Edit: Finally took a look at Advance Wars Dual Strike... Seems like players get 2 turns on their tag co power, which is rather evil... Still, I'm rather impressed at how far the AI has come though, save for the occasional suicidal tendencies, they're doing much better as far as producing the right units and staying out of attack range goes. And my fucking university's intranet died. Completely. Even internet access is clunky. After I warned the network team early yesterday that switch closets 10-15 were "flapping" (ip leasing/discovery problems), where closet 11 holds the main ActiveDirectory server, the Student Microsoft Exchange Server, and Secure2 databases; and the wireless network in sectors F-J17, F-G19, F-G20, F-G22, F-H09 were not working at all.

God I sometimes hate the fact that my job, while nearly inclusive to all jobs in the IT group, is modular. With any luck, the dimwits'll run around for three days, call up the guy that quit for the solution that'll pro'lly be something like "reset X and Y level three switches, and expedite the CRON for DNS for a second" and everything will be fixed. The conversation'll last about 15 minutes, where 13 minutes is for explaining the problem.

The absolute BEST part: they have over 20 people in this group explicitly designated to "keeping the network up". You'd think with 24 hour notice they would respond to my message. At least one of them. No, instead, they ignored it, and now connections are failing. Wonderful job at keeping the network up. How about you hire another member to assist in this task?

My subgroup completely supports over 90 classrooms, in addition to delivering equipment on a terse and brutal timetable (often having to be two places at once on a delivery) with a grand total of 2 people working on the supportline. That's all. Heaven forbid that there be more than two workers doing this job at once, for that would make things easy. This includes running to and fro the classrooms when problems occur within 5 minutes of the problem. They have 20, no timetable, and no endusers to fuck things up. All they literally have to do is verify that the log files check out, and they're done, and if it doesn't, reboot the system; remotely.

I may not be in that subgroup or know the most about networking technologies, but I AM a system administrator on both Unix and Windows systems. I KNOW how systems should be run, and how things should be organized. Every time I look at the workers, they flip out their Fluke, watch the red light blink, stare at the switch, turn the power off, turn it back on, test it with the Fluke again, have a red light blink, lather, rinse, repeat; without even attempting to backtrack the problem to the right closet. EVEN BETTER YET, THEY SAY IT'S WORKING OKAY WHEN IT'S NOT WORKING AT ALL, AND SWEAR ON THEIR DEATHBED THAT I'M LYING THAT THE NETWORK IS DOWN! The expression on their face when they realize that it is down is priceless, but it's still frustrating that I have to coax them to go to where the problem is, rather than have them come out to "keep the network up" as their job title dictates. What our network team has is a large case of cancer, and it should be extracted; painfully.

Here's to me heading into work tomorrow without having any of my server connections working and waiting for a solution for three days :drinking:

Yeah, Clannad's story has been kind of...non-existent for most of the second season, which is odd, since it's based on an already-completed story. It seems the story's starting to go somewhere again now, though.

Still, our anime tastes don't match. There have been a few times where I couldn't finish something you loved...and if I recommended every anime I liked to you, I have a feeling I'd be able to say "and vice versa."

Anyway, me and two friends finally put our shinai to good use against one another. The first round was with Ryan. We both took our time, swinging at each other when opportunities came around. I hit him in the arm once, and then in the hand, which ended his fighting for the night. Ryan gave Matt his Shinai, and Matt swung it wildly with all his might like a baseball bat, over and over again. He cracked me good in the hand, which was great; I was pretty sure he'd broken my pinky. But of course, that only made me try harder. I got him once in the leg (hard), once in the head (not very hard), and then he got me back in the arm (hard), and I returned the favor once more to his hand (hard again!). This ended our fighting for the night, too.

We all thought we had broken hands when we came in, but luckily the pain went away after about ten minutes, and we could move our fingers again.

Oh, no no. Our hands were completely fine. It was just that it was less than ten degrees outside here today with the wind chill, so it stung a lot more than it should have, and our hands wouldn't move from being so cold. After our hands warmed up indoors, they were completely okay. We're just using bamboo shinai; no carbon for us. =D

And "no thrusting" was the first rule we made. "Anybody thrusts, and they're getting punched in the face." We didn't need anybody accidentally collapsing a friend's wind-pipe, after all. I don't think a solid thrust to the abdomen would be very fun, either. Internal bleeding is never a good way to end a night between friends, heheh.

So yeah, just slashes. The most you can do with that is give someone a nasty welt, which we all agreed ahead of time would be acceptable and probably unavoidable. Happily, I didn't even end up with one of those, though I think Matt might find a bruise on his leg tomorrow morning.

So yeah, tons of fun! XD

Though if I were you I'd join Kendo and get used to the fundamentals before you pick up bad habits.

Oh, and make sure you check your shinais for splinters often - they can be lethal.

Yet all I've seen that they've done wrong is do some not-so-much-spam posting (mainly because of the "n00b" understanding of our forums) and insulted Gekk then defending themselves in the rebuttals, which I've already talked to them about; both in which I could argue many of our other members do often, myself included.

And my worthless Go rival somehow finally managed to rank up enough to pass me. He was stuck at 19k for like three weeks, so I thought he was hopeless, but apparently not. Now I have to catch up to him by Friday, so I can beat him again.

And I played a game against my teaching buddy today. Losing at Go sucks. So. Bad. I didn't even have a vague idea of what to do against him. Anything I did just seemed to kill me even more. It was horrible. :(

Aye, I know what you're saying. Go is complex enough for their to be enough styles of play for that kind of relationship to come about. I wasn't really down about losing; it just felt like a really bad game to me. I made a lot of mistakes that I shouldn't have. But, you know, there's always next time, hahah. =)

I celebrated by buying a big $25 wall calendar. I had no idea it was $25, but I didn't feel like returning it after I'd brought it to the cash register, because the cashier was kind of cute. It's like "yeah, I can basically afford any calendar I want. I've gotten pretty far in life."

It's a nice calendar, though. Full color scenery photos for every month, hurray! It's one of those motivational poster ones that the internet loves so much. I bought it because it had nail holes in the same place as my calendar from last year, lol.

Ah, my desktop is broken, btw. I tried using the windows "restore to an earlier date" thing, because it was very obviously virused...windows restarted, and said that it couldn't restore. Could someone please explain to me what the point of Windows Restore is if it doesn't work when your computer actually needs to be restored? Anyway, after I restarted it again, I don't have a taskbar or anything anymore. Just my desktop picture and nothing else. I can still run programs via ctrlaltdel, but that's kind of silly. Any fixes?
