I also downloaded Malwarebytes and am now in the process of scanning the laptop. It found 1 infected file so far.

I suppose the fact that it's been disabled (disabled but still lurking in my laptop) means any threat of spreading or getting worse is gone...after my Malwarebytes scan/delete to make sure it's gone, I'll start backing up everything and just do a complete wipe. It's no big deal, I have all the installers for the programs I've ever had somewhere in there anyways. It's just a matter of saving everything before I do it.

EDIT: I just went through 3-4 different solutions and it's still there. I'm going to try a System Restore (I plan to roll it back to 3-4 days ago) and if that still doesn't work, I'll do a complete reformat.
I'd do the format right now if I could. My brother is at work right now and I'm pretty sure he'd want to keep his files too >_>
So I'll only do the system restore for now

EDIT2: I THINK that fixed it. I mean I don't see the .exe on msconfig anymore and my laptop's running smoothly once again. I'm doing a scan with AVG right now just in case. Hopefully, it's gone

From my personal experience, AVG really is shit. Not nearly as bad as synaptic, but it's certainly does not do it's job that well for preventing intrusions. In fact, very few antivirus clients have a good on-demand scanner. The only one I truly liked was NOD32, but I'm too cheap to pay for the client. Instead, I don't use antivirus clients anymore and instead do weekly scans using tools like hijackthis or malwarebytes and manually kill any infection. So far, it's proven to be successful.

I dunno, this has been the first time AVG failed me. It always kept my computer virus-free...but regardless should I keep Malwarebytes running alongside AVG? or would that cause interference? I don't really know how to manually kill infections as I've said before I normally just reformat it whenever I get a virus.

But it's so much easier to stop it right at the router with an iptable rule. Then, your computer doesn't need a firewall, and everyone within your domain is protected. That's actually how I handle blocking ad sites (no plugins necessary).

I'm starting to think the Ibanez isn't for me though...it doesn't really play smoothly for me (or maybe because I still need to configure it...) but either way, I might look into a Fender, like the one you have =3

This Ibanez guitar is really meant for heavy metal/hard rock and well suited for shredding and sweeps...which I don't really do much of/don't know how to do. BUT, I do play the occasional song where overdrive/heavy distortion is needed and when I play songs like that, I get reminded why I like this guitar XD
I'll still be looking for another guitar though...an all-rounder of sorts

EDIT: I also want to buy a Bass guitar sometime. AND an electric drum set (but I don't really have the money for them XD)

Ukuleles generally don't sound as... awesome as guitars (the noise of the ukulele gets drowned out by virtually everything else)... I'm not sure if there are electric ones, but it's really hard to get sounds out >_<
There are different sized ukuleles, you know? I don't know what they'd be drowned out by, unless you're playing in a rock band or something. I'll be picking up a tenor ukulele:

They sound fuller than the soprano ukulele everyone knows, but they still sound happier than guitar. A good trade off, I think.

Chances are your Truss rod is too tight. http://www.taylorguitars.com/global/pdfs/truss_rod_adjustment.pdf

If that doesn't work, try raising your bridge a little bit. (Loosen the screws on both sides of your bridge. I don't know how your guitar is right now, so this may or may not help).

Anyways, here is my baby. Crappy phone pictures anyways.

It was originally an ESP Viper 50, but I threw in EMG pickups (60/81). I love their sound. They're crunchy as hell with distortion, and my neck pick up is soooo bluesy when it's clean. Alot of neck pick ups sound all dampered, but this pick up sounds so clean.

I messed around a bit with that stuff, it seems a lot better now, thanks :D

Cool, glad I could help. I've never brought my guitar to a shop before. I think I'd only bring it to a shop if I physically broke something on it. I did all the rewiring for my pickups myself, it really isn't too difficult. Guitars are pretty simple, you just need to take the time to learn a little bit about their structure and what not. Anyways, I had a problem with my low E string buzzing a while ago. Turns out it had just worn into the nut groove really badly (That little groove the string sets in before the tuning pegs) I ended up sticking a tiny bit of a tooth pick in the nut groove to hold it up a bit better xD.

xD, i'm moderately sure it takes more than a week of practice to get a good fastball that consistently goes over the plate.

