AOL is really starting to bug me. First I uninstall every AOL product that I had when I was still using AOL service. Then when I install AIM, I find an "aolsoftware" file in it. Then the AOL icon pops up on the taskbar (which also appeared when I had the AOL service)... "connected to AOL".

Anyone know how to get rid of this (besides uninstalling AIM)? I've already tried to delete "aolsoftware.exe", but it says that "Access is denied.".

Dumb AOL... they never want anyone to get rid of their products/files easily, do they :bleh: ?

Boot into safemode, go to C:\Program Files\ and see if you have a folder called Aod. If you do, you should remove it. Also, you'll have to uninstall any Dial Up networking AOL installed manually. If you're not a fan of manual uninstalls, you can find AOL cleaners around the net, but those are exe files, and random exe files likely have viruses.

Also, uninstall Aim and get GAIM or Trillian. Whilst Aim by itself shouldn't cause problems, It's still Aol software that distributes itself into several places on your hard drive.

only use 1 popup blocker and firewall...its a waste of resources AFAIK, for spyware try Spybot S&D and adware SE. Another good AV is avast.

That's not a good idea! Multiple firewalls and multiple virusscanners always get conflicts sooner or later! Only use 1 firewall and 1 virusscanner. For spyware programs it's not so important, though make sure they don't interfere with eachother (like make sure they don't both monitor registry changes).

Depends on the image, really. GIF is crispier but you lose colour depth, JPG has more colours but it'll mess up the image.

Jpg makes it more pixelled( I put it that way). The quality of the picture become disasterous.

Like angelic said, depends on the image. Since the two mentioned are webgraphic related, I'll give a lodown on all the supported webgraphics.

Gifs are better for images that are horizontally similar in color, as to that is how it compresses the data. Gif also contains an alpha layer (transparency) and can be animated, and is lossless in quality. Jpegs saves everything bitwise, reducing the quality by a certain defined percentage that's supposed to be unnoticeable. Pngs are similar to Gif images, but also checks for similar colors downwards and at a diagonal, thus is superior to Gif for solid color pictures, but horrible for images that are dynamic in color.

SVG (scaleable vector graphic) is a new format out for the internet that is not composed of individual pixel data, but rather mathematical equations. Because of this, a SVG can be sized to whatever you want without becoming pixelated (given the right HTML tags), whilst retaining the overall proportions of the image. SVG can also be opened in a standard text editor because it is an XML based format. IE doesn't support SVG natively, but firefox and opera do.

To give an example:
My avatar is a PNG, because of the similar yellow background, the similar hair color, and the pajamas consistent color; whilst my Signature is jpg, because of the lack of solid patterns. I've yet to find an SVG host, so just go here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SVG).
