It was a dark and stormy night. I had been driving home from the super market, a bit late I might add, but the missus was in dire need of some turnips. While making a turn on Route 16, I spotted something in the middle of the road...a cake by the looks of it. I stopped the car immediately to inviestigate this improbable pastry.
"Hm..." I said as I opened the door and stepped out of the car. I approached the cake and knelt down before it. On it were the words: "Happy Birthday Johnson"
"Hm..." I said. I examined this cake further. It seemed to be covered in what appeared to be hair. Then my gaze wandered over to the side of the road. There was a trail of the very same type of hair from that cake to an oak tree near the road's edge.
"Hm..." I said.

Being quite the curious cat I am, I decided to follow this trail of fur. At the moment, the fact that my car was blocking the road did not concern me. After all, it was a quiet road and it wasn't likely that anyone besides myself would be out this late. When I reached the oak tree, I looked upward. I saw some cake frosting smeared onto one of the branches. Above that, however, appeared to be nothing but shadows.
"Hm..." I said. It had just occured to me that I had a flashlight stowed in the backseat of my car in case of an emergency. Well, this was emergency enough for me. I simply had to find out what was going on here. I walked back to my car to find it vandalized. Good heavens! A message had been scratched onto the hood: "Go away. What you don't see, you don't get killed for." I turned around to find that the cake had vanished!
"Hm..." I said. Now I simply had to find out what was going on here. I quickly grabbed the flashlight and headed for the oak tree...

As I first approached the oak tree, my first thought was: "Hm..." Then my second thought was: "Time to see what's up in that tree." Because at that point I was about to turn on the flashlight and find out what was in that tree. So I did. And what I saw astounded me. Nailed to the top branch of the old oak was a ladder! It seemed to be leading upwards, into the sky!
"Hm..." I said. I was more compelled than ever. Would this ladder lead to the answers I was searching for? Or would it lead to the grisly death that had been threatened by whoever vandalized my car? Knowing that I may not return if I climbed the ladder, I took out my cellphone to call the missus, possibly for the last time. I waited for her to answer, but alas, it was the machine that greeted me. Perhaps it was better this way. There's no telling how the missus may have responded to this. I spoke into the phone.
"Hm..." I said. I did not know what else to say. Eventually I hesitated and hung up. She wasn't a very good missus anyway. I began my ascent towards ladder. There was no turning back.

I was drenched with rain, mercilessly falling from the 'bove as I began my ascent. I was also perspiring quite a bit, due to that treacherous climb, although it was hard to notice, due to the downpour. Finally, I reached the ladder. At long last, this whole ordeal was drawing to a conclusion. Or was it?
"Hm..." I said as I thought this. The ladder turned out to go higher than originally expected. But it mattered not. I continued my climb until I reached the top of the ladder. I had made it. But to what avail? I was about to get my answer. I stood up on what seemed to be...no, it couldn't be...it was. I was standing on a cloud. Though still dark, it no longer rained above me, but below. I examined the cloud I was atop. To my amazement, I could grab a piece off of it! And upon closer examination, I discovered that this cloud seemed to be made of the same subastance that was, quite astoundingly I might add, cake frosting. The very same that had coated that cake that began this fiasco. I was in awe.
"Hm..." I said, because there seemed nothing else to say. Just then, I heard a shout, reminiscent of the screech of a monkey. I turned around to find...