Took me a good month of training to throw a straight fastball. Like azn said, it's not easy to throw a ball consistently, and some try for years to obtain satisfactory results.

And now for the questions that need to be filled in:

Are you throwing over, under, or side arm?
Are you following a particular form, or are you just throwing the ball? If form, what type of training have you done for it?
Are you using your dominant leg as support and your other as counter balance for your throw?
Are you following through with your throw after the release? If so, are your eyes following the ball, or the follow through?
How much of the ball are you gripping and where exactly are you gripping the ball? Using how many fingers?
In a game of catch, how many times do you miss your partner? How many times do you not make it to your partner?

Alright, good. It feels like that's about how long it'll take me too. It feels really slow, especially since you can only pitch so many times a day. It's a little frustrating, hahah.

# Are you throwing over, under, or side arm?
Over.

# Are you following a particular form, or are you just throwing the ball? If form, what type of training have you done for it?
I'm winding up and such. I figure it'll help my muscle memory if I wind up every time. As for form, I'm just going by what my friend has shown me. Keeping my arms wide and such, or trying to. He keeps on telling me I'm keeping my arms too close to my body. It's probably because throwing correctly KILLS MY ARM and my body is instinctively trying to save my poor elbow. I'm sure it won't be as bad when I get my form down, but for now, throwing it 'correctly' feels like I'm going to break my arm in half after any extended pitching session, hahah.

# Are you using your dominant leg as support and your other as counter balance for your throw?
Trying to!

# Are you following through with your throw after the release? If so, are your eyes following the ball, or the follow through?
Again, trying to. My friend told me to 'look through the catcher' and to keep my head level. When I actually follow his advice, things go more smoothly. Sadly, when I get even a little tired, my form starts to fall apart, hahah. My arm always ends up past my left leg after a throw (I'm right handed), so I think I'm following through enough.

# How much of the ball are you gripping and where exactly are you gripping the ball? Using how many fingers?
I'm practicing four-seam fastballs right now. Two fingers and thumb, lol.

# In a game of catch, how many times do you miss your partner? How many times do you not make it to your partner?
I have trouble throwing it over the plate consistently, but my friend can almost always catch my balls without moving his feet. He does, however, need to move his arm a lot, hahah. My distance sucks. I'm going to ask him to start playing some long range catch with me (no arcing), and see if I can't improve my distance. My form is terrible, which is why my pitches have no power behind them. I'm easily stronger than my friend, but he throws across the god damned field, and I throw like sixty feet. ;___;

So, hopefully I can throw something decent in a month or so. I'd like to play with my friends by July or so, but I'm terrible right now, heheh. How fast is your fastball, roughly, M? After your form shaped up, was there a big difference in speed from when you started, or was it mostly just your control that improved in a month? I'm hoping I'll be throwing a lot faster soon, because my fastball really is ridiculously slow right now.

The worst thing about this is that if I want to pitch every day, I figure I can only pitch 20-30 serious pitches a day. If I could pitch as long as I wanted without hurting my arm, I'd just pitch for five hours straight a day and get this initial learning hump over with. Right now, it's not fun for my friend, because he throws me all awesome ~80 mph pitches straight down the plate for me over and over again when I'm at bat, and then I repay him by throwing him all ridiculous balls or 10mph "fast"balls. So, I'd like to fix my control and speed as soon as possible!

Over.

This form of pitching takes the longest to perfect, but it provides the most powerful pitches from the get go. The good news it that almost everyone does it, so you're likely to find lots of help on the subject matter.

