Also, we already have broken 1:1 motion control for the Wii. I doubt they'd announced a "fixed" controller if it were still broken. It'll be a lot better, at least.
I don't know it Final Fantasy will be multi-disk for 360, but you know....the last thousand Final Fantasies have been multi-disk games, so I won't cry if the 360 requires you to open your cd tray three times over the course of forty hours to play the game.
/optimism.

Of course, I have a PS3 too, so I'll be getting it for that. I don't really want to play FF on a Microsoft console, for some reason.
And lol at spelling it "disk." You have me doing it now, too.

Neko Koneko

PS3 is the most ridiculous console ever made. Xbox 360 is the hottest (litterally). Leaves the Wii as the best console ever. But hey, new Final Fantasy games just aren't enough to counter the greatness of games like Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Metroid, etc etc...

Nintendo's just the best developer out there, one of the very few developers who still seems to have a real heart for what they're making. Blizzard is another one of those companies. Square used to be like that in their Super Nintendo games with stuff like FF6, Chrono trigger, Seiken Densetsu etc. FF7, 8 and 9 were still good, after that... it went downhill fast with that series.

Square seems to be more about cashing in, rather than making really good mind-blowing games like they used to. In my opinion, FFX was just a dull rip-off that could never get out of the shadow of the previous games. This was mostly due to the horrible main character, Gay-Lord Tidus x_x

HopelessComposer

I don't know about the Wii being the best console ever right now. I do think it has a chance to become that, though, if it keeps on picking up steam.

I like that the PS3 is using BluRay, but that's about it. I like that Microsoft is being very nice to developers, and I like how Live works. I think Nintendo has been and will be (for a long while, anyway) the best developer ever.

So yeah, I'm a Nintendo fan first and foremost. =D

Erm... It's not supposed to fit. It's a rewritten version of the first arc of the Gurren Lagann series (dubed the Gurren arc).
It's not even that. It really has nothing to do with Gurren Lagann's story at all. If you wanted to tie it to Gurren Lagann in any way, I guess you could say that these are explorations of the alternate universes the characters could have been born into, kind of like in the last few episodes. That would be silly and overreaching, though.

Really, they're just for fun, to get everyone hyped up for the movie they're leading up to. They're working on me, lol. =D

Quickly: What's the hack to get windows server 2003 to have longer Event Service Timeouts?

I have a card reader on my laptop running Winserv-2003 (Ricoh brand) and it blips me every time I boot saying the service didn't start every time I boot, yet when I log in, the service is running. It's because the hardware is running slower than the OS, and would like to try to lengthen the service timeout level, but I don't see a setting anywhere in secpol.msc, or in the registry under L-M_Hive or CU-Hive.

I'm kinda perplexed, honestly :\

I want it so that when a programming stops responding, my whole god damned operating system doesn't follow suit.

That's actually the software's fault, not the OS. The way how windows works it that whenever you launch an application it creates a mini virtual computer and isolates it from the rest of the system. If and only if the program makes a system call on the computer does it lock up.

I want Windows to take up less RAM (Vista lol) and to boot faster. My computers keep on getting faster and faster, yet Windows still takes an hour to boot up. I want a fifteen second boot or less!

And by decreasing the amount of boot time you lose the ability to load valuable system resources that makes things run faster after booting. Think running a java app for the first time on a boot and then relaunching the application later; faster, no?

I want Windows to check all my files for me when I move them from folder to folder, so that when I move a hundred files at once, Windows doesn't get to file ten, realize that another file in the second folder shares its name, and then prompts me to choose whether I want to overwrite that file, when I've already left my house, forcing me to choose when I get back, wasting my time. Give me an option to add a "2" to file names have doubles, you piece of shit!

...erm, that already exists, unless you're talking about prequering your copy list and your paste list, inwhichcase NO operating system has implemented that yet.

I want Windows to be more secure!

