IRC is nothing more than any other chatroom client. All a user really needs to know is /server and /join . The chat button up at the top does those two for you. Is it ugly? Yes. Does it lack the annoying extras that you find on other Chat clients, like the freaking nudge thing in MSN and those avatars that react as you type? Most certainly. It can do a hell of a lot more than any other chatroom client, and is expandable. If I wanted to do everything I needed to do on my computer, through IRC triggers.

Oh no, no. When I said "paint chat," I wasn't just making a word up; there actually is a java app called "paint chat." It's a chat room you paint in, and it's one of the most fun things ever. (For artists anyway. X3 )

I could have taken those classes this year, but they wouldn't count :bleh: .

Okay. There are a few reasons I closed the thread. First and foremost is the spam it has accumulated over the past two years. It got to the point where 90 percent of the posts are non-constructive. Several warnings have been put out to the members of the thread; innumerable in count. I do understand that there will be spam in a thread and that the spam is unavoidable, but there are limits to this value; as every moderator and administrator of chat systems know, and know well.

Second, no one was following the rules. There were three distinct rules, which turned to two upon debate, then they added one more making it three again. They were that 1) you have to post a profile and be a member of this forum, 2) absolutely no Polygamy, and 3) the guy must ask the girl. That last one had been removed for obvious reasons. They also added a stipulation for divorces and separation. That rule was that if both members of each party were unhappy for one month of relationship, then they could file for divorce. If one party member has been inactive for 3 or 4 months, then a single party from the relationship can file for divorce. For some odd reason these rules were forgotten, never followed, or used as soft toilette paper.

Third, the main moderators of the Pair Up Thread have vanished. Fob, DiamondSeraph and Kariekh have either stopped coming to this forum, or have taken a blind eye to the thread because of the massive spam and rule breaking.

And it's not like I made these decisions briefly or without consideration. I went through a good 100 or so pages of the thread, and sat on these premises for about a week. I couldn't find any counter logic to change my mind other than forum members, which contributed to these problems, complaining and ranting about my decision. I don't mind being the villain if it makes sense.

If you disprove of my judgment in this case, take away my power. I'm fine by it (you're the boss :) ). I just wanted to make certain that you can see my exact logic as to why I did close the thread. Just because it makes perfect sense to me, doesn't mean that it'll agree with others. If I'm not with the majority after seeing my logic, my abilities as a moderator fail.

I try to strive to keep things clean, following what is logical, and then what the users want; in that order.

If these barriers — expressing yourself without [control] — exist on the internet, then why do we have a formal thread for this form of expression? Using your statement above, you've given justification that the thread does not need to exist at all, as it is a form of controlling your marital status.

To attack your logic of laissez-faire internet: Creating anything that's successful requires some rule to be put down or some type of a limit. Without law, there is chaos; with, there is organization. You cannot salsify everyone, so go for what you feel the limit should be. This is why everything has some form of rule or conventional understanding to how it is enacted.

Also, before you attack me on that last statement, I didn't make the rules for the thread; someone else did. I just enforce them.

Starcraft is above half-life and Halo. Starcraft is 9 years old and still has many, many fans. Hardly anyone plays halflife anymore, or Halo (especially with the new games coming out). Starcraft is a timeless classic that is on par with games like Doom, the Command and Conquer series and Warcraft. Tetris and Mario are a little step above that, they're the games so famous everyone at least has an idea of what it is even if they don't play games ;)