Sounds like you're doing the classic pitching form. When you do this right, your body should feel like a spring. Taking the mit and glove down, stretching your pitching arm up as high as you can (releases tension), dragging it down while flexing the muscle, dragging the arm backward with your shoulder and waist, pushing upward with your elbow and start to twist around the waist, and pushing with your body weight and biceps the ball allowing all the control to be done with your wrist and fingers. On the follow through, using the leg that's on the same side as your pitching arm to counterbalance and continuing the throw motion with your arm until it reaches your leg.

That should cause the least amount of strain on your body, as you follow the pattern of stretching, flex, strain, slow release, repeat.

Trying to!

This is bad. Don't do this. Use your other leg as your support.

Good. A funny thing about a human's psychology is that wherever a person may look, is where the person's intentions go. If you're looking through the pitcher, that means that you're psychologically prepared.

I'm practicing four-seam fastballs right now. Two fingers and thumb, lol.

Finger's on the seams or on the pads? How deep is the ball in your hand?

I have trouble throwing it over the plate consistently, but my friend can almost always catch my balls without moving his feet. He does, however, need to move his arm a lot, hahah. My distance sucks. I'm going to ask him to start playing some long range catch with me (no arcing), and see if I can't improve my distance. My form is terrible, which is why my pitches have no power behind them. I'm easily stronger than my friend, but he throws across the god damned field, and I throw like sixty feet. ;___;

The best workout for increasing your distance is using band training to increase the muscle mass, and practising balance. Take a resistance band and lock one of it's ends on a stable surface. Then take the other end with your pitching fingers and slowly go through the throwing part of your form.

For balance, try placing a bunch of weight down on one of your sides and stand on a beam with your pivot foot.

My fastball sucks because I used to throw sidearm, which can do techniques easier, but is not very fast. When I started using a form, my speed did not increase, but my control did, allowing me to curve the ball far too much (went from half a bat to a full bat curve; allowing my curves to beam the batter). For a speed, I averaged at about .55 of a second to the plate, making it about 70 MPH. My fastest was 75 MPH, but I could only throw about four of those a game, and then I was done.

By the way, never throw sidearm. It kills your shoulder a lot more.

The worst thing about this is that if I want to pitch every day, I figure I can only pitch 20-30 serious pitches a day. Indeed, when I get lucky and everything comes together, I feel like a giant spring, and the ball goes straight and much faster than usual. I'm going to practice a little bit more tomorrow, focusing on loosening up a little. When I overthink things, my timing goes to shit, and nothing works out right, hahah.

This is bad. Don't do this. Use your other leg as your support.
Eh...by dominant leg, I meant my left, since it's always been my stronger leg, and it's the leg I kick with in soccer in things. We might be talking about different legs. I start on my right foot, letting my left leg come up during my wind up. I start turning my body and my left leg to face more towards the plate, and try to release as I plant my left leg in front of me. I follow through with my right leg up in the air a bit, my throwing arm past my left leg. Or at least, that's what happens when I time everything right. I'm a pretty awkward pitcher right now.

Good. A funny thing about a human's psychology is that wherever a person may look, is where the person's intentions go. If you're looking through the pitcher, that means that you're psychologically prepared.
Yeah, when my friend noticed my aim was off, he gave me that piece of my advice, and my next ball flew straight into his mitt. Then I thought "holy shit, it works!" and my concentration was shot for the rest of the day and I could barely pitch straight anymore. Like I said, I'm going to try and loosen up tomorrow by myself. It's harder to concentrate when I feel like I'm wasting my friend's time. XP

Finger's on the seams or on the pads? How deep is the ball in your hand?
Index and ring across the seams, thumb on the pad underneath, in the middle of the two of them. Completely out of my palm.

For balance, try placing a bunch of weight down on one of your sides and stand on a beam with your pivot foot.

Like I said, my arms are about twice as big as my friends, so I'm not sure muscle mass is a problem...maybe muscle coordination or arm flexibility or something though. I've read that the bands are good, so I may give them a try. I think I probably just need to work on my flexibility, though. Is my pivot foot the foot I land on? That's the foot that pivots as I'm following through, so I'm assuming it is...