Windows is as secure as the leading "secure" OS, Linux. Now, people that find exploits and you run into them, that's a different story. You can thank the fact that everyone uses windows, therefore everyone finds the exploits in windows. There's several thousands of exploits in a linux system (most recent being sshd and the huge security hole by not randomizing connection seeds); just no one actually tries to exploit it, because it's not worth the time.

I want Windows to be nicer looking!

:sigh: I will never understand why people want fancy looking stuff over things that are more effective. Not to mention, you can use other desktop shells (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_shell_replacement).

I want Windows to be more customizable!

Buy Vista Ultimate or Server 2003. Secpol.msc, gpedit.msc, and regedit are your friends for customization. You'll just need to take some time on the microsoft website to figure out what everything does.

I want Windows to...uhm....make my breakfast!

Security = what the user makes of it. *nix is only secure if you make it that way; it's not just naturally secure. I can't tell you how many things you have to do just to make a webserver safe from bothacks.

Linux has more options than windows for security, but they both offer similar levels of security; just with different philosophies on how to work it (most notably ipSEC vs iptables). And then there's the massive issue of how many users use OS Z vs OS Y. The OS with the most users will always be the one exploited the most. Linux is by far the easiest, due to the nature that the source code is open and hackers can find the exploits without guessing that much.

...erm, that already exists, unless you're talking about prequering your copy list and your paste list, inwhichcase NO operating system has implemented that yet.
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. I don't think it'd be too hard to implement, considering how ridiculous a programming feat Windows already is.

Well, I kind of figured. I didn't say it was Windows' fault it was virus prone. I was just putting together a wish list. :3

I will never understand why people want fancy looking stuff over things that are more effective. Not to mention, you can use other desktop shells.
I didn't say I wanted crazy buttons and such everywhere. I just want it to look nicer. =D
I'll look at the other shells, and see if I find anything I like.

Buy Vista Ultimate or Server 2003. Secpol.msc, gpedit.msc, and regedit are your friends for customization. You'll just need to take some time on the microsoft website to figure out what everything does.
When I say "customizable," I mean "customizable through easy buttons and menus," not "my car is customizable because I could rebuild the whole thing from scratch if I had the know-how."

You're a C# programmer and an artist. Make a sidebar widget of Vista-tan cooking eggs. It isn't but a 14 line program, and a sprite sheet.
That's an excellent idea, except I'm still running XP. It'd just have to be a stand-alone program. Also, I wouldn't really call myself an artist or a programmer. :heh:

Because the fixes need to be perfect, otherwise we'll have the IE5 patch-that-fixes-patch situation when Windows Update was becoming a strong power.
Or we'll have Vista? lawl.

I was really only kidding. I like my XP, otherwise I'd switch to something else. :heh:
The deeper I go into C#, the more amazed I become at how ridiculously clever Windows really is.
Sorry for making you answer my annoyances! I answered your answers in apology. =D

M
July 17th, 2008, 02:45 am
And there's *no* way to fix that? Not being sarcastic here, but is that really impossible? Windows really can't safeguard itself against faulty software?

That, my friend, is why the task manager exists :D Intervention by the OS is something that the program has to allow as well. Windows has no control over what others do for their programs. After all, if the windows OS could stop problems before they happened, we'd never have viruses. And we'd also solve on of the three core unsolved problems of AI; foresight.

I didn't say I wanted crazy buttons and such everywhere. I just want it to look nicer. =D
I'll look at the other shells, and see if I find anything I like.

Yeah, I don't much like how windows only provides one UI for everything. It's like putting all your eggs in one basket. Just look at how the Fisher-Pric — I mean Luna theme was treated. People grew into it, but it was loathed by many.

When I say "customizable," I mean "customizable through easy buttons and menus," not "my car is customizable because I could rebuild the whole thing from scratch if I had the know-how."

