Minovsky Technology

Mega Particle Cannon

The ubiquitous mega particle cannon - variously referred to as the beam cannon, mega beam gun, or mega beam cannon - is the standard armament of the Gundam world's warships and mobile armours. This weapon fires a focused beam of massive, high-velocity mega particles, which cannot be deflected by magnetic fields and tears through any conventional armor material.

To create the mega particles, a cannon-toting vehicle must first gather Minovsky particles from the vehicle's fusion reactor. The Minovsky particles are collected in a device called an energy condenser, where they are compressed in a high-density I-field until they fuse into mega particles. The performance of the mega particle cannon is thus limited by the reactor's ability to produce Minovsky particles.

Though it quickly became the standard armament of space warships, the mega particle cannon's high energy requirements and the sheer bulk of the energy condenser at first precluded its use in mobile suits. Consequently, the Principality of Zeon's MS-05 Zaku I and MS-06 Zaku II were armed with conventional projectile and missile weapons, rather than beam weapons. As a reference, a Musai Class Light Cruiser's on-board generator requires 15 minutes to compress each shot of mega particle cannon. This was not practical for the mobile suits' smaller reactors to compress mega particles by themselves in combat, since it will take unreasonable amount of time to do so.

M-Warhead

Due to the effect of the Minovsky particles of interferring with low frequency electro-magnetic waves, it is used in combat as a form of warhead on rocket propelled missiles. The M-Warhead will spread Minovsky particles in the battle field and prevent all known wireless communication and enemy detection methods except visible light.
The M-Warhead technology was used extensively in the One Year War but after the war, treaty (-ies) where signed to stop the massive disperse of the Minovsky particle because the dense Minovsky particle areas became a major disaster for civilians and to the economy. The M-Warhead became like the Nuclear warhead and was banned from the battle field. However, most warships were still equipped with M-Warheads and the captains can use the warheads whenever they get the permission from higher ranked superiors and Minovsky particle scattering Mobile Suits were still widely used.

Minovsky Craft System

Since it is made up of charged particles, the I-field is unable to permeate through metal, water, the Earth's surface, or other electrically conductive materials and can be shaped simply by trapping it in an electromagnetic field. Thus, at low altitudes it is possible to generate an I-field cushion between the underside of a vessel and the ground, yielding a gravity-countering buoyancy. This principle is used in the creation of the Minovsky Craft System, which allowed a spaceship or heavy ground vehicle to "fly" on Earth. The Principality of Zeon was slow to make use of this principle and the only units equipped with Minovsky Craft systems were the MAX-03 Adzam and the three prototype MAs Apsaras through out the One Year War; however, the Earth Federation was quick to adopt the system on its Pegasus-Class Assault Carriers. This allowed the Pegasus-Class to enter and exit earth's atmosphere and to fly while on the earth.

This system could not be miniaturized to fit on a Mobile suit until UC 0100. The first MS equiping such a device is RX-104FF Penelope from Hathaway's Flash, RX-105 Ξ Gundam which appeared in the same series also equipped the device.

After the period, most high end models such as F-91, V Gundam, V2 Gundam, etc. have installed the device.

My old dog (he's 14-15ish, and he's really small) has been having heart troubles for a while. He coughs all the time and its quite unnerving. Although, he was supposed to die... 2 months ago, according to the vet. He's mostly blind, and now that he can't see who I am,but knows that I feed him, he's all not-biting-me-his-old-age-anymore. I'ma gonna miss him...

At the time, it never occurred to humanity that women could amount to anything other than someone who occupies a house and makes babies for men. It wasn’t until jazz bands started taking on canaries that people started to change their minds. A canary was not just any old woman; it had to be the perfect woman, beautiful from head to toe, dressed in nightgown attire, and perfect teeth. While canaries did need to know a little about music, they were selected by looks rather than talent.

Most likely the first singer in Jazz music was Bessy Smith, singing the blues. She was a part of the menstrual community, and she never really cared what a man ever told her; both black and white. She was the first African American woman to appear in a movie. For the time she was singing she was ahead of the crowd with very direct/ authoritarian type singing.

Another important figure is Lillian Hardin, a pianist of the Kin Oliver’s Band. She is best known for persuading Louis Armstrong to break off of from the King Oliver Band and start his own. At an early age, Lillian studied the piano in classical studies. She attended Fisk University and earned a teaching degree from the Chicago College of Music in 1928. From 1921 to 1924 she was a part of King Oliver’s Band with Armstrong. Later, when the Armstrong band was assembled, she not only played the piano for the band; but also sang, wrote music and arrangements for them; she even led the band in a couple of recordings! Quite an accomplishment for a baby maker.

Enter big bands and the canaries. This is when singing was finally adopted and accepted into jazz music. We cannot enter into this field without talking about Ella Fitzgerald. Commonly called the First Lady of Jazz, she had a musical career of over six decades, and converted many jazz songs into sing-able songs. One of the most interesting things about Ella is the fact that she looked average, and there was nothing special about her voice. Rather, her Scat singing was just as good as any horn player. There was nothing canary like about her. In 1939, Chic Webb died and Ella inherited the Webb's Orchestra, and gave it the new name of Ella Fitzgerald and Her Famous Orchestra. In 1941, Ella broke off from her famous Orchestra and went solo with the help of Norma Granz.

Another Big Band singer that should be noted is Billie Holiday. Called the Bix Beiderbecke of singing, she was the first to completely master Armstrong’s concept of ‘Scat Singing’. She had a hard life, or so says her autobiography. She was raised in Fells Point near Baltimore. Her mother, Sadie Fagan was only thirteen at the time of her birth, and her father was fifteen. The two young parents were not married for long, so she was brought up by her relatives. Frustrated with her life, she dropped out of school and worked as a prostitute with her mother. It wasn’t until much later that she was discovered by John Hammond at the Monette in 1933. She was married several times, all to horrible men. The use of marijuana, heroin, combined with her horrible treatment by her husbands created an impressive sound in her singing that still affects much of the singers out there today.

Another instrumentalist would be Mary Lou Williams, who played the piano, composed, and arranged songs. She could do it all: play in the band, write the music and tell the musicians how the song should sound. It was not uncommon for her songs to be published under another man’s name, and she was accused of plagiarism often.

Enter World War II, and women become more independent in society. Of course if something is happening in society, the outlook in jazz is already in the next step. The Sweet Hearts of Rhythm were an all girl jazz band formed just before the start of the World War, in 1937. The concept behind the band was that “Sweet Girls Play Sweet Music” and they did just that. Even though their audiences were less, the music produced from this band was astonishing. Many felt that the members were too young to play. Still the amount of virtuosity in the song Vi Vigor proves this band’s worth.

The final woman is Toshiko Akiyoshi. She was a Japanese pianist and composer/arranger. She is recognized as the first successful female instrumentalist and received 14 Grammy nominations from it. She was also the first woman to win the “Best Arranger and Composer” award from the magazine Down Beat. That alone speaks for itself.
