You can't divide both sides by (a-b) (step 4-5) because if a=b, a-b would be zero, and one can't divide by zero.

although this can trick people arithmaticly, through my knowlege of troubleshooting, I went through the trouble by substituting a as 1. So 1 = 1 where a = b. If a - b = 0, anything divided by 0 is undefined. Since step 4 to 5 shows this possibility, the whole proof is incorrect.

I think this VIP area would work great on a larger forum, where nubs and idiots were more common, but I don't think it's working so well here. 99% of the members who aren't VIPs should be in my opinion. After that, the other one percent wouldn't even be worth excluding, as it wouldn't make the special section much better, and it'd make the whopping two non-VIP members feel left out for no reason.

Erm --- Live distros have the worst of all for graphics card support. Knoppix is the only one that does graphics "okay" (said loosely).

If you really wanna force a graphics card change, you can type one of the following in a console:

nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf
emacs /etc/X11/xorg.conf

If I type that in, it loads up xorg with abuncha options underneath. I've been booting off the ubuntu disc, so I'm not going to restart and boot off of it right now, but is one of those options screen? If so, how do I access that option (like what do I type?)?

I could have been mislead by your writing also, is screen within the Xorg? or do I have to go into something else?

BTW, i have a 1440x900 19'' widescreen, so I think our numbers may be similar.

Use Windows! (Problem destroyed!) ;)

Frankly, I don't feel that Asuka's ready for something outside of live distros; aka operating system on a CD/Stick/Image. Take note that if you are booting to a live CD, all setting's made will not be saved. There is a way to save it, but that has a habit of destroying windows on your hard disk.

And you would edit that file as per a normal text file. Literally go in and erase what you don't want (usually bad), and add what you do want (even worse).


I still say you should start off of Knoppix (http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-info/index-en.html). It has far better support for hardware.

Simple version:
The driver in linux is not like the windows driver, thus some features may or maynot be present.

Hard version:
1) Linux is not windows

Just because hardware can /do/ it doesn't mean it's supported. Linux typically lags behind in drivers and low level materials such as hardware support, yet is at the cutting edge for software and support. Basically, your video card may or may not have a driver in linux. A long time ago, if you had an ATI card, you could only do 2d applications on linux, as ATI used a "closed source" driver system called Catylist. Recently, they've opened their driver source code for linux programmers to make a driver for it.

2) Human error

Have you ever had a slip of hand before? Mis spelled the word weird once? If you do that in your xorg, shit that shouldn't happen could; namely an exploding CRT.

3) Non-generic binary

Drivers on linux usually are built from scratch on your computer, not installed. Meaning, it takes from two things to make an "executible" which installs the driver: A generic installation binary from your graphics card provider, in which holds all information needed for your graphics card; and your linux source code.

When you build a driver — or anything for that matter — it is a unique fingerprint to your system. Meaning, your install is centric to your PC and only your PC. The person that built the driver source for linux did this for optimization. After all, there are modules and other things that could be installed for linux, but is not currently done so. Think of it like a filing cabinet. Is it faster to go through an entire department's documents, or have only the documents that consern you in the cabinet? The Graphics Card Driver Building process is centric to this.

Yeah, the way Zbrush works is that things like....never look smooth. You need to have textures on them, otherwise the little squares are always visible. I bumped it up to 4 million polygons, and it made no difference, hahah. :heh:
My computer can't handle much more than 4 million, so I didn't go any higher. I have no clue on how to texture things, which is why the skull isn't textured. I'll probably never texture it either, as it was only practice and isn't too great. I'll make a monster or something for my next project, and texture that instead though. And thanks for the compliment! :3

Oh, and about it "rendering faster..."
Those pictures aren't renders, they're just screen-caps from inside Zbrush, with the work controls cropped out of the pictures, hahah. Come to think of it, Zbrush does have rendering options, so maybe it could make the skull look smooth even without textures after all...