If only that were true with everything... My life as a web developer would be much, much, MUCH easier, or surprisingly harder. For example, IIS vs Apache. IIS is strictly GUI based with many buttons and sub-listing rules. Apache is a series of text files and pseudo SX-INI formatting. I spent about 3 days trying to figure out why I could not get PHP to link up to IIS through the gui. It took a grand total of about 20 steps to get it working properly. What of Apache? Well I simply added three lines of text and it was good to go. 'Round-about 10 minutes, and 20 if you count research time.

That's an excellent idea, except I'm still running XP. It'd just have to be a stand-alone program. Also, I wouldn't really call myself an artist or a programmer. :heh:

That's not windows. That's the .NET architecture which extends windows. Windows itself is a much uglier language than what you're writing in (Oh the forks, the sporks, and the fingering to test if you can mount files into databases).

Mm, but most of the time when a program freezes, it uses up a 100% of my resources, and the task manager doesn't even come up. Or does, half an hour later. I would think Windows would at least be able to tell a program "no, you're not using all the RAM and CPU availabe on this machine," but maybe I'm wrong. I don't know anything about how Windows works, afterall, hahah.

Yeah, I don't much like how windows only provides one UI for everything. It's like putting all your eggs in one basket. Just look at how the Fisher-Pric — I mean Luna theme was treated. People grew into it, but it was loathed by many.
Indeed, that's all I was saying. =D

I can understand that kind of pain perfectly, at least. Whenever I learn a new program, I'm bound to think "I wish I was using something else for this job" at least a few times.

If you make it, I'll make a leekspin desklet.
lol, deal!

Oh, I know. That's what I'm saying. Just looking into what goes on behind the scenes in .NET just to create a simple, blank, Windows form is ridiculous. And a Windows form is only a tiny, basic part of .NET, which is again just a tiny part of Windows. I have no idea how complicated Windows is under the hood, but I know it's complicated enough that I should be amazed at it. =D

Why apologize? They were opinions, and I simply added what I felt was necessary.
Oh no, I was just apologzing because half of my "opinions" were only said jokingly/ventingly. In reality, half of the things I asked for I didn't really need and/or understood why they haven't been implemented.

I lol'd at the part with Nagato and Kyou, though. "'Permission?' -Alright, do it." was one of my favorite parts of Haruhi for some reason. I thought the way they drew Nagato's eye-blink for that was part pretty amazing. XD

Heh, yeah. I think I'll enjoy it once I finish it all the way through. I'm starting 'Welcome to the NHK' right now though. Something tells me it's going to remind me why I like myself while depressing the hell out of me by reminding me why I don't like myself, kind of like Genshiken did. Lol, you're such a dork. You're so not right. Lucky star never needed Haruhi to become popular, Lucky start just referred to every single bit of anime pop culture you can think of. lol. "You're wrong. Lucky Star didn't ride on Haruhi. It was just a parody anime that used Haruhi for half of its jokes." Just because LS could have hypothetically used a bunch of other anime to stand on to reach success, doesn't change the fact that it chose to stand on Haruhi. I'll admit that I am a dork, though. XD

Anyway, I didn't dislike LS because it was a parody anime. I disliked it because I couldn't bring myself to really like any of its characters. But again, it seems to me that they all got better as the series went on, so I'm going to try rewatching it. =D

Neko Koneko

I think that out of all the characters in Lucky Star Miyuki is just too common - she is just the typical clumsy girl with big glasses. Konata is quite unique, she's the most self centered and abusive person I've ever seen in an anime (yes, she upstages Haruhi). The twins... they're just great in combination with Konata. Miyuki just seems out of place in LS.

Edit: Had another fun gym day today. My friend's girlfriend came, and I tried to impress her on the bench machine, because she was all "get it up for me, Jimmy! ;D" and I was like "for you? No problem! ;D " So I lifted too much weight, only managed to lift it twice, and had to have my friend lift the weight off of my on my third rep. Then I got up and was like "hah! See? No problem!"
I started to turn around and walk around the bench, execpt my foot got caught on it instead; I twisted around awkwardly, and fell flat on my back. "You guys can leave. I'm just going to stay down here.....forever."