My fastball sucks because I used to throw sidearm, which can do techniques easier, but is not very fast. I'd be very happy throwing 70 right now, hahah. Did you reach 70 after a month and then improve more slowly after that? Is pitching an "easy to learn, impossible to master" kind of thing, where you get better very quickly at the beginning and then plateau? Or is pitching something that you just get slowly better at, even at the beginning? Again, I ask because I'd like to play with my friends this summer, and it'd be great if I was a semi-competent thrower by then.

By the way, never throw sidearm. It kills your shoulder a lot more.
Indeed, I've heard.

That's a muscular and stretching problem. Do the earlier mentioned exercises and you'll be fine after a while.
Yeah, I think pitching is using some muscles I didn't really know I had. My biggest problem is definitely my flexibility though; it's terrible.

Thanks for the advice, M.

Ah, so you step forward when pitching.

What I was writing about was basically if you were to keep one leg in one spot and using your waist for the twist. With this, the "dominant" leg is the leg from the same side as your pitching hand, which is used for counterbalancing the twist after the pitch. The pivot leg is the other leg which you twist around. Thus, when you wind for a pitch, you raise your pivot leg, and then during the throw, you switch legs and pivot over the planted foot, using your dominate leg for counterbalance.

So, if you're pitching left handed, you got this right. Otherwise, you're backwards.

Index and ring across the seams, thumb on the pad underneath, in the middle of the two of them. Completely out of my palm.

Very good. Most make the mistake that azn mentioned which is to pack the ball all the way in the hand. That kills a lot of the backspin needed to throw a good fastball.

Like I said, my arms are about twice as big as my friends, so I'm not sure muscle mass is a problem...maybe muscle coordination or arm flexibility or something though. The pivot foot is the foot I described earlier as being planted during the pitch.

I reached 70 after about a year of playing (I can't remember what I originally threw at for comparison), and then I hit my plateau.

Pitching is very much an impossible to master thing, as a body can only do so many in it's lifetime. And, like any sport, the more you do something, the less you will be able to do it in the future, and the better you will become at it.

???? Don't I have it right? I throw right handed, with my left foot pivoting, my right leg acting as counterbalance during my follow-through.

Bleargh, that's what I was afraid of. Ah well, I'll just keep practicing and hope for the best, I guess. Even if I just get my control to be solid, I guess that's good enough for the Summer.

Infractions are a private matter. No one is supposed to know when someone gets an infraction and not. Only when the user that receives the infraction talks about it does the staff discuss the matter in the open. Cody very well could have obtained an infraction. But until he talks about it, we will not discuss this in the open.

Threw over a hundred pitches today, and saw some good improvement. I'm really happy.
I watched a bunch of videos of pitchers in slow motion and then copied them (in slow motion) like a hundred times. Then I did it faster and faster. It helped a lot, and I can't wait to pitch some more tomorrow. =D

M
May 5th, 2010, 03:09 am
Well, there's only 255168 possible games (http://www.btinternet.com/~se16/hgb/tictactoe.htm) (26830 if you want to hurt yourself with algorithms) to Tic-Tac-Toe. Just write an intelligent agent that can pathfind quickly using these rules (the easiest being a parallel partition pushdown automata; you may be able to get more speed using a Embedded Stack Automaton). The nice thing about TicTacToe is that it's highly deterministic, thus you don't have to do anything hairy like fuzzy logic, machine learning, or filters. Instead, you just have to worry about shortest path algorithms and a simple yes/no answer. Heck, if you really want to confuse your professor, you could do this with a simple weighted linked list algorithm where the weight is the number of winnable games after this node is done, simply selecting the game with the highest chance of winning, and completely screw determinism with overbearing statistics.

