I just want to double check. This is just in anime right?

Well don't be surprised if you find one who's speaks like it but don't expect to find them either.

It's funny that you claim that Japanese people don't actually do the "desu" because the ones I knew at school all used it :/

You know which desu I'm on about.

Ah, thanks Kou. I don't know any Japanese besides what the ten short lessons I completed in Rosetta Stone taught me a year ago, so I was curious. I know people don't say "desu" after every sentence in real life (obviously!), I was just wondering what the valid uses of the word were. I thought I remembered desu and imasu being verbs of being, but Rosetta doesn't tell you what any words mean, it just wants you to figure it out. Did I figure it out correctly, or?
I know a few people on here are pretty decent at Japanese...Angelic? Kou? M?
Edit: And I watched Ghost in the Shell yesterday. I thought it was amazing. It had a nice story, and the character animation was incredible, especially during the final fight scene with the tank. :3

Careful, I was referring to Paradoxx's ~~desu 'phenomenon', which started because of my original explanation and characters needlessly adding 'desu' again after every line. If not used when you're supposed to (because let's say.. you were trying to avoid sounding like Wapanese wannabe? XD) It's definitely not acceptable in written language and in spoken langauge implies lack of formality (and therefore, manners). Quite possibly (I have no material backup) the origin of the whole ~~desu thing, safer to double up and sound silly than to sound rude.

Tamama from Keroro Gunso did it as well, frequently speaking with lines like:

Ikimasu(correct) -> Ikimasudesu(.. wtf)

The other examples I threw were slightly different in nature, where those replaced desu.(i.e: desu -> de gozaru) Some of them grammatically correct but still isn't used often in RL.

Neko Koneko
January 3rd, 2008, 10:50 am

I never fully understood the rules set on content for signatures, but I'm pretty sure it is free reign, so long as it is not harming anyone mentally (such as, but not limited to: extreme gore, pornography, unwanted or unsuitable material for the general age of the forum, threats, et cetera), and fits the sizing guidlines. I don't think this is so, though, because I remember Angelic forced Hiei to remove the japanese from his user title because it was a foreign langauge.

Thus is my bit of confusion. Honestly I don't care about the subject, so I shouldn't be the one to define the guideline, let alone the authority to do so.

Hot chips are fries, and thickcut fries - dunno if you've got a different name for them - to us fries are the thin things that Maccas serves. We call potato chips - as in the things that the Poms call crisps and americans as far as I know call chips (snackfood) chip, so we call hot chips hot chips to differentiate. And I got weird looks in England callign them Hot Chips, because they just call them chips, and were wondering why there would be any kind but hot.

Yeah, my assumption was right then. (Sorry if my description earlier mislead you, I was talking about steak fries which is resturant style fries that are thickcut (not like french fries), so I'm guessing chips is also known as steak fries in U.S. resturants (although we also use the term chips here for that).

And who remembers me completely destroying proofing Hiei's novella chapters? I've been there, and I do understand; but twenty paragraphs is only about 700-1100 words. That's about a 2-4 page report. That's about the size of an average newsstand article. It's just a matter of how well you handle your English and presentation, and if you chose an appropriate topic.

Not to sound like I have a stick up my ass, but this report sounds like delicious cake; even in reference to when I was in 10th grade.

P.S. It's only about 4300 to 6700 keystrokes, as well.

Stats are using the 250-300 wpp estimate, the 7 words per 5 sentences per 1 paragraph rule taught in secondary school, and the 6 characters per word average. Adding in usual expansion, and possible error, the size can increase globally by a value of one-third, thus giving the 1100 word estimate (think of it as adding a page and a half).

The Dutch (and therefore, Angelic) wins by default. Funny how anything American is nice and okay individually, but when it turns into America as a nation the intelligence and sanity levels drop drastically.

Incidentally, who gives a crap about what goes in sigs?

Never read Brave New World, so I can't help ya. Perhaps go into the author's viewpoints and writing styles that emulate the mood of the compilation. Maybe attack a theory behind why the two authors chose an alternate future for the theme of the book. And then introduce a light taste on how both talk about a world without choice vs a world that needs no choice.

^My best shot with what little I do know about BNW.

M is saying without idiots theres nothing to keep the evolution process going at a steady pace, instead there would:

a) be random jumps of evolution as freak ocurrences (I think de evolution is possible in this scenario aswell)

b) there would be no evolution at all.