Everyone around me was cracking up. I would have been embarrassed, but I have no shame, so I was crying laughing too. Super fun times. XD

There is no offical dub for Kanon. There's that fan-made piece of shit that ADV made, but that group isn't worthy of being called "official".

I'm buying a new computer either tomorrow or Sunday. Any recommendations? I haven't bought a computer in forever.
And how's Vista doing? Does it still suck, or have they patched it up?
I'll probably just end up buying the cheapest computer with a decent amount of RAM (4 gig), or the computer with the nicest looking tower. Because I'm a compu-noob.

I'm going to dual-boot with Linux I think, too. Just so I can pretend that I know something about computers.
I can't wait! My computer is like five years old now. Time for a shiny upgrade, even if I don't really need it.
Basically, my harddrive is clicking really loud, and it's taking longer and long to load folders and such, so I'm assuming it's going to die soon. Instead of replacing the harddrive in my ancient computer, I figure I may as well just buy a whole new one instead...

M
August 2nd, 2008, 02:28 am
4 gigs of ram is of no use if you get a 32-bit processor, it'll only see 3 gigs as it's a limitation of the processor.

And I've yet to have any real problems with vista other than degradation of particular hardware. Though do keep in mind that I don't do much on the machine: write programs, browse the web, and serve localhost. I've done a typical desktop image without problems using quite a bit of third party software without experiencing a chink (other than office 2007 crashing with everything, but I'm pretty sure that's an install issue and not an OS issue).

Ah, good tip; that's something I definitely wasn't aware of. Do they even ship 4-gig machines with 32 bit processors? That'd be pretty shady. I'll look out for that now, though, so thanks. =D

And I've yet to have any real problems with vista other than degradation of particular hardware.
Degradation? What do you mean? Simply not working? Or progressively working less? Or just acting weird?

I've done a typical desktop image without problems using quite a bit of third party software without experiencing a chink (other than office 2007 crashing with everything, but I'm pretty sure that's an install issue and not an OS issue).
Typical desktop image? Do you mean you've used Vista like any casual user would?

I was pretty certain that Vista was much better than the horror stories made it out to be. Thanks again, M. :3

Degradation = legacy devices like floppy disk controllers, certain old sound cards, printers, et cetera. Basically the hardware was deemed "too old" to be supported, such as my 10 year old soundblaster card (expected that), and my all-in-one HP printer from three years ago (didn't quite expect that).

and a typical image hosts:

Office2007
Adobe Acrobat
IE7pro
Microsoft Silverlight
Firefox 3.0 w/ a few addons
Adobe Flash
Filezilla FTP
VLC media player
Apple QuickTime
Real Realplayer
ImgBurn
Daemontools
McAffe AntiVirus & AntiSpyware_module
7zip
PowerShell
Altiris Client
JRE1.6
.NET framework 3.5
Launchy
PuTTY

That's considered our most basic image we provide with university laptops. There's also some more in depth images (such as our computer science one; which is simply a work of art that took me around 4 days to get done).

Don't get me wrong, I've run into a few problems with vista, but I managed to hack most of them out with some secpol, gpedit, and regedit commands. I should also say that these things listed are hosted in enterprise and up vista systems. Anything below has to deal with regedit hell.

Also, why do I live in the only stupid-ass state in the country that requires you to take a fucking 20 hour driving course to get your motorcycle license!? If I lived five minutes down the road, I'd be in the next state, and I'd just have to take a written test. Twenty questions. And I'd be done. But no! I had to sign up for retarded classes that are taking place two months from now. Hurray!
At least maybe I'll be a slightly better driver because of them. Maybe they'll save my life some day. Maybe I shouldn't be complaining about them. lol. =D
I'd better be driving my scooter like a god damned super-bike-race-driver-guy by the end of this, or I'm going to be pissed.

That's right. Throw stuff. That's the mature thing to do as a teacher. Frighten them with strength rather than outwitting them. :\