And please tell me the AI isn't being written in something like VB or Perl. I'd commit suicide something like this was given to me and I wasn't granted the ability to use C++ or Lisp/Erlang.

and it's supposed to only learn, not know
and thus makes decisions based on outcomes of previous games.
basically it just looks at a square and asks itself, "what was my success of winning when i moved here?" and compares it to it's success at other squares and makes choices based off that

if there isn't enough information to make such a decision, it just picks randomly and records results of that

Ah, a little too tough for me, then. I was just going to use common sense to assign each move a weight (since there are so few moves available in tic-tac-toe) and have it go from there.
For you noobs watching the speed painting videos, go download Open Canvas and watch event files instead. It plays paintings back frame by frame, keeping all the layers and tool settings in tact. You can pause whenever you want, and even edit the paintings in progress.

And I'm more impressed with the song in M's video than the painting...what song is it? (The first one!)
Also...that wasn't even a speed painting video. It was a twenty minute long video, and it was going about ten times faster than it should have been. That's a fastforwarded paint, not a speed paint. If you want to see paintings and other arts done quickly, then head over to a paint chat. There are some really amazing artists who hang out in those, and pump artwork out ridiculously quickly. =D

Niko's paintchat is a good one!

The whole Lupin chasing the count being chased by Zenigata being chased by the count thing made me smile. I like movies where the focus isn't so much on an evil villain, but on a bunch of different people stuck fighting each other for their own reasons - the relationship between Lupin and Zenigata is hilarious to me.

Ghibli is some of the most "Japanese"/"adult" anime out there, in my opinion, in that it doesn't rely on guns and boobs (loved by both children and your average American) to sell its anime. There's a reason Ghibli movies always smash Japanese box office records.

It's weird. The teacher's gonna choose five people at random on the day of the class out of thirty. The un-chosen ones have to make a poster on global warming crap. I'm planning to improv it in front of the class lol. There's absolutely no time for me to outline/practice all five speeches in an hour.

Bleah, kyoukai. Shiny, for sure. I don't know whether I'd call it "stunning" or "gaudy," though. I didn't think the use (overuse?) of cg blended well at all with the 2D art in kyoukai at all. Everything had a very textured "we did this in photoshop" look to it, which I didn't find especially appealing.

I did think the 2D work in Kyoukai was very nice, though. It's a shame they abused the cg so much in order (I imagine) to cut costs. Have you seen the Ghost in the Shell movie, Sephiroth? I think Kara no Kyoukai was aiming for something like that animation style, but didn't go all the way through with it. I'd check out GitS if you haven't already; you might find the movie a little slow (many people do), but you'll probably like the animation at least.

P.A Works has always done animation like this. Its kinda like how Shaft always uses stop-motion, hard light, and mosaic techniques. And because Kara no Kyoukai is heavily set into mysticism, it would have been way overboard to do the amount of CG as GitS did; it just would not have flowed. Instead, they took the parts that needed to be shiny and made it that way. Think about the Paradox Spiral chapter. If they didn't use CG, it would have come out like a picture from Saya no Uta, pretty, but not living.

And I'm sorry, I don't care what anyone says, Kara no Kyoukai has the best lighting I've ever seen in an anime to date (even that one-man army animator gone commercial (http://anidb.net/a4568)); regardless of how it was done, it's quality.

Eh? K-ON is a series; Kyoukai was a set of movies, wasn't it? I expect different things from them. Besides that, K-ON's art was fine, on the whole. Kyoukai's art was gaudy and ridiculous looking.