I..think...

Then again, what about reverse darwinism? and is that even existant or just another interpretation of "survival of the fittest"

I had to get up for work at 3am.

It was a 4 hour drive to where we were picking up tires today. (have to do the same drive again tomorrow but meh.)

There are usually 3 guys working on filling up a truck. One of our guys quit this morning after just starting work last week and working for 3 days. So it was just me and the other dude I work with picking up tires.

We had to pick up about 900 today.

Passenger and Truck tires.

I threw them on the truck. The point where I have to lift the tires is above my shoulder.

Usually 1 person is on the truck stacking tires, one throws the tires onto the truck, while the other rolls them from where the companies stack them to where the one throwing them is standing.

So I had to roll and throw today.

I'm hurting in my shoulders. *sigh*

and before anyone says anything about backing the truck up closer (like Luis did on IRC) the tires are stored in a building with a roof lower than our truck.

As I awoke, I found myself in the pile of molten rubble, awakening to the darkened sky. It was not until I stood up that I realized that everything around me was in ruin. The blacknog inn was no longer standing; not even the sign survived the orange blaze that seared. No one was in sight, and I was the only one left standing. No, I hear something...

I look behind me, and there it was, the almighty god of oblivion in my wake. I could not remember its appearance, since I felt myself disintegrating at its presence before seeing its features. Everything seemed dark...but I heard a weak voice calling out to me before I left the world:

"Roeuborne neeuxeta liweu, guidyeure popolhe seojlie ojrowe rouriwne. Beleuse, lurcye."

My grandpa once got into one of his work trucks that the other crew had used the day before and the radio was at max and on a country station, he grabbed the nearest blunt object (the back end of a mini-fire extinguisher) and beat the radio out of the truck.

XD

D:

Why havent you gotten yer tires balanced? tsk tsk angelic.
While yer gettin em balanced you should check up on everything, I bet you're due for an oil change! (be it engine or transmission) brakes uptodate etc etc etc?

Sucks about the mirror...id be hella pissed XD. Hope as it broke nothing scratched the side of the car.

Maybe because I bought them saturday night when all garages where closed, monday I had work and today was the first oppertunity for me to do it? Though it didn't get sorted out in the end so think I'll take half a day off tomorrow and leave work at 1.

Oh, and I check the oil once every so often, my car hardly uses the stuff. Really, my car is fine, it's just that the rims and tyres are new so they need to be adjusted to my car.

Angelic sounds like me, no time for anything, and when I do have time everything is closed or I'm working.

P.S. Angelic, you ride on 40 inch rims? XD

Reading is easy and addictive.

I get lost in books, I have mental images of a movie of the book playing as I read, makes it kinda hard later if I want to re-read or re-watch something and I don't know if it was a movie or read the book.

seriously, it happens to me >.<

@Luis: Fate/Stay Night

not sure if that's what it's from, but that's how it's written.

Yeah, same here. Although

I was kinda whacked to find that Tokiomi summoned Gil, and that Lacelot was berserker. Lancer being another Irish hero was kinda lame. I was so expecting one from more eastern background to appear, just to balance things out, but then feh. Nasu seems to like Norse & Irish mythology

@ luis' sig...You'd kick every none member in sight, donnie would get all the young girls unbanned.
I'd end up never online for long amounts of time.
Basically nobody that uses there forum name and uses irc often is up to the job.
If blitz where to use his forum name then he'd be up to it as M would once often H-OP him.
Also, now much of IRC knows your city :neko:

Luis
January 9th, 2008, 06:25 pm
1. No I wouldnt, but yer free to think what you like.
2. Nah donz is serious when need be.

3. I leave that up for others to decide.

4.Blitz..IDK who he is in here and im too lazy to find out D:..thats assuming I could.

5. All but one person present in IRC knew my city before hand (or could have had they payed attention)

M
January 9th, 2008, 07:07 pm
Blitz is a good man with similar logic to Angelic and I. That's why I often hoped him. Similarly with Porsche and DarkBring, though temperaments have been known to conflict and administrative conflicts occurred. I haven't be on recently, as I have about 18 credit hours of college (also work 40+ hours, making it about 23 credit hours). So I've become a bit of a ghost.

That itself would be enough for most circumstances.
It's just that as you say, your rather busy this term.