P.A Works has always done animation like this. Its kinda like how Shaft always uses stop-motion, hard light, and mosaic techniques. I haven't seen all of them; just watched a bunch of the fight scenes, hahah. The art hurt my eyes, so I decided against watching the rest of them. To be clear, I didn't dislike the 2D artwork in the movie; I thought it was top notch. The CG was great, too. What I didn't like was how they meshed the two together; it was always blatantly obvious that they were doing it, and looked really out of place. For example, I loved the fight scene with all the zombies...I think one threw a fridge at her or something. That was great. I hated the scene where she's fighting those ghost girls on top of the roof (or maybe it was one girl?). I thought the CG was terrible in that scene, with all the pointless spinning and stuff - it looked like the 2D characters where floating on top of a crazy spinning background they just happened to be pasted on top of, instead of actually being in the scene. That scene especially pissed me off, because I couldn't understand why they'd ruin their (very well animated) 2D work by poorly pasting it on top of a background they didn't belong on.

And I'm sorry, I don't care what anyone says, Kara no Kyoukai has the best lighting I've ever seen in an anime to date (even that one-man army animator gone commercial); regardless of how it was done, it's quality.
That hideous untruth you just let loose on the world is making me physically ill. Thank you, bastard. =P
The lighting was interesting looking, but I don't think it was especially good. A lot of the time, it looks like they just threw random rainbow colors all over the background for no reason. The lighting looked out of place a lot of the time, in my opinion. I don't think their understanding of how colors work was very good (compared to other top-tier companies; they're obviously still better than most artists), whereas the backgrounds in the shinkai movies always amaze me with their detail, and the artist's obvious understanding of how the world looks. A lot of the backgrounds really made me ask myself how many hours of painting those crazy bastards must have clocked in during their lives; Kyoukai never made me ask any such questions. Really, the Shinkai movies have some top-notch background work going on; it feels like I'm constantly learning something new from them. A lot of the little things they do with their backgrounds are just incredibly clever, showcasing a mastery of their craft. =D

Easy, flashy tricks to impress the public. Simple, incredibly difficult tricks to impress fellow magicians. Kyoukai is something they'd show at a circus, complete with Bengal tigers and half-naked assistant girls. Thankfully, it seems the public is impressed with both Shinkai and Kyoukai, or I'd be a sad panda. XD

Also, the GitS movie used NO CG, as far as I remember. Which was my point. It looked a lot better than Kyoukai. What CG parts of GitS are you talking about?

Edit: Ugh, just watched some kyoukai scenes. I'm feeling even more ill now; the backgrounds look like they came from a doushinji game. They don't even compare to the works of Shinkai (or K-ON, for that matter), you harlot! And the fighting animation is good, but not great. Just watched the zombie scene again; it looks like one of those stick figure gifs, where a stick figure runs around everywhere killing a million guys. The animation lacked any real sense of weight or momentum - it looked like she was just floating around while flailing about, with zombies exploding all around her for no reason. 7/10!

that paradox chapter confused the hell out of me, i still don't understand the structure to that episode i kinda understood it in the last 5 minutes but still kinda left me like wtf?

As stated in this volume, the Akashic records mentioned in the Vedas illustrate how time and man travel in an ascending circle. The entire chapter of the Paradox Spiral was to reverse the flow and segment reality into two separate entities, along the same spiral but with areas that have filtered similarities. This is a helix. By forming a helix, a completely complementary reality can be spawned. As per Stephan Hawkings, when to identically opposite systems approach one another, they negate one another and cause dysfunction, thus stimulating prakriti.

What Araya did was manipulate their reality to create a helix of negative energy to construct the ultimate nirvana, not much unlike the Emiya family attempted before Kiritsugu from Fate/Stay Zero showed no interest in the land of heroes.

And that's about as high level of an explanation I can give ya. There's a few more cross references between Fate/Stay (or should I say Fate/Stay embellished them) and Tsukihime with how Araya performed the magic, but I doubt anyone wants to hear about the history of the Aozaki family and the history of the Red and Blue mages found in Kinoko Nasu's world. I'm still waiting for Mahoutsukai no Yoru to be released, where much of the magus and vampire lore that's used as an undertone in Natu's stories is more at the forefront. I know it would stop me from scratching my head for over an hour relating stories to Buddhist scripture and western magic systems.
